Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone was interested in planning or wanted to throw ideas out for this years corgi picnic.  It's been awhile since Carter has seen anyone of you guys and I know he misses his corgi buddies =D

~~Please send some love to Christina.  She planned last years picnic and is unable to continue to plan due to health issues.~~

Here are some of the ideas that have been thrown out there

- Freeport (Freeport Doggie Website) is where we had it last year.  We could do the same thing last time and do like a potluck type thing.  I don't know if Mike & Lisa wanted to plan it again.

Wasn't sure if you guys wanted to go to the same place.  I found a dog park in Hoffman Estates (Bo's Dog Park).  I've never been there but the park looks nice.  I'm not sure if they have day passes though and if they would let us have the picnic there.

Just trying to throw ideas out there. Let me know what you guys think or if you want to plan it =D

Hope to see everyone and their corgi's soon!

I saw that they said small training treats were allowed on the Naperville Dog Park web site, but they still cause problems.  One guy at my local dog park put treats in his pockets and did not even give any to his dog, but it was a problem because my dog followed him everywhere.  There were a few other taller dogs sniffing his pocket as well.  I was suspicious that he had food and he admitted it.  Our park has a no food policy.  He emptied his pockets and put the stash in his car and my dog started playing with the other dogs. I bring my dogs to play with other dogs not beg for treats from strangers.

I only bring treats into the dog park when there are no other dogs there.  It gives us a chance to work on recall.

I am beginning to think I agree with Sammie's idea that we should skip the potluck and have everyone bring their own lunch if they want.  (I still would like the potluck idea to be the goal for the future.)  I really didn't think this whole thing would be so difficult to plan, but there are very few people giving their input.  Plus... The woman I talked to on the phone today said it would be $50 to rent the pavilion. I don't know that we want to rent a pavilion for $50.  What if only 5 of us show up?  Then we are each chipping in $10.  If we don't plan the potluck, then we don't have to rent the pavilion.  We can sit and eat a picnic together and if we are lucky the pavilion will be empty and we can use it anyway.

Then next year we might be more organized.  We will know if we want to return to Whalon Dog Park and we will have a better idea how many people will actually show up at a meet-up.  Also, this year we could talk to the people who come and find out what they would like for the next one.  Survey the crowd.

I noticed that there have been 336 views on this discussion group, but less than 10 people actually giving input.

Maybe we will be surprised and get a good sized crowd.

Agree...it's better this way.

I'm sorry to say I have probably "viewed" about 300 times myself!  I am so anxious to see if anything has been firmed up.  I have tried to drum something up around here where I live (right by des moines) but have never gotten ANY response at all!

I have also inquired at "nebraska corgis" but nothing moving there either. =(

I understand.  I went to the Wisconsin Corgi Picnic in July because I could find nothing in my area.

Wisconsin MyCorgi people were VERY organized, but they have been doing this for a few years.  They had a potluck.  They rented tables and chairs and provided all the paper goods, pop, bottled water, and sandwich stuff.  They had prizes for shortest tail, longest ears, etc, etc.  There was also a raffle. Plus, they made over $130 for Corgi Aid.

So...Tell me, what do you think about the food? Potluck? Picnic?

We need to make some decisions here so we can post the event.

PICNIC...and we can always share the food.
ok, so I went to the wisconsin corgi picnic page to see if I could get an idea of how this is all done.  it looked like the place they were at you could picnic/potluck right there with the dogs?  or is that not the case?  a potluck would be GREAT, a picnic would be FINE, but meeting other corgis and some of you will be PRICELESS!  I'm open to whatever is decided, as long as it includes CORGIS!!!!!!

Yes. They set up a couple ez-ups in the small dog park and they had maybe 6 or 8 tables with chairs.  We let the dogs play for a while and ate a late lunch right in the dog park.  Of course, during lunch there was a lot of begging going on.  (There were CORGIs there!) I heard my boy tried to steal the organizers cookie right out of her hand, but he dropped it when she told him to.

They told me they had to get special permission to have all that there.  They had to go to some board meeting or something a couple months before to get it approved.  This was the first time they were at that park.  Other people were allowed to enter the park if they wished.  I only remember 3 non-corgi people that came in while we were there.

Can I please say... Thank you everyone that is helping plan.  I've been so caught up this week with my brother's wedding this Saturday.  You guys are so AWESOME!

do we need to get the permit before hand? I was looking and is there not someone there to sell permit?  I can do it online, but it takes a couple of weeks to get back, so I would like to get it done as soon as possible.

We needed at permit for an event or to reserve and rent a pavilion.  I think we are clear if we just picnic.

The dogs must have a day pass to get into the park. I am not sure where they do that.  That is why I asked Renata if she saw a drop box for that.  A couple parks I have gone to have day passes and there is a form and an envelope that you drop in a metal box with your fee.  That is how we did it at the Wisconsin Corgi Picnic.  No one was there checking, but they wanted you to have your rabies info in case someone got bit.  I am not sure if the Napperville Park has an office there on the grounds or what.

sorry, I meant the day pass, not permit.  I tried reading thru all the info, but I didn't see anything about drop box. It told you where online you could send info and they send back the pass. otherwise there was different places you can go, but seeing as how I don't know where anything is, I will probably go ahead and do it online.
