Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone was interested in planning or wanted to throw ideas out for this years corgi picnic.  It's been awhile since Carter has seen anyone of you guys and I know he misses his corgi buddies =D

~~Please send some love to Christina.  She planned last years picnic and is unable to continue to plan due to health issues.~~

Here are some of the ideas that have been thrown out there

- Freeport (Freeport Doggie Website) is where we had it last year.  We could do the same thing last time and do like a potluck type thing.  I don't know if Mike & Lisa wanted to plan it again.

Wasn't sure if you guys wanted to go to the same place.  I found a dog park in Hoffman Estates (Bo's Dog Park).  I've never been there but the park looks nice.  I'm not sure if they have day passes though and if they would let us have the picnic there.

Just trying to throw ideas out there. Let me know what you guys think or if you want to plan it =D

Hope to see everyone and their corgi's soon!

any new news?  anyone?

no news here...I had a busy day :(
sorry didnt make it to the park in naperville. got stuck in traffic and took too long to get home from oswego to look at a boarding facility.

I posted as a reply elsewhere but I need a quick catch-up. I'm out of state right now so I couldn't keep close tabs on this chat.

So I have a few questions:

-What are our current park options?

-What are our current date options?

Also I said it before but I'll reiterate for fun lol, I would personally really like a potluck I think it would just be more together and actually feel like a group meeting. Also - I think we could make a lot of this easier if everyone agrees to bring helpful things like whatever chairs they have whatever tables they have, I know I at least have one or two simple popup tables. And to make things easier we could probably just use the tables to keep the potluck food from our little gluttondogs XD and just picnic on blankets to eat it. That way nobody is really buying anything extra. You're just making something and bringing whatever outdoorsy furniture you happen to have. Kind of like July 4th style.

When a date and location are finalized we can have slots for people to choose if they want to bring something. Slots for soda/drink, a few slots for random food dishes (a salad, a potato salad, macaroni salad, casseroles, any bitesize app things etc) really simple stuff. I mean thats how my family usually do it, everyone kind of brings their own chairs and if they have extras them too and it always works out well!

So far we are looking at Sept 11th. There are a few parks in mind still. Whalen park in Naperville and possibly the one in Freeport. For us to do a pot luck it will get kinda pricey as we would most likely need to rent out a pavilion. We are thinking of just doing a bring your own sack lunch kind of meet up and have it more planned out for next year.

Is this info correct? Id hate to lead her in the wrong direction of our discussions.

I think Whalon is out.

Did you read the reply they sent to my E-mial about how to get a 1 day pass?  That makes it difficult to get everyone in the park.  A lot of people will not bother to mail that in 2 weeks in advance and others will show up that day and not understand why they can't enter the dog park.  Plus, time is ticking away and that means everyone would have to find out about our plans and mail in the registration in the next 2 weeks.

Ya that is going to take too much time. What other parks were in the mix of this conversation? I am now confused on all of the replys i think they are overlapping somewhere. :(

I have searched the internet several times to find dog parks.  I found a couple that say they have a drop box to pay your fees, but they are all FAR for Chicago people.  One was only an hour from me! :)

Others have odd restrictions or have no day pass options when I called.  Many have no shade and one said that there was some barbed wire on one side of the fence.  I will not take my dogs near barbed wire.

I am tired of wasting hours looking online.  I would think someone in the 90 + members of the Illinois Corgis should know of a park near them that is appropriate.  Doesn't anybody take their dog to the local dog parks?

Thanks for the recap. there was just so much discussion and so many different things being said I got so lost!

I was hoping we would have all the details for the Corgi Picnic together so we could get the information out. Event info should be posted at least a month before the day of the event. We don't even have a place yet.  So, should we push back our goal date in order to get things settled?

Pick the place, then pick the date.  We may be looking at October...

If you do Oct. Izzie and I wont be able to make it. I will be in Ireland for my honeymoon for the whole month with the wedding being on Oct 8th and not being back in the states til the 25th. :( If I can find some time in my insane schedule right now I will do some of the work but I dont want to commit since I am in the middle of 5 million things 2 months before our wedding. :(

I just don't see it happening on Sept 11 unless we find a dog park in the next couple of days.  That is already less than a month away and we can't find a place to have it.  We need a place and the rest will be easy.

We could push the picnic back to Sept 25 if you stay relatively sober at your bachelorette party.
