Janet, I've read thru some of the posts and I have to say that it is aggravating to read some of those whose dogs are destructive, barkers, etc etc etc...I'm on my second corgi now. My first Sophie (passed away at 14 last yr.), a female was more aloof and Milo my one year old is a love bug. I'd always heard that males are more "by your side" - I've found that to be true. I also believe that most behavioral problems start with owners not managing issues and having their head in the sand regarding how much time they have to train and 'entertain' their corgis. I can say that because my first corgi was my first ever dog and I had issues to deal with but they were my issues - I learned by trial and error and I hung in there and Sophie was the light of my life. Over time, I figured it out and now that I know better, I do better. They are the best breed and you won't find more devoted owners for the most part. I fondly refer to us as a subculture. We all, as you can see, have opinions till the cows come home. You sound like a responsible dog owner - and I'll venture to say that a day won't go by that your corgi won't put a smile on your face. If you want to see some of the happiest corgis on earth, go to John Wolff's page. Amazing pictures to boot. I would recommend, however, that you go with a very experienced corgi breeder the first time out - one that's serious and has taken care to breed out any issues. Most any dog will have idiosyncrasies but they bring such joy to your life. Corgis are VERY smart and you must be one step ahead of them - seriously. I get very tired of hearing owners bemoan issues - if you're on top of things, your corgi will be delightful and you won't regret having one.
