Does anyone have the problem of constantly having to clean their dog's butt? I'm not talking diarrhea, but stools that are soft enough that on the way out catch on her hair. I have trimmed a little around her behind, but don't want to make her look like a baboon.

Holly is free of worms, so that is not the problem. Until recently she was fed a mixture of Wellness dry (water added) and a couple spoonfuls of Wellness canned beef dog food---all grain free. I have switched her to Nutri Source Grain Free and Hound Gatos 98% Beef. She also gets a couple of carrots a day. No matter what the food; I usually have to clean her up.

The vet said the problem is the Corgi's long back and her not having a tail that she can't really hump up. Any suggestions or is this common? I have also heard of giving some pumpkin puree. I'm wondering about totally going raw, but know the fat on beef bones will give her the runs. Maybe chicken?

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I feed Rosie and Rocky Nutri Source grain free chicken. They love it and do very well on it. Rosie will have a loose stool once in a while esp when she decides she needs to poop 4 times on a 30 minute walk. Have yet to figure that one out but she does. I think she is marking since she is a big marker. I don't mix anything with their food. I'd get rid of the canned and stick to the dry. Dry food doesn't stick to their teeth. Be careful of fatty treats and too many treats. Be sure to watch her weight. I've cut back on Rosie since we went to the grain free. She gains easily in spite of her high energy level. I've fed Nutri Source for about 4 years and went to the grain free this past winter when I was in GA. The place I get their food down there ordered the grain free for me by mistake so when we got there that was all they had. We did a pretty abrupt switch on the dogs since I was almost out of their regular flavor. They were fine, tummy wise, and loved it. I noticed a decrease in poops so just decided to stay with it. My daughter switched her dog who has lymphoma to the grain free bison and he is doing great as are her other two, esp the elderly lab mix with much less achy joints. It's a good brand, made in Minnesota.

Thanks for the reply. Holly is on grain free and I'm thinking of having her on a Raw diet or at least 1/2 being a raw mix.

Sometimes my corgis have messy butts.  I consider that a complication of having fluffs.  I do not plan on changing their diet.  When it seems to be happening more often, it means I need to trim them up with the grooming scissors.  The rest of the time I just use baby wipes and its no big deal.  Good luck!

Sounds like you have more of a mess with fluffs that I have. It's not so bad in the summer when I can take her outside to clean up. I am moving Holly to chicken and also trying a probiotic. When she was little I did it and it helped a lot. I am also going to switch her over to raw food.

Cody eats Hills Science Diet R/D (yep, she has to lose a bit of weight). The food is great and she has nice solid stools. When she was a puppy and had the "stuck-on" poo (pre Hill's food find), a friend who has 5 corgis recommended using cholesterol. It's a hair product. You can put some on the fur in the area...it helps keep the area clean and it conditions the fur. Hope this helps!

Thanks! So far so good on transitioning to Bravo. Holly is at ideal weight so no worries there.
