Hi Friends,

I was just looking at my blog when Chloe was having a terrible itchy time, & I can't believe it was a year ago! Now I'm just starting to realize that perhaps she has seasonal allergies. The weather here a few weeks ago was HOT! She has this funky rash on her private area and under her armpit. I'll attach pic of her front armpit (her genital area is the same color like the armpit; it wasn't that way previous to this rash) She swims 2-3 days a week at the beach. I'm wondering if maybe her being damp caused an issue. Then I start thinking she might have a thyroid issue. Trouble with the internet is that she could have all sorts of issues! LOL Any ideas? I'm going to change her kibble because it contains potato. It's ltd ingredient diet. Going to find no grain, less starch. Thinking of trying out a holistic vet. Anyone go to a holistic vet? Oh, also, Chloe has a difficult time with the Comfortis. I noticed she vomited last time, but I'm unsure of how long the pill was in her system. Sometimes she has no difficulty with it. SO on that note, she may have a flea issue that I can't seem to catch. Combing and searching has not brought out any fleas.flea & it's driving her nuts :)

I took Chloe to the vet a few weeks ago because her right ear was nasty looking. Dirty looking & smelly. I found out she had a yeast infection, ear infection & also poor thing her eye needed drops (I think my other little dog got her with his nail). Her private area was yeasty and they said she needed to lose about 5 lbs. The folds around her vulva made it difficult for the urine not to stay saturated on her skin. She's 34 lbs they said 30 lbs would be better. They gave her ear drops, ear cleanser, eye drops, pills for yeast infection and medicated shampoo. She's a lot better. If you have a dog that loves to swim like Chloe does, make sure to really shampoo well after the ocean or lake and try to dry the dog off as much as possible.

FWIW: A dog that comes to my work has started wearing a cooling vest (along with Benadryl) to ease allergy discomfort.

Looks like yeast to me---it reminds me of the red yeast that can grow on dogs' paws and what causes tear stains.

But I'd still say bring her to the vet, especially if it's itching her.

The instructions for giving trifexis (an oral flea med) say to give with a meal, to avoid vomiting...I'd imagine it's the same with comfortis.

Yep. It is in capsule form.  Hershi eats it if it is hidden in her food. It is actually the human kind, since it is made from better stuff than the dog kind (and cheaper)

Emily & Scout: Hi, thanks! I was giving Chloe alaskan salmon oil, from Amazon. It went rancid because the bottle was so big & I couldn't use it up in time. May I ask what kind of fish oil you give your dogs? Is it capsules that you open?? Thanks!

I suggest this all the time (I know it is probably redundant) but something that might help the symptoms at least is fish oil.  My family dog, Heshi had bad itchy skin then we started fish oil as recomended by the vet, and she is awesome now.  Softer coat, even.

Hope you can find a solution to the problem, but thought I'd share the quick fix now
