See with her its only when she is hyper that we have a problem, which i kind of figure is a normal puppy thing but i will try to do what you guys suggested, at this point it cant hurt. Before it wasn't so much a retaliation thing as much as just a game to her, it kind became like a game a of thumb wars you might have played as a kid. Which one of us will clamp down first. But i never held it til she would whine either so i may have been inadvertently encouraging her to think it was a game.

I also made her a kennel of sorts to sleep in, which frees up her other one (which she hates unless its in a car) so i may start using that for time out sessions too.

Yea i might have to try doing that, i did try it a little bit but i wasn't waiting for her to yelp. When i did try she would instantly try biting me again as soon as i let go, was kind of like she thought it was a game so i stopped. The other problem we have been having is our lab/mountain dog (he is around 16 or 18 weeks i think) likes to play with her and as i try to teach her not to bite hard he is teaching her to bite harder lol.

She has the light switch too, lots and lots of play and then she will flop over with out warning and sleep for a couple hours. I also don't think my breeder interacted with the puppies a whole lot besides petting and feeding. But i will give your idea a try and maybe it will help, my hands are pretty cut up and i sure wouldn't mind being able to play with her with out bleeding lol.

Your pup is much younger, though, right? so she's still developing and very much in an active puppy stage.  When we saw Machete at 5 weeks, he was basically run around for 30 minutes, and immediate light switch crash mode. All the puppies seemed to power down at once, then fire back up again.  He's got a more level schedule now, was more active at 10 weeks, and now he is still puppy rambunctious but also can amuse himself and have quiet moments.  I would try to curb the nipping and biting, though, as soon as possible so it doesn't get out of hand.  Our breeder was stopping the pups from nipping and biting people or things they're not supposed to as early as 5 weeks or before, with gentle pressure on their muzzles until their teeth dig into their little mouths, like 5 seconds or less, and then they yelp and are showered with immediate praise for being good dogs.  Might help with your pup.

That's cool, i kind of think if i had gotten a male he might have ended up like that but sadly a male was out of the question. Azura is still a good and fun dog, just not a lap dog, plus we have other dogs to keep her distracted and i think if we didn't she might have been a little more affectionate towards us. Like i said her only real issue is the play biting, she starts out semi gentle and then the more hyper she gets the harder she bites. But she is only 9 weeks old today so i cant hold it against her too much, she doesn't know any better yet.

Congrats though, he sounds like he will be an awesome dog.

he has pretty much the mildest temperament of any dog ever.  he's a very sweet boy, and he's good with the cats, kids, other dogs.  he's very laid back.  and he starts waiting for aragorn to come home about the same time every day, and gets so happy when he finally does see him, it's like he won the puppy lottery.

Looks like he turned out to be a pretty cute and affectionate pup. How is his temperament so far? I picked up Azura last Friday and she is pretty good except for play biting. I can see Machete is alot more willing to show you affection though; Azura only shows it when we are at my girlfriends house lol then she wont let me be out of eye sight.

Good luck with him :)

Be careful what you wish for.  Sometimes you get it.  Looks like you did.

Your puppy has such a sweet face - I was reading all of the postings you did of the waiting for your puppy and photos of the litter - what a beautiful looking group of siblings.  Looking forward to hearing how things work out with Machete!
