Paco got very sick and did not survive. He died on Valentine's Day. He is greatly missed. We are trying to learn to live without our beautiful little guy.
Hi!! I read your post on rescued corgis, it sounds like she just needs some time, love, patience and belly rubs! :) It took a little while for Lilly to feel like she really belonged! She has problems like yours, she was so affraid of other dogs, people, etc! And now look at her! She is a corgi extrordinaire!! Twinkie is our newest addition, she was a "forclosure dog". It only took her 1 day, and she wanted to rule the roost! They are all different, and would all have a different story to tell if they could talk. I hope it works out, and if not please give her to a corgi rescue.
When we have added a new dog, I always worried about "offending" the other (s), but , from experience, I think the additions have made our other dogs better. Good luck. Your concerns mean you are on the right path. It doesn't always work out, but all you can do is try. How lucky both your furkids are!
Deirdre, just read your post on Rescused Corgis. Don't panic. It sounds like you have come a long way in just a few days with this little girl. We got our resuce Fern about a year ago. She had been a breeding dog in a puppy mill. She had to make the transition to a home with three other Corgis!. She too was and still is in many ways very timid. She is having to make a number of transitions all at once. A new place...someone elses territory... and learning new things. I think you will find she will be very willing to please. You will have to monitor the jealousy of your other dog. That is completely normal, but does require some intervention. The new girls needs to learn that she has a place and at the same time Paco is going to learn to adjust to sharing you. It can be done! It does take time. Not just a few days, but mayber a few weeks or even a few months. Fern is still startled by sudden movements and loud noises and will retreat, but she does "recover and join back fairly quick. She still will isolate herself now and then..comfort zone I think, but she will play with the other dogs runing like crazy outside, but still more reserved inside. She has become defensive of me when she is in my lap and will assert herself when she doesn't want to share. Overall she has been an amazing addition to our family and was worth al the extra effort she needed..
