He didn't seem to have any aggression towards humans, only other dogs. Luffy gets the same way around food with other dogs and I also had to leave right away. Toys and food should be common sense and never be brought into dog parks because dogs WILL protect what they see as high a value food/toy, it's in their nature.  What I'm trying to say is that it wasn't you or Billy's fault.

What Denny said would be a good idea! It sucked you and Billy had to go so soon, he still had so much play left in him.  Don't blame yourself or Billy for what happened today because it was actually encouraged by the girl that didn't know any better. Billy was also just acting out in his natural way and i'm sure it can be curved with some training.

Don't be so hard on the guy. Maybe next time we can have something with just our corgi. Some where without toys and other dogs. :)

Brooke,  It sounds like he is dog-bonded rather than people-bonded, since you said he doesn't smile for you.  Does he sit in your lap and things like that?  How old was he when you got him.  Maybe the breeder didn't socialize them properly.  I hope you 2 are able to have quality time together.  Good luck, Lois

How's Billy doing?  Lola is being a handful lately because she keeps eating grass and then gets sick late in the night... It's gross...

Yeah benadryl is used for allergies (another skin condition). Our chihuahua was diagnosed with allergies but even to test for it they did a skin scraping to make sure it wasn't mange. It is definitely a good idea to switch vets, finding a good one can save you time and money in the future by making sure not to misdiagnose him. I think that you could've been spared some stress if they had gotten it right in the first place!

Not necessarily on meds his whole life there is a chance that he could get mange again in the future.  The difference between the two meds is that sarcoptic is really contagious to animals and people but is easier to treat.  Demodectic is not contagious but is more difficult to treat as in it takes longer to heal and can recur.  So yeah each has its own positives and negatives.  In your case it is probably a good thing that you do have demodectic since you have been taking him to work (which you can still do) and now you don't have to worry about the other dogs getting it.  What a lot of people forget is that the dog has mange long before it starts to lose its hair because that happens from constant scratching and the mites that live on the skin.  Also since you explained the problem to your vet they should've considered it by possibly taking skin scrapings and if they turned up negative to take some more a week later if the itching persisted, or at least have kept the idea of mange in mind.

Well each type of mange has its ups and downs and demodectic is the less contagious kind so that is a plus!  I will let you know that demodectic doesn't "fully" go away so it might resurface down the line, but you now know what you have to do to make him feel better!  Mange makes them very itchy too so he probably isn't affectionate quite yet cuz your loving touch makes him itch.  So when it is gone he will realize how nice a good petting really is!  I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Darn... what kind of mange does he have, sarcoptic or demodectic?  I think that his behavior should be ok.  Even if it doesn't seem so at first, if you're patient with him I think he'll do ok.  Our evil chihuahua is starting to do better with his "I hate everyone" attitude and he is four. (He was abused before we got him.)  I am a little more worried about the pills.  But you have been such a good owner so far that he will probably be just fine.  Give him a little time and your little guy will turn out to be an outstanding lil' man!

Hey, how is Billy doing?  My Lola was sick today so I was wondering if he was doing any better.

How is everything going?  Any better?  I totally understand how frustrating it can be....trust me!  My husband just bought me an Australian Shepherd puppy out of the blue, which I love her to death, but she is so high energy, and is- well, a puppy--I wouldn't trade her for anything, but I definitely wouldn't have gotten a puppy if I had wanted another dog.  Some days I am so frustrated with her antics, and I usually end up just laughing because I remember "that this too shall pass".  I try to just enjoy the puppiness, and try to finagle my family into cleaning up her never-ending messes.  It sucks though that you are missing out on the fun parts of puppyhood because he feels so crappy.  :-(

Is it possible for you to send me some videos of him- just in his everyday environment doing things that are bothering you?  Maybe we can try to read his body language and emotions, and help you figure out what he's thinking.  I don't want you to think I'm crazy, but I can read dogs pretty well--

Hi Brooke,

How old is Billy?  Puppies are definately alot of work and if he isn't feeling well that doesn't help him either.  :(   What is he doing, that is bothering you?
