I was talking about a 2007 issue of "Corgi Clan Tales", the newsletter of the Columbia Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, CPWCC. I gather Timberside had just acquired Cracklin' Rosie (Riley's grandma?); they have a page for Frankie in there too.
You have a gorgeous pair of dogs. Don't let them get overweight; it's hard to tell from a photo, but Riley looks big enough.
Take lots and lots of photos in the snow together, you can play with the black-and-white patterns (you have some where the trees are throwing shadows on the snow). Next winter, they won't be different sizes, and Maggie won't be black-and-white. I really love some of your close-ups of Riley. Those two together are a dog photographer's dream.
I figured out what it is: Riley seems to be keeping more black on his face than many red-headed tris (if you just see Al's face, he looks like a red). Gwynnie kept just a little black on her forehead. Maybe Riley has the blackheaded tri allele from Haley's D'Artagnan (Dante, Gwynnie's dad), who is a blackheaded tri. That allele is supposedly recessive to the regular tri allele, but maybe a little of it penetrates and they keep more black on the head. Just guessing.
We happen to have a Feb. 2007 issue of "Corgi Clan Tales", newsletter of CPWCC, 'cause Carrie Hale bought some space in it featuring Gwynnie and her littermate Panda (breeders sort of buy ads, it looks like). Timberside has 2 pages in it too, featuring Westbourne's Cracklin Rosie; isn't she Riley's mom or grandma?
Thanks for the basketball! A Nike Jr., our favorite! Just the right size. Glad to see you're taking lots of photos of that beautifully matched pair with the opposite half-collars. They're gorgeous dogs. Do it now, because I'd expect a lot of red to replace the black on Maggie's face, and she won't look like a little skunk forever. Although Riley's kept a lot of black on the face, right? If you saw only Al's face, you'd think he's a red.
You can use this to trace genealogies. It's how I found that Riley, Maggie, Gwynnie & Al are related through Vinne, Cracklin Rosie, and Haley's d'Artagnan "Dante"
I see that I did put in a friend request to Carrie Hale, but haven't heard back. I have to send her a copy of the Jan/Feb Washington Trails magazine (Al won the Offbeat Outdoors division in the 2010 photo contest... thanks to MyCorgi ballot-box stuffers). She's not breeding right now, but I believe she's VP of CPWCC. Here's something else I stumbled upon:
http://www.pembrokecorgi.org/2006/06BOW.htm Kinion Woodbine Cary Grant ("Mr. Grant") is Al's daddy, I've hugged him, he's almost 35-40 lbs! a huge fit beautiful red Pem. This is a pretty big dog-show deal. BOW-wow.
Al & Gwynn say "aarffwrrf" to the younger cousins. Those two are a spectacular matched pair.
Make sure Maggie gets enough individual attention. Although Al learned a LOT of stuff just by imitating Gwynnie, he missed other things because he didn't get the one-on-one time.
This shows Carrie showing Am/Can Ch. Haley's d'Artagnan ("Dante") in 2002.
Dante sired Westbourne Cracklin' Rosie, Westbourne Risky Business ("Panda"), Gwynnie, and Al's dam (Gwynnie's littermate).
Gwynnie and Cracklin' Rosie are full- or half-sisters.
Cracklin' Rosie whelped Timberside Vine Maple ("Vinnie"), Folly, and Birdie.
So Al & Vinnie are cousins, sharing Dante as grandsire and Gwynnie as aunt.
Al is Riley & Maggie 2nd? 3rd? cousin.
Gwynnie is Riley & Maggie's great aunt.
They want to visit the family, play in the snow, and wreck your house.
Gwynnie had 2 littermates, Annie Elizabeth Rose and Panda. I don't know their kennel names, but unless Joyce Gilpin sold them to Westbourne, they're not Westbourne Cracklin' Rosie or Westbourne Risky Business (also "Panda", but I think Gwynnie's littermate had an even wider white collar):
Yes, Carrie Hale's kennel is Haley's out of Bellevue, Wash.
Gwynnie's sire is Haley's Dante (blackfaced tri). Her dam (spacing the name, possibly Dana) belongs to Joyce Gilpin, now in Monroe WA but they were in Redmond when we got Gwynnie.
Al's sire is Haley's Cary Grant (a big red). Al's dam is Gwynnie's littermate (spacing the name; this bitch belongs to Cheri Helsdon, but she had a family emergency and Carrie took over that litter). So Haley's Dante is Al's grandsire. Al was born 8/30/2006; he's almost 4.5 y.o. now. Gwynnie is 7.5.
I may have met Vinnie at Carrie's place. The Timberside website http://www.timbersidecorgis.com/5.html "Special Wins" button has 4-5 pics of Carrie Hale showing/handling Vinnie in 2007-2008, so Al & Vinnie are about the same age and could be related.
So Vinnie is uncle to Riley and Maggie?
Where did you get 'Haley's Juris Allegro "Al"'?
I might have Al's papers in the file at home, but the dogs' birth certificates/papers might be in our safe deposit box (really), and I have no idea what Al's kennel name is. It was our daughter's turn to name the puppy, and she's a musician, hence "Allegro".
I saw some canine pedigrees at Dr. Jan Coates' DM lecture here for CPWCC. I gasped (I'm used to human pedigrees). They looked like a drunken electrician's wiring diagrams. :)
Let's see, I don't know who Timberside is, or Vinnie.
Al is Gwynnie's nephew, so they're a good matched pair. They want to go down and play in the snow and help Riley and Maggie tear up the house.
The four of them together -- a reign of terror.
I sniff a new puppy... with a skunk stripe like Riley's, and a half-collar like Riley's, but on the opposite side? How did THIS happen?! We'll be expecting video.
Yes. Although the photo in the snow was beautiful, Riley is a distinctive dog with that white/black stripe, and the close-up really shows him off nicely. Thanks.
Sorry! I got you mixed-up with someone closer to home, Wenatchee WA, she has 2 dogs, Laverne and Shirley. Her dogs look almost as cool as Riley... that big white half-ruff is hard to beat. see any resemblance?
You posted a nice pic of Riley on "Bestof MyCorgi", but he's a gorgeous dog and deserves one of your fine close-ups.
I really liked the ones of your son on the floor imitating the dog.

One more thing, the OFA website: http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1311858#animal
