It has been such fun having a puppy again! Watson has exceeded our expectations so far. He is incredibly sweet and friendly and occasionally turns into a tornado! He is learning our routine and how to walk on the leash. My vet was very impressed with how great he is.
I decided to try a Cardigan this time partly out of curiosity and partly because I developed a relationship with a Cardigan breeder/handler at a large dog show I go to annually by us. I really liked her dogs and was on a waiting list for a pup but their bitch only had one puppy and they wanted to keep it. My husband (and I) wanted a blue Merle at first because they are so cool looking. However, it became clear that I would probably have to wait a year or more to get one as they are much in demand. I really liked the black and whites and tris and eventually my husband did too. I also was very afraid that because Izzy is not terribly friendly with other dogs that if she had too much time as an only that it would be harder to introduce a pup.
One of the top breeders I talked to referred me to several others because all hers were spoken for. Just when I was beginning to lose hope we would have a puppy before fall, we got lucky and she called to say one of her buyers backed out and she had a pup with the kind of temperament I was looking for! Enter Watson! So far he is great although Izzy isn't thrilled. I will keep you posted on our progress and hopefully add more photos soon. My computer is on the frizz right now...ugh. It's not dull here right now :)

Watson sounds extremely cool. I hope your Izzy decides the pup is acceptable, even if only "more or less." It takes some time to accept an interloper when you've been the center of attention for a good long while!

I'm so happy that Watson is giving you so much pleasure.  Izzy may come around but the important thing is that they at least get along and not fight, doesn't matter if they become joined at the hip.  I've always heard Cardis described as "excuse me, have we been properly introduced?"  Where Pems are "oooooo somebodynewtoplaywithme!!!!"

I have yet to name any of my corgis...they were all 4-5 years old when they came to us and I just didn't want to confuse them more by changing their call names.  Our last Irish wolfhound's registered name was by the breeder, she wanted to make sure her pups had good Celtic names...Windchaser Stilgar.  My FIL came up with his call name...Duffy.  If I had known the personality he was going to grow into I would have named him Muldoon from Car 54 Where Are You.  If were to give Katie her call name now...it would be Bug.

We had some names in mind but decided we really liked his name. The registered name and his call name were chosen by the breeder, it was her Mystery litter (Sherlock,Watson etc).

So glad things just fell into place for you. We also found the breeder we got our dogs from based on a recommendation from another breeder.

It will be interesting to see how he matures. I've heard Cardis tend to be a bit more reserved and thoughtful than Pems, but of course individual personalities can vary so much.

And I just love the way his call name fits with his registered name! Did he come with his name, or did you name him?
