I've seen a lot of topics on this site that are not the happiest (that's life I guess). Just in case any corgi owners needed a nice pick me up, here is a video of Napolean doing some tricks ^ ^ Remember to stay pawsitive and be happy with the corgi you have! We also hope to inspire many other corgi owners to teach their corgis tricks as well! Trick training (through positive reinforcement) builds a stronger bond plus it's really fun :D

yay! I'm glad  to see so many other corgi owners get involved in trick training :D Thank you everyone for the compliments ^ ^

@Anny all the advice given is on point! Just remember if you would rather not have him be over excited, just take a moment to reward calm behavior. Just sit him in from of you and don't ask for anything. Just reward when he is calm and waiting :) You should probably also train him to take the treat gently as I'm sure he's very eager to grab the treat right away (napolean was like that before). Good luck!

@susan Thank you! Yes, trick training is great and corgis are always eager to please! Really? I'll have to look into that :) Good luck to you guys!

What a great video!  Napoleon is so cute and so smart - great tricks.  I want to try that blowing bubbles one... lol, so cute!

I agree with gusto that trick training is a great thing to do with your corgi and that it improves the bond between you.  They love learning new tricks.  And it doesn't take all that much time to teach them.  There is even a titleing program through "Do More With Your Dog".    Jeli is working on her Trick Dog Champion Title - just need to get someone to video it.   If you haven't got it with Napoleon, you should go for it.  He is awesome - great job!!!

It is good to read a positive post. I watched the video of Napoleon learning to "wait" when he was a puppy. Very impressive and SO cute. As Anna noted, random reinforcement is a great teaching tool. I used to use it in my work to manage human behavior and I discovered it also works well with pets. Intermittent reinforcement is the strongest reinforcement which is why people keep buying lottery tickets thinking "Maybe the next one will be it." You have a really cute, very smart pup!

@Anna, Thank you! I tried that awhile ago with him and he got better. Usually he's pouncing on me if I don't give him the treat right away. Him and my mini dachshund are my first dogs ever so I'm pretty new to this! I just taught him how to "hug" me today so I'm excited haha.

@ Anny, if your Corgi learns quickly and is that eager (which are good things) try delaying the treat to later, after he's done the second trick, giving only verbal praise for the first trick.  Gradually delay the food reward more, say once every 3 tricks, then vary which trick gets rewarded, so he cannot anticipate when the food reward comes.  You'll find out through trial and error what works to get the best performance from your particular dog.

Not only is Napolean handsome as the day is long he is multi-talented too!

Wow Napolean is awesome!! I wish my corgi could do that!  He knows a few tricks but is very spastic about it. He does everything really fast like "yeah yeah now give me my treat." lol

VERY well done! I love the way he keeps looking at you. "Did I earn my treat yet? How about now?" Great job!

Very nice!  Time to think up a plot and get him into movies :-)  Loved the blanket trick.

Wow! That is amazing! Once he's picked up the trash, can he be persuaded to run the vacuum cleaner? ;-)
