Wynn went back for his test today and his bladder stone is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still has to have special food forever but that's OK. Wynn (AKA Mr. Chubo) has lost 5 pounds!!!!

Wynn had to go to the vet for blood in his urine. Looking online  made things very scary for what it might be BUT it ended up being a single large(nickel size) bladder stone. He now has a special canned food for a month to see if it will dissolve and if not he will need surgery. Vet didn't seem overly concerned and said surgery is not much worse than him being spayed...

Anyone have any experience with this?

Hope the food takes care of it as it does in many cases.

hope the food helps clear it up..get better soon Wynn!!

Wynn pucked up his food the 1st AM. I called the vet and we put a bit of his old dry food in for a few days.Too dramatic of a change I believe. The ingredients sound horrible but I'm sure lots of it is medication. He is doing better now.

Poor guy! Hoping for a good outcome.

Thanks Beth....Wynn is a trooper and we really don't notice a difference in him except he might be a bit crabbier....

I am trying to find a dry dog food low in PH that isn't science diet for when this is done. Does anyone have any info on this? Or a home made food that is complete????

Jane....we had a cat, Bubba, who was on the large side even when kept on a diet.  Large cats can be prone to bowel obstructions and he had them.  It was costing me a fortune to take him in all the time to be cleaned out so the vet showed me how to do.  Bless that cat, he never fought me, never ever scratched me (at any time in his life), never held a grudge...he lived quite happily with this condition for 6 years.  One day I noticed he was acting odd and it wasn't his normal blockage problem, immediately called the vet and took him.  Poor boy was in kidney failure...he never exhibited any signs.  Well he did..which was pee all over the dinning room rug but we never saw him do it..  We thought it was Katie..she had some problems adjusting when we first got her and it took us a while to learn her very subtle signals.  So we had to let him go at the age of 18.  We also made many apologies to poor Katie and got a new rug.

Thanks everyone. My vet is checking into alternative food and I will email him some homemade recipes that I found for this problem also to see what he thinks. Lots to think about and look at for now. I have over 3 weeks to find a food and then that's if his stone is gone...otherwise will have to see.

first off i am so sorry to hear Wynn is sick :( i may not have experience with dogs and bladder stones but i do with my cat. first thing to remember is to keep flushing the bladder with water and with that i mean with canned food only! add even more water to the canned food (i add about 3 tablespoons) and make sure they add cranberries the food as well. higher on list means theres more of it.  also cranberry pills help tremendously. u can give ones that are made for pets but i just get the human bottles as they are way cheaper, are the same, and last way longer. put on in a pill pocket twice a day.

i worked for a vets office for two years, the vet was very old fashioned. i brought my cat in and this is what he told me to do and its worked to keep them at bay for 3 years now

Thanks Rebecca, I will start the cranberry pills tonight and the extra water. I already had been adding water to his old dry food as I never think my corgis get enough to drink...even if it's always available.

Wynn is actually drinking his crushed cranberry pill in waterl! I tried it last night and he lapped it right up.

You might try him on very dilute cranberry juice.  He might be surprised and be aware of what is good for him since he has given you this early sign.  Smart boy!
