for the past week i decided to include baden in with my workout routine as i feel bad when i go to the gym for cardio days and he stays behind. so i figured why not do both? get him his exercise and mine done together.

how far do u run with your corgi? do u bring water? what does he run with (collar, harness?) is an hour too long? we take breaks but i run between a sprint/jog so its pretty fast pace but he keeps up very well until the end. then he lags a little lol

but look at this face! hes so happy when we go out running!

That sounds like a pretty intense workout for a little stumpers.  You probably want to start him out slow and build up his conditioning to your routine.   I don't know how far you go in an hour if your jogging/sprinting but probably covering quite a bit of ground.  I walk a mile in about 15 minutes, so I'm guessing you go 10 miles or more?   That seems like a lot to me if you are jogging, but I really don't know.  The farthest I walk with Jeli is probably about 4 miles, but I'm sure many take their dogs for longer walks.  Runs and sprints I'm not sure about.  It probably also depends on the season, weather, where you live, etc.

Keep an eye on his pads and nails to make sure they can handle the new routine.

I would definitely take water, but be careful he doesn't drink too much and then you go off running a sprint again.  He can't tell you if he has a stich in his side.

Between a collar or a harness, I would probably pick a non-restrictive harness for running but I would check frequently to make sure it wasn't rubbing him anywhere and making chafing sores.  Maybe you can't take him at a little bit slower pace, then go out by yourself for the harder cardio.  Or maybe I'm wimping out...lol.  Have fun!

lol thank you for your input :) im not sure if its ten miles lol maybe 5? im not exactly sure but i do stop when seem him winded and walk slowly, let hm catch his breath to sniff some bushes so he can enjoy it as well. i have been checking his pads and they seem to be handling the pavement well and his nails are trimmed short to be sure he isnt scrapping.

i do use a light weight harness as i think running with a collar would bother his neck and just in case he dosnt see me stop or switch directions and i accidentally strain his neck. i didnt think about him getting stitches, ill defiantly bring some water to insure that dosnt happen. it hasnt been too hot here in northern CA. its been about 55 out the past week so its been perfect running weather.

it is pretty funny how i get looks when they see him running with me, i think others kinda laugh when they see his short stumps keeping up with me haha

Ein goes on trail rides with me and the horse. She can do several hours without a problem (and energy at the end!). I've started the couch 2 5k program and she runs with me on that (the run zombies version is fun). Water break at the end seems to be sufficient, if I try to break early she just ignores it. Keeping me on task! Do you have a place he could run with you off-leash? We go to a prarie or trail running and Ein loves it.

a zombie run? lol that sounds pretty fun to do. i have heard of them but never been on one. i wish baden and i could go to a place where he could run off leash as i prefer it and i know he does as well but the problem is where i live i have to travel about an hour to go anywhere for trails or to hike. over the summer thats what i spent most of my time doing so i think hes build up a tolerance for long active days. if i didnt live so far away from a trail i would be on it every day but for now jogging through the neighborhood has been nice

I'll keep an eye on this thread, I also work out and I'd love to take Sun for runs! I'm worried she's still too young though (8 months) and I don't want to exhaust her...

running her at 8months should be fine but since she is still young maybe keep it at 2 miles at the most. with her still growing. after calculating today me and baden run 5miles every other day so he can have a break day in between. i do give him rest times so he can still sniff or mark since hes a boy lol Mondays i do a straight run (light jog) and at the half hour mark i do a brisk walk. on Wednesdays and Fridays i walk for a few minuets and then sprint for 30 seconds. those are badens favorite and i try to make a game out of it too so he can enjoy his workout as much as i do.

so thats something u could try, sprinting and then walking for a few minuets or just a light jog to get her used to it. if u need to give her motivation u can always bring a toy :)
