Wynn has been to the vet several times the last few weeks but he continues to have blood in his urine. Next week he will have an ultrasound done to see if he has a mass or more stones that can't be seen on X-rays! Hoping it's not cancer!!!!!

Does anyone have experience with their dog having cancer? Evidently she would start him on some med but I forgot the name!

Thanks Beth, I'm trying to stay positive but I think Wynn can pick up on my stress. He did finally move to the other couch but probably so I don't interrupt his being on the other one. I hope the vet calls me Monday so that I can pick up his pills from the pharmacy.

He is enjoying his new toys...and the one I bought Teddy!

Was Sparty on human cancer meds???? I hope my vet calls me on Monday....of coarse I will be calling her 1st thing!!!!

No our only choices were more amputations and chemo. I chose not to put him through more. These are tough decisions to make. So sorry.

I figure I will try the meds but if they make him sick I will stop them. Someplace I heard that animals tolerate the meds better...but not sure where!

I'm so very sorry to hear this. All positive energy heading towards Wynn. My heart goes out to you. /hugs

Thank-you susan!!!!!

Jane...I have heard the same thing and I know several comments were from folks who treated their dogs for cancer.

Bev...we choose to only treat Max with prednisone to hopefully shrink the tumors.  He was 13.5 years old and the DM was progressing rapidly.  We just could not put him thru chemo.  Very difficult decisions to make.

My Sparty had bone cancer so tumors were not an issue. I have also heard that chemo for dogs is not as difficult in most situations as it is for humans.

Thanks Bev and Linda!  I called the vet yesterday but had to work late so i didn't hear from her. I am wondering how expensive the treatment will be if I have to get the cancer drugs through the human pharmacy! I have also looked up alternative treatments for cancer in dogs and may try them as they are very simple. I hope to know more today. Wynn will also have to be on antibiotics forever and they are extremely expensive also...unless they can give me a cheaper alternative that will work. Right now they alone are $80.00 for 2 weeks! Hope to find out more today!!!!

Jane....do you have Walgreen's in your area?  Check with them, they use to have a discount card for those without insurance and yes, you can use it for an animal.  One of my cats had to have human eye drops for glaucoma and I had the discount card for her.  I asked them if they understood it was for a cat, they said yes.  It did save me some money, not a huge amount but any discount is a good thing.  Also using their (and other pharmacy's) mail order program also saves you money but that's on a 90 day supply at one time.

When I spoke with the vet this AM she said that she was going to make up a special compound for Wynn that would include Peroxicam(the cancer drug that would slow the progress ) a long term antibiotic plus maybe more...she will then put me in touch with the pharmacy who is making it and I should be able to get it directly from them so I am assuming it may be a bit cheaper???? Keeping my fingers crossed that it helps!
