4 years in waiting, FINALLY THE TIME IS HERE!

I don't know if this page is still active but if anyone remembers me I am the girl asking around about corgi 4 years ago and went on hiatus. Guess What though? After 4 years of waiting and wanting I am finally getting my own corgi!! He will arrive in June at 3 months old, and I am going through research after research.  He will be fully vaccinated by then aside the rabies shot but I will take him to the vet anyway, I have several questions as a new parent:

1. Should I take him to office immediately or wait until he is a bit older and trained?

2. Should I take him to office with me everyday? or just sparingly? I fear if I take him everyday he will have separation anxiety. If I leave him at home all the time he may not be as attached.

3. How many times a day should I feed him? some resource says 3, some says 2 is ok.

4. What brand should I get? I wanted to get orijen but its too expensive for me (import tax is too high in this country)

5. At that age can he already walk on the streets? again  I find conflicting information

There are many many many more questions but a lot of them I will align with the vet. Any advice would be great!

Thanks in advance. btw here is his pic:

@Anna Morelli

Wow I am glad and pleasantly surprised someone still remembers me haha. Its a bit sad to see this website die down, but I will see if I can try reviving it. I will be receiving him this saturday at a little over 2 months so I may not be taking him outside too much YET. Main goal is to get him socialized with every type of people objects and sounds. seems easier in theory than real life so finger crossed!!

Congratulations!  I do remember your post 4 years ago as I was impressed by your commitment to your future pup. Happy to hear your dream is coming true. I don't check this site often any more as, sadly, it has lost most activity.  Beth answered most of your questions.  I am not a fan of pee-pads, they are expensive and condition the dog to keep using them, so I agree that newspaper is a better choice when you leave him at home alone but, personally I would not use anything in the office.  He needs to learn that you NEVER relieve yourself there.  I would wait to bring him with me until he is on a reliable schedule and not having any "accidents" when you are at home, since YOU also have to learn his needs and his signals.   If, when at work, you can take him out briefly mid-morning, at lunch time and mid-afternoon, this should be enough around 3 1/2 to 4 months of age.  If this is not possible (taking him out at the office) I would not bring him to work until older.  As for the brand of food, you can see what is available to you and check the brand with Dog Food Advisor, a reliable independent source of information:   https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/

Look for a food with 3 stars or better, depending on what you can reasonably afford. Best wishes on your new adventure!

There is an Official MyCorgi.com Facebook Page.  It isn't quite the same as how nice this forum was in the past, but there are 7,600 members of the group and a lot of corgi knowledge to tap into there.  There are also a ton of other facebook corgi groups and also a ton of awesome corgi Instagramers!

I think your schedule sounds good and pee pads for the office is ok but I would recommend newspapers at home.  Some dogs really, really like pee pads to the point that it can be hard to convince them to go outside at all.  Papers absorb the puddle but are still wet enough that puppy doesn't really like it and tries to hold it, in my experience.   We have had (when the site was more active) reports of puppies that would hold it til they got back in to their pee pads, but really not many or any reports of that problem with papers.  And of course when you are home, no papers on the floor and confinement + supervision.

Leashing is ok for short periods, especially with a puppy.

Hi Beth! Thanks for the reply! :) ok so here is the plan:

IF I BRING HIM TO OFFICE

Leash him to me/my table while I am in office and put pee pads behind me. and then his crate under my table where he can sleeps. and bring some chew toys, foods, blankets......

U think this is a good idea? I do know that leasing a dog is not the best.

IF I LEAVE HIM HOME:

go home to feed him lunch

play with him a while

leave him kong with frozen peanut butter to play with

give him access to his potty place (pee pads)

Do I miss anything?

Thanks!

Congratulations!   He is adorable.  I am so happy for you!

If you want him to be comfortable at the office and comfortable staying home, you should accustom him to both while he is still a puppy.   Leave him home some days but bring him in others, assuming you have a safe space to keep him while he isn't housebroken.   If you must wait til he's house broken to bring him to work, at least bring him in as you can for short visits.

At that age I would feed 3 times per day for another couple months or so and then switch to twice.

Usually they can walk around the streets about 10 days after their second set of shots but ask your vet.  Every area is a little different.

I can't recommend a food;  there are so many opinions and not a large amount of research to back up any of them.  We feed Eukanuba and some people think we are horrible for it because it's a "bad" food and others think we are crazy and would never spend that much to feed a dog.  lol

Post lots of pictures!
