Happy B day. Do you have your corgi yet? If you do I hopehe has brougt lots of lafter to you and your husband. I also like your drawings. very cute. I like drawing corgis to.:)
I think of it the opposite. An adult dog is much easier than a puppy. If they come when you call them, don't tear apart the house and can walk on leash... What else do you want in the begining? Older dogs can be trained no problem and I think the aquisition of either a puppy or rescue is similar. An older dog will settle any potential health issues that puppy may develop.
Once the dog is in your home, they love you as much as puppy would... Good luck!
If you are not experienced with puppies, consider an adult dog. Already house trained and has a "what you see is what you get" personality. Our Camber is almost 7 and we are approaching our 1 year anv. with her. Seems like we had her for years!
I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I WILL BE HAVING ANOTHER LITTER IN THE SPRING IF YOUR INTERESTED. I ALSO HAVE A VERY GOOD FRIEND THAT RAISES SOME OUTSTANDING SHOW DOGS. MOST OF THEM ARE RED AND WHITE. I'VE SOLD SOME DOGS FOR HER BEFORE. ALOT OF PEOPLE KNOW WHO SHE IS. IF YOUR INTERESTED, LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO COME TO CALIFORNIA.
USING A SPRY BOTTLE OR COLLAR ON DOGS IS HUMANE. I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA MUCH, TO ME IT SEEMS RATHER CRUEL, ALTHOUGH I'M NOT SURE WHY, I USE A SQUIRT BOTTLE FILLED WITH WATER FOR THE CATS. NOW,,,,,,,,,IF THAT DOESN'T TELL YOU WHO RULES THE ROOST!!!
I THINK MAYBE I SHOULD GET MY PRIORITIES STRAIGHT. HAHAHA!!!!
SOME CORGI'S CAN BE PROBLEM BARKERS. MY MALE AND FEMALE ONLY BARK WHEN COMPANY COMES, OR ANOTHER DOG RUNS DOWN THE STREET. IT'S NOT A CONSTANT YAPPING, THAT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!
MY 8 MONTH OLD PUPPY ON THE OTHER HAND, HE WANTS THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD TO HEAR WHAT HE HAS TO SAY. I'VE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH OTHER DOGS AND TRAINING THEM NOT TO TALK. I MUST ADMIT,,, THAT I'VE HAD TO HAVE SOME HELP FROM MY HERDING DOG TRAINER ON SOME METHODS THAT DON'T REQUIRE A BARK, OR SHOCK COLLAR. I WON'T USE THOSE.
I THINK THE BEST ADVICE SHE GAVE ME WAS TO HAVE MORE PATIENCE!!!!! THIS FOR ME WITH A BARKING DOG IS DIFFICULT, THE SOUND IS LIKE SOMEONE RUNNING THEIR NAILS DOWN A CHALCK BOARD.
ANYWAY, YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL ON YOUNG PUPPIES ON HOW HARD YOU SCOLD THEM BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT THEM FEARING YOU. A COUPLE OF METHODS THAT SEEM TO BE WORKING FOR MY PUPPY, ARE USING THE WORD "QUIET". NEVER YELL AT THE DOGS BECAUSE THEN THEY LEARD TO RESPOND ONLY TO THAT TONE IN YOUR VOICE.
THE OTHER METHOD IS TO TIE THEM OR CHAIN THEM TO THE FENCE FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME TO TEACH THEM PATIENCE. NEVER LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED IN CASE THEY PANIC.
I DO ALLOW ALL MY DOGS TO DO THE CORGI GROWL TALKING, JUST NOT THE BARKING. MY STUD DOG IS ALWAYS TALKING, I GUESS HE HAS ALOT TO SAY.
SORRY FOR THE LONG ANSWER, I WASN'T SURE HOW TO GIVE A SHORT VERSION SINCE I'M HAVING BARKING ISSUES. IT CAN BE TAUGHT, JUST TAKES ALOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE. HOPE THIS HELPS.
Totally agree with RAYLYN WATKINS--Corgis really are the best dog out there, really! We've had labs, heelers, neither compares to the corgi:) Good Luck:)
HI, WELCOME TO THE SITE. I BREED AND RAISE CORGI'S. I REALLY HOPE YOU FIND ONE SOON. I'VE OWNED ALOT OF DIFFERENT DOGS, BUT AFTER HAVING CORGI'S, I'LL NEVER HAVE ANY OTHER BREED. THEY ARE THE BEST DOGS. THEY HAVE SUCH WONDERFUL PERSONALITIES. SOME OF THEM CAN BE TALKERS, SO IF THAT'S SOMETHING YOU DON'T LIKE, YOU MAY WANT TO RECONSIDER. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH.
No......not really. At first I thought she got it, but she didn't seem to want to always go in the box. She picked up how to go outside and not have accidents inside as soon as we took her outside to go to the bathroom.
Oh....and I think when we got our little girl we spent $350 on supplies, but I went a little over the top and we tried to litter train her. Tried being the optimal word!
I'm a wife and I work and go to school full-time, but having a Corgi has changed our lives in the best way ever! I was really skeptical about getting a purebred, but corgis are smart, fun, and eager to please. Initially it took a lot of work and we work on training every day, but she does so well! I do recommend (when you get one) taking your dog to the dog park (ideally separated with small and large dogs) so that they become socialized. I also take mine to Petsmart, Petco, Walgreens, and pretty much any store I can to keep her socialized. Plus people just love Corgis! :-)
