Zed was adopted from a local animal shelter. Apparently he was picked up as a stray and had been ad the shelter for over a month when my wife found him online. 3 days later we went to look at him and he immediately stayed close to my wife...we took him home that day. He's been a great dog.

What a sad story. She has such a sweet face. It sounds like you have come so far. My Fern is MO Puppy Mill Rescue, but I don't believe life was as unkind to her as it had been for Daisy. Skeezix seems to be looking at Daisy so compassionately.
Thanks, Kristen. I'm glad your Fern is with you. I wish that there were more things that could be done to shut down each and every puppy mill in the world. If people who bought puppies at pet stores first knew about puppy mills such as the ones where Fern and Daisy were prisoners they might start demanding true verification of their dog's "roots."
Thanks so much for giving her a safe home! Rescue dogs rock!
Dusty Rose was adopted from Concerned People for Animals out of Camarillo CA. The story was that she and her brother were found wandering the streets of Camarillo and someone picked them up. The personwho got her was diagnosed with cancer and couln't care for her any longer. Don't know any more of her background but she is purebred. Sure would like to know more. She was cared for by a family with other dogs, cats and kids. It wasn't a good enviroment for her. She now resides with just my husband and me and seems happy.

Jane, My Autumn came from Camarillo!
Hardy came from the Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club.

I had e-mailed a member asking if she knew of a reputable breeder and I explained to her that I wouldn't mind taking in an older dog during our e-mail conversation. At the time I didn't know she was associated with the corgi club. She told me that they had just taken in a rescue who was in foster care and told me to fill out an application if I was interested. Later that day she sent me a photo and it was love at first sight. The process went very fast, and we quickly had Hardy.

We know little about his past and can only guess at what his life was like. He was breeding stock from what we understand, and he was just not useful anymore when his mate stopped producing litters. He's believed to be between 4-5 years old.

We thought that we would have a rough time with him since we believe that he had never been inside before. He is so well behaved and so smart. We couldn't have asked for a better little guy!
I adopted my Cody from the Leon County Humane Society in Tallahassee, FL. He had been in a puppy mill as a stud here in North Florida. My good friend is a foster mom to lots of rescued dogs and she used to show Corgis. She took on Cody and did an excellent job of getting him ready for people and other dogs. His ears were crusty and full of sores. His body fir was matted and filthy and the white was so yellow. His one eye was infected and they thought he would be blind in it. It's fine though! His feet were all torn up from the cages. Cody is smart, funny, adorable, strong willed, teachable, cuddly and so much more. He is still learning to play. At first he did not know how to run. Luckily, his foster mom still had one of her older corgies who taught him how to run, jump and play. We are still working on the "ball". He prefers to fetch his Hedgie which also squeaks, but is the size of a ball. My little neighbor girl (3 yrs old) has taught Cody how to jump through her hula hoop. He is a regular Houdini. I tried to keep him behind a gate--1st one 3 feet, next one 4 ft and the next one was a 5 ft. He got past them all without ever knocking one down! So he was crated at first. He is now only crated when I travel with him. He loves car rides. I bought a seat belt for him and he just loves it. When we go on long trips, though, i have to crate because he gets all tangled in his belt. Yesterday was the first day I had him by himself without crate for an entire day while at work. I came home to find him in his blanky and all his toys gathered at the back door waiting for me. He is starting to talk to me now and only barks at things if they surprise him. He is a very quiet dog otherwise. I take him to the same groomer I used for my other dog and she has gotten his white fur so white, he is beautiful. He has one floppy ear that only flops when he is rested, comfortable and at ease. I love him. I can't wait to get home to him each day after work.
Great story--so glad Cody found you
Our most recent Rescue is Poppit. She is a one year old blind Corgi. She came from 7-Bells Sanctuary in Missouri. They specialize in senior and special needs adoptions. Fern is definately the result of poor breeding by some one who was more interested in the bottom line rather than blood line. Thank goodness for groups like 7-bells. She has juvinile cataracts that she has had since birth. She also has genetically small eyes. She has small ears for a Corgi and she looks a bit like a sheltie in the face. Poppit only weighed about 16 lbs when she came home. She is shy and had no training whatsoever, but she is making huge strides. We have had her about a month and she is settling in. We had her evaluated for cataract surgery, but there is a good chance that her retinas are damaged and the surgery would not be successful. We have opted not to go the surgery route. To see her move thorugh the house and out in the yard you wouldn't realize that she can't see. She doesn't know she is any different than anyone else. She is a sweet girl!
I adopted Toby from a rescue organization in Sulphur, Louisiana. (4 paws society) The owner apparently loves corgi and will find them across Louisiana and rescue them. I'm so greatful she rescued Toby. I was told he came from an animal shelter around the Baton Rouge area and didn't have much time left. He's a great dog and I wonder why anyone would want to get rid of him.
We got Mikey from Meadow Lake Humane Society in Saskatchewan, Canada (we live one province over, in Alberta). We needed to find a smaller type dog as the neighborhood we were moving into only allowed maximum height 18" at the shoulder.
We found him on Petfinder.com and immediately filled out the application for him-we were able to see four pictures of him and three videos-and immediately fell in love.

They boarded him for a month for us, as were moving and couldn't come get him right away. Most shelters won't even hold a dog for a day for you-we were very impressed!

Mikey (formerly Petey) was born in their shelter with Parvo. The vet took him home to nurse him back to health and he lived most of his two years in the shelter, being adopted and returned 3-4 times (we weren't clear on if it was three or four times). He was returned for wandering (in an unfenced yard), chasing deer (in an unfenced yard) and getting attacked by the home's other dog. (He was afraid of dog's larger then him but we've been doing playdates, and now at the dog park he'll play with anyone!).

He's an absolute doll (yes, he chews things up, but we need to be cleaner!!!), loves kids (I mean LOVES kids), plays well with all the dogs he meets (leaves them if they are aggressive or mean), plays off leash, and is at the top of his obediance class already. We are hoping to do some agility and other similar activities with him to keep him busy and happy.
We rescued our dog valentine who was at the time 7, she is now 8 from the vet her old "parents" said she was vicious and just wanted her to be put to sleep :( we decided to take her off their hands and saved her life, so to say she isn't vicious at all, she has alot of issues from the way she was treated by her old owners, but we love her anyways and plan to give her the best life we can for the rest of her life, she is part of our family issues and all. she now is a spoiled rotten part of the family, I cannot imagine having a dog for 7 years and just dropping her at the vet saying oh here you go put her to sleep we do not want her anymore:( makes me so sad for valentine . I forgot to mention the vet wouldn't put her to sleep and was trying to find someone to take her, she was there for 3 months with no home, just a kennel
