Adopted my baby Penny about a month ago from a local rescue group. She had terrible separation anxiety when we first got her but she's been doing very well so far. :)

Good luck with Daisy. I'm so glad you were there for her.

I'm so glad that Daisy ended up with someone who would be so dedicated to her and her special needs. Poor baby. I can't believe they spayed her in heat. Oh my! You are a wonderful person and Daisy is a lucky girl. Keep up with the updates. All of the stories here are inspirational.

Chapter 1 The Story of Daisy

I never knew how stressful rescuing a Corgi could be. . .but the wait was well worth it. . . .

On Jan 8th, my friend Nancy sent me a text saying that her hairdresser had a friend who was at the Pasadena Animal Shelter and she saw a Corgi there.

Nancy and I have talked for some time about how much I love my Corgis and how I wish I could get another one. She suggested that if I really wanted another Corgi that I should go and see what I can do to adopt her.

I went down on Saturday, Jan 9th, morning to see how I could adopt her. At the time they told me that someone else had already applied for her adoption and that I could wait until noon, or call them back. It was only 9:00 a.m. so I decided to call back. I asked them how a Corgi ended up in their shelter? She told me that Daisy was brought in by her owners because she bit their child. At first I thought to myself that's absurd and then I thought if Daisy did bite, maybe she was truly provoked. Anyway I said well that still wouldn't change my mind about adopting her.

I waited until noon and called the Shelter back. The girl at the counter told me the people came and adopted her. I felt relieved that she wouldn't have to spend another day there but was sad that I didn't get to take her home.

Then on Monday morning, Jan 11th, I got an e-mail from the Pasadena Animal Shelter saying that Daisy was up for adoption??? I called them and told them that I was there on Saturday and they told me she had been adopted. They proceeded to tell me that the people brought her back because Daisy was panic stricken with their dog they already had. Oh I said what kind of dog was it? They said it was a very large dog. I said DUH! She was probably scared out of her wits. I thought they had to bring their pets in to see how they interacted. She said the people mentioned they had a dog but didn't mention what kind or size. They didn't want to hear my complaints. They said that if I was still interested, I could come back and re-apply. I told them I would be there Saturday, Jan 16th hoping I could take her home right away.

Then on Thursday, Jan 14th, I got an e-mail saying that Daisy was taken to Long Beach by a woman named Jane who does Corgi Rescues.

I contacted Jane this time and explained that I was interested in rescuing Daisy and explained what happened at the Animal Shelter. Jane asked me to come to Long Beach and bring any dogs that Daisy will be interacting with. I got the Pupsters ready, gave them a bath the day before and then when the day came, Sat Jan 16th, we all went down to Long Beach to meet Daisy.

They met with Daisy one at a time and then all together. She had no problems meeting her own kind, I think because they were all the same height she wasn't intimidated by them. Besides I always say, animals know their rank and status in a pack, it's people who make them nervous.

Jane was supposed to bring Daisy last weekend, Jan 23rd but it turned out she thought Daisy had a Urinary Tract Infection. She took her to her Vet. The Vet ran tests on her and it turned out Daisy was in heat. Those horrible people LIED about this sweet little girl. They told the Shelter that she was spayed. Jane was so upset with these people. I was upset with these people. I think between Nancy, Jane and I, we were sending our thoughts to these people and they weren't very nice.

On Thurs, Jan 21st, Jane took Daisy in to have her surgery. She called me to say Daisy came through with flying colors and that she was doing fine. Daisy has to go back in 10 days to get the stitches out so she won't be bringing her until Feb 13th. I laughed to myself. I told Nancy that maybe I'll get her in time for my birthday (March). . . .LOL

Finally. . .Feb 13th Daisy came home to enjoy a life of love, fun and companionship. She won't have to worry about anything anymore. . .she will be loved by all. . . .So the story goes. . . .

Chapter 2 The Story of Daisy (Cont.)

Daisy comes home to enjoy her new life with her new brother and sisters. Then on Sat, Feb 20th, when it was time to get breakfast ready, Daisy didn't want to eat and didn't want to hang out with the Pupsters. Sun morning, Feb 21st, I got her ready and took her to the Vet. The Vet said she was running a high temperature. I told them to do whatever it takes to get her better. She was there for 3 days and she was on all kinds of antibiotics and her temperature was not coming down. They ended up doing a CT Scan and found out that because Daisy was spayed while she was in heat, she developed a Spay-Granuloma. The Vet said she needed to go into surgery right away. They were able to determine that this was the cause of her high temperature and that it was totally infected.

I said of course--do it ASAP. On Feb 25th. It took almost 4 hours because the infection had spread. They ended up removing the Spay-Granuloma and then rinsed and cleaned out the infection. I was able to bring her home on Feb 26th. On Mar 7th evening, she started running a temperature again so on Mon, Mar 8th, I took her to the Vet on my way to work. They called me and said they were going to change her antibiotics and to keep her on them until the removal of her stitches which was Mar 12th. Mar 14th, Daisy is rushed back to the Vet with another infection which has caused her temperature to rise again. This time when they operated, they found an infection near her abdomen which the Vet was not comfortable removing so she called in a specialist surgeon from Washington, DC. He was flown in and upon his arrival, reviewed Daisy’s history and took her into surgery that same day. The infection he removed was another large granuloma. He told me he was sure it was not cancerous and she should be OK in a few days. She stayed in the hospital for 5 days before I was able to bring her home.

Well, you'd never know it was the same old Daisy. . .I can't keep her down. . .she's made herself a new playfriend, Cloe. They are inseparable. They are about the same age and full of energy. I am hopeful that she won't have another relapse but if she does, I feel confident that my Vet will do whatever she can to make her all better. . . .

Chapter 3 The Story of Daisy (Cont.)

Another story short lived. . .Daisy’s been back to the Vet two more times since Mar 14th. She started developing abscess that turned out to be infected. The Vet is baffled as to what might be causing them. She says she’s never seen anything like it. Even the surgeon agreed. They believe that it all stems from being spayed while she was in heat, OR, this is why she was dropped off by the original owners. Maybe they didn’t want to continue with her medical bills and decided it was better to “get rid of the problem.” I don’t know. It’s just to worrisome wondering how long she will be “OK” until the next episode. She is such a sweetheart and loves to be hugged and scratched. . . .

Today, May 16th she comes home again from another infection she developed on Thurs, May 13th. At least I am aware of when she’s getting another infection. She tells me with her eyes and her body movements. If she could only talk, she would tell me everthing is going to be OK Mommy. . . .I love all of my Pupsters and I’ll do whatever I can to make their lives happy and safe. . . .

Sleep tight all you Fur-Mommy’s out there. . .better days are just ahead. . . .

Our Lucky was rescued from a snowbank outside of Reno on Christmas Eve 2001. He spent a month at a local vet with them trying to locate an owner, and then a friend's mother who already had 2 corgis decided we needed another! The name Lucky seemed like a good one for a dog found in a snowbank outside of Reno, he fit right in with our other corgi who has since passed on to corgi heaven. Our Sonny came to us from a family who decided that they no longer wanted him. He is now 9, we have had him a year. He was never trained, and i think that he spent his days in a back room - he doesn't know how to play at all, and is just now starting to be part of the family. This week he decided to climb the rocks out front to guard the yard from the pug that wandered up the drive. Yeah Sonny! If Lucky didn't need wheels, I would now hope that they would start to play together!

Thisis Stumpy, my rescued Bullgi herding our little girl Lucy when she was a puppy. We got him from the local pound, literally savedhim from death row. They had him listed as unadoptable because of the agression he had from severe abuse. My daughter (8 at the time) got into the kennel with him, & thye bonded instantly. He worked for years as a therapy dog. Stumpy turned into a great dog. Now, at 14, he's retired.

We rescued Ruby from Monster Rescue in Battle Mountain, NV in February of 2006. She was a litter breaker Corgi-Jack Russell mix left out for the coyotes. Ruby works as a visitation therapy dog for seniors & Hospice patients. We jokingly call her the old lday magnet. I've left her in my truck with our other Corgis, come out to have a few ladies lined up to pet her. Even people who don't like dogs love Ruby. She's a sweetheart.

We rescued Radar (on couch) 2 weeks ago from a "no kill" shelter in Katy, Texas. They had rescued him from another shelter. He had been in shelter since November. He is about 1 1/2 years old. He is the sweetest dog, good temperment, well mannered. He gets along well with our other Corgi. He is already part of our family. We are blessed to have him.

Taro is a mix corgi and beagle. The previous surrendered him to the city pound because he chewed and destroyed furniture. He’s a dominant and food aggressive little dog. He is my 30 lbs lapdog!

We adopted my first corgix, a lab/corgi from a couple about an hour from us. They were a nice family and had had Bear for three years but he wasn't doing well with their toddler and they didn't have enough time for him anymore. We live in central FL and drove all the way to Atlanta to rescue Howie! He was originally picked up as a stray and placed in a high-kill shelter in GA. A rescue agency out of SC saved him and placed him with several foster family's in GA. I originally was drawn to an add that had Howie and his brother (who was all black) in it, and we wanted to adopt both of them. I inquired only to find out that the black dog had been adopted and was more of a bully anyway. We adopted Howie and all I can say is he has a heart of gold! I absolutely adore him. And his coat is so much more beautiful in person, pictures don't do it justice. He has some black speckled in his tail and along his back and I just love his eyes.
