Hello Everyone - this is a picture of our corgi's enlarged spleen, which was removed on Tuesday morning. Her other organs appear visually to be healthy.
The darker band, wing shaped tissue along the top is what a normal spleen looks like. The rest is diseased spleen tissue and the weight of the whole spleen here is 2.25 lbs.
Bunny is expected to recover completely, she's 12 1/2 years old.
Her spleen was discovered on an ultrasound on Monday afternoon, and from looking at this it had begun to bleed internally into her abdomen.

Thanks everyone - it was sort of weird to see the surgery in progress and Bunny's internal organs as the vet checked for signs of disease. Looking at the spleen on the table just hurt. How often do we get an opportunity to witness this type of thing? The vet has some of the latest instruments for sealing blood vessels, arteries etc to prevent post op bleeding which is a big concern with a surgery involving a tissue that deals with blood storage, movement etc.
Blessings for Bunny that she gets well fast! Give her lots of extra hugs and kisses!
WOW...sounds like Bunny has been through plenty. May she feel as good as new when she is healed...or even better!
Yes John, I agree. Bunny came with heartworms, tore her ACL later, had a mammary tumor, etc. etc. She's such a blessings in my life and I'm very grateful each day that she lives with us.
Our breeder said, "everytjing after 12 years is a gift". A gift from the vet, in this case.
Thanks Michelle - she is apparently chowing down at the vet's office today. True Corgi!
Poor baby! Glad she in on the road to recovery. ^..^
