My corgi (Kirby) is 4 months old and 18 pounds, very healthy and by the vets check-up in a great weight right now. But I have been feeding him the same amount now since he was 12 pounds, I feed him a all grain product with a half sardine. How much do you suggest I be feeding him? Also should I still be doing 3 times a day -- he seems to always be hungry, but also LOVES his food.

Also very curious if anyone knows or remembers the weight of their corgi around this age -- we are under the impression he is going to be a bigger guy. He has such large paws and is already 18 pounds, no fat!

Hi Kirby. My Louie is 4 months old right now. His weight around 15 lbs and the vet he will be bigger than normal corgi and that's fine and i think kirby will be a big corgi too :D

I feed him the same amount 1/2 cup three times daily. the food is mixed fromm and Go fresh all life stages. It's a good idea to feed sardine like you ( i rarely give Louie human grade food so maybe i will give him sardines next time).

As a his said he will take alot of energy just to grown up so i think we are doing the same thing.

I hope this small info help you :D

Also how is the potty training going with yours? Is Louie still having mistakes inside?

The potty train inside have mixed result. But i can say mostly he pee and poop successfully. The breeder trained him to potty outside so for the first time i train him inside there's a lot of effort. I bought a pad from simple solution, maybe it has a scent or something but it works like charm, i try other brand and he will just swallow it.

I adjust the amount of his food because i give him treat (kong stuff/beef liver/cheese). If you give him treat / train him it's a good idea to cut a little bit his main food.

I give him fish oil once a day and it makes his coat shiny but i like your idea for giving him sardine :D real stuff always better.

I am feeding him a little bit under that, I think I need to bump it up -- he swallows his bowl whole when I feed him. I really think the sardines have made his coat super soft and shiny. Thanks for the info.

I'd say around 1.5-2 cups a day. Being a big puppy doesn't necessarily mean they will end up oversized though, a lot of it depends on what type of food they're eating, and what lines they're from. A premium puppy food is going to make a dog grow very quickly compared to one that is on a lower quality food or even an ALS formula.

I screwed up I meant to say GRAIN FREE,  once we weaned him off the other food he was on from the breeder he has been on this brand and we were feeding him less because of the contents. But I think I may need to give him more now that he is growing so quickly.

hi Jane, can i asked based on your comment?

If you said premium puppy food will make your puppy grow quickly, does it mean bad or good? I just want my puppy grow normal not over growth. I give my puppy ALS food from start and never once give puppy food. I just want to make sure i'm doing the right thing.

Thank you for your info.

Just stay with the ALS food :) as long as you aren't feeding him puppy food anymore you don't want him growing to fast.
Make sure you switch to an adult dog food in a month or to because they are larger dogs and the puppy food doesn't allow time for there bones to form strong. It makes them have fast growth spurts. And make sure it's not a small adult dog food. Needs to be large breed or just regular adult dog food. Also the puppy food will cause weight gained he gets older because of the high protien.

Yes very good point I have had him on just the good grain free food that isn't adult or puppy just food since we weaned him off about a month ago.

Oh good. Well even though you are feeding him the sardine food you can still put fish oil or salmon oil or vegitable oil. I'm telling you it makes there fur like silk. And it 10 mgrams per ten pounds. It's pod for there heart and joints.

Everyone else has provided really good advice, so I will only add and say that as you'll probably notice in good time, Corgis are FOODIES. They always *seem* to be quite hungry and interested in food. Don't let that trick you :) It's very easy for Corgis to become overweight and that can be very taxing on their health in the long run. I believe that when Chloe was 4 months old she was on a 1cup 2x day and the occasional cottage cheese or egg mixed in with her kibble. She also seems to like apple and sweet potato for snacks.
