Hi! I am excited to see a group for undocked pems! When we started looking for a corgi, I had no idea they were born with such lovely tails and then I met my Sidney. I am a proud mom to an undocked Pembroke and I love it! He gets lots of attention and sometimes corgi people think he is a funny-looking Cardigan! It seems there are lots of people out there who think like I once did: that Pembrokes are just born that way. Sidney is a great ambassador for the undocked look!
Someday we will add another corgi to our family and I hope and pray we will be able to find another undocked Pem.
It's illegal to dock tha tail in most of Europe. It's still legal in our country, but new laws are being prepared, so my breeder kept the tails of the pups. Our Risa has a nice tail, although he doesn't wag it too much at me :)
Hooray for undocked Pems! I saw Wendulik's post in another forum about European treatment of undocked Pems, and I was thrilled! We realized we wanted to keep our Pem's tail from being docked the moment we met Milo, my boyfriend's aunt's Pembroke (he was a runt and wasn't well enough to have his tail docked as a pup).So we got in touch with a breeder first and "special ordered" Pepper. We picked her out at 12 hours old, and I honestly think she's the prettiest of her litter if only for that cute little tail! So it's good to hear more of us are making Corgi lovers aware that they're not born with out tails! I'm excited to get to know you all!
Our corgi has a tail but we may be joining "Undocked Pembrokes"on false pretenses. Pimms's heritage is unknown to us as we adopted him. We always thought he was a Cardigan, but after talking to some breeders at our regional show, they suggested his head and ear shape and his size makes him more likely a Pembroke with a tail. We don't mind, we all love his tail, up in the air flagging when he's chipper, lagging when he's tired.
I bought my last puppy Jack from a breeder who claimed he was a Pem. She said the litter's tails were a little long so they docked them, but not too short because they felt it was dangerous. Jack is now almost a year old and I am certain now he is a Cardi. You should see his ears and paws...they're HUGE! I wouldn't trade him, or his 3 inch tail for a million dollars. :)
Hello all! I am a student hoping to get a corgi when I graduate in a few years. I was wondering how you guys came about your undocked pems. Is there any other way other than contacting a breeder and deciding which one puppy when they are only days old? Or are there breeders in the U.S. who do not dock their pems? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
The breeder we decided to go with actually just stopped docking ALL her corgis about a year ago (I think). My guess is either find a breeder that's against docking or contact the breeder before the litter is born.
It's in south-eastern Pennsylvania. The breeder, Susie, has been very nice and all her dogs seem very happy. She also breeds German Shepherds if you're interested.
We just got Talula at EZ Brook (her brother is below). I think Susie said this was her 1st litter with undocked tails. Talula is obsessed with catching her tail.
Hi everyone! My Lola had 6 beautiful puppies on 4/22/09 and I have decided to not dock their tails.... I am European so I'm very used to seeing all dogs "au-naturale" lol I'm so glad there are more people who agree with no docking, plus their tails are beautiful and fluffy!
My Potus has an undocked tail- it being illegal here in Victoria. I knows some people prefer them without, but hos tail gives him so much personality! He loves waving it about high in the air when out on walks.
Walking down the street people keep asking me "oh is she part corgi?".... the tail throws them off so they don't know what to think of her. I'm thinking soon I may just tell everyone she is a baby fox that I found in the park.
Just an FYI...I will not be docking my pups tails whenever we have some next year...I was very glad to get so much feedback even though I had pretty much decided not too anyway!
I had a Pembroke owner as me if my undocked Pembroke was a cardigan? I was shocked that she couldn't tell what another Pembroke looked like. She also works at a pet store.
Al & Gwynn only have tales, not tails, but I love to see Pems with tails.
We tried to find a breeder who'd save an undocked pup for us, but found it doesn't work that way. Our breeder didn't even let us pick which pup -- she picked Al for us, and I am totally sure she made the best choice.
I wish the breed standard would be rewritten so that au naturale tails are OK, and "let the market decide".
My little Goldie without a tail!!! That gives her more personality!! Without a tail i wouldnt see when shes happy! Also it keeps her from biting our furniture!!! She doesnt chase her tail, she just likes to sit there and bite it! ITS CUTE!! Also in my country Australia its Ellegal AND BOY AM I HAPPY IT IS!!!
Oppy loves his tail. He loves to grab it and run in circles. It gives him personality. He also gets sassy and hold his tail up high when he wants your attention.
