Just back from camping at 4pawskingdom in NC. Last weekend was oktoberfest with activites for the fur kids (sausage bobbing), hiking, swimming in the lake and catered dinner of authentic german foods by the german owners, yum!
We finally got our travel trailor back from the repair site (got run into by a woman in storage).Made a quick run to Monterey, stayed in a newr.v. park for Us,Marina Dunes, that has a great walking access to the beach that allows dogs!!As most Californians know, not many dog-friendly beaches around here now!!Hopefully,Hubby will be posting pics soon.Work for him right now is crazy.
Glacier Peak loop Sept. 2010
This is the trip report for Al's 9-day hike around Glacier Peak (Washington Cascades, Glacier Peak Wilderness). Not an especially arduous backpacking trip, averaging 12-mile days maybe, and we stayed on the trail because it was mostly wet -- that is, normal. 9 days backpacking, living in a tiny solo tent, less-than-pleasant weather, we got cheated out of some of the finest scenery in the world. No challenge for a corgi.
This link gives trip reports for many of Gwynnie & Al's exploits, if you want to see what a corgi can do: Cascade Liberation Organization
We had a great road trip for 2 weeks starting 12/27-1/9/11.Spent time at Disneyland, then on to Las Vegas. The corgi loved the red rock canyon area right outside of Vegas, and a quirky little park in Anaheim of all places, that is near a river
with trees, grass and no concrete!!Go figure!Oh yeah,Merlin hated the firewroks at Disney!!Should have some pics up soon.
It's 20 degrees, there is a foot of snow on the ground, and my husband says that the Travel Trailer is "calling to him" every time he goes in the garage. !!!! yikes!
We're going to Disney for Spring Break, Judy, but we'll be flying, so no corgis! (visit with Grandma and Granpa for them!)
We just made our camping reservations for Labor Day weekend! We have Spring and Summer mapped out and are ready to go, just need May to get here soon! @John, I think the path looks a little "iffy"
Right now,Everybody,We are extremely jeaulous about camping.Merlin is having his 2nd surgery on another hindleg 3/9,so camping will need to wait until He gets thru alot of His rehab.Wish Us luck with Our boy so We can get back out there-and possibly meet some of Our corgi Friends!!
It's nice to meet you'll, I'm Don, food provider and entertainment source for Jazmin. Glad to be here and find out that corgi's can with stand camping.
I'm more of the John type of camping, backpack, stove, mat and necessary provisions to keep weight light. Just wanted to make sure that if Jazmin goes out on a day trip she will survive it.
I also do Disc Golf, hiking and various other types of outdoor entertainment, been cooped up last 3 months and the spring winds are calling my name..
I'll loose my walking partner for a few weeks come end of April, she is getting spayed. No more " No, Jazmin, leave it...that's not my disc" for a bit. Not looking forward to lack of company.
None to say the least, nothing like stringing up a hammock and having a corgi lay with ya. Who needs a blanket then, lol.
Anyways, nice to meet you'll, if I'm on the site, likely I'm in the chat box ( can be found at the very bottom of your web browser, it says " MyCorgi Chat" ) so pop in for a time if you would like.
well we camp in a tent trailer as a family (husband, wife, daughter, two dogs) but I'm inspired to hike locally more with the furgirls now that I see how much others' corgis can hike.
Hiking is my camping joy, and I can certainly do it more around home too!
Merlin is doing great after His 2nd ccl surgery last wed.3/9.We should be able to head out in the travel trailor in about a month,BUT no hiking,no beach etc.Gonna be hard sticking to the campsite. As all our pics show,They both are very active corgis.
Good to hear that Merlin is doing well! Scout is 6 weeks post surgery now, and it is really difficult to keep him from running, etc! Let him out to potty in the yard yesterday without a leash (my bad)!, and he spotted a squirrel--the chase was on! Had to drag him away from the tree, and inside again--he just doesn't understand.
We are starting to make camping plans after a very lonng Winter. Gretzky is ready for some hiking in the woods in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This snow Corgi just won a photo contest at an animal shelter fund raiser. Yaaay Gretzky - won a $25.00 gift certificate at a very nice restaurant. He says he's ordering some pate'.
Unfortunetly my lil' girl of 8 months old has the stamina of about a flea, were going to have to work with that somehow. I'm currently taking her to the local dog park to get her run on. She dosen't know how to play so it consists of chase, then submissive lay... repeat the process or until she gets board.
I tent camp and do backpacking trips. I know that Annabelle whom is a dachshund did make the trips just fine when she could. She is an old girl now of 10 years so long weekends out combined with the hills of the hike really don't get along with her. Hopefully Jazmin will be able to make those trips, but I do believe that she will have to be worked out first before our first outting.
We couldn't wait any longer to take the pups out camping, even tjough Merlin is only 6 wks into His 2nd ccl surgery.Found a flat campsite over on the Sonoma coast with
views of the bay right out our trailor living room window.A slight incline ramp got the pups into the truck and the trailor just fine.It always surprises Me just how fast We all decompress after just a couple days out in nature.
Hi all! First camping trip of the year in the history books! We didn't exactly rough it- we went to Branson and stayed at a reasonably developed campground.
the girls loved it, as usual, however, and were calm enough that they got to sleep in the camper without a crate...(in the past we've been too nervous that they would chew it up).
they also made friends with another corgi girl named Gracie. I didn't get any photos taken this time, but I will next time!
Our first camping trip at the beach in Holland Michigan went well. It was cold but the predicted rain did not come. Looking forward to Memorial Weekend now!
It sounds like you all have a lot of fun with your camping corgis!! We camp in east Texas and Louisiana a lot with our corgi and she is always exhausted at the end of the day. We are looking forward to heading out with her again soon!
@Kara:What a cutie you have!!We will be heading out again for trip#2 next week. Can't wait!!We have a recovering ccl corgi,10 weeks past surgery #2,and doing quite well.Merlin has been a real trooper thru it all.Take care and hope the flood waters stay away from your area.
Just got back Sunday from the first real camping trip since Merlin's 2 surgeries.Had a blast!!His strength is improving every day and He was in the river as soon as we let him down on the beach :).Check out a few of our pics.
We just returned from our Memorial Day trip too. Had fun camping in Frankenmuth, Mi while the Dog Bowl was going on. Lots of dog related activities and dogs at almost every campsite.
we camped this Memorial Day too, at Stockton Lake. The girls had new life jackets, but the water was so high that our normal swimming beach was under water. They didn't like the mud, I think, and didn't get in much. They had a great time otherwise!
our corgi is quite the shy snuggle puss, we take him camping and he loves to stay in the tent the entire time, once we were camping and someone needed to get something from our tent, he screamed and stumbled out crying "THERE'S A DOG IN THERE!" this was the 2nd day and our Angus (corgi) was such a tent puppy, he had no idea.
Heading out in the redwoods again NEXT weekend after the 4th.This time we will have Our Daughter's Family and friends-plus one more corgi, our grandpup Logan. Now,Logan has never been camping :)Wish Us luck with Our two who wander the beach and are loved by the people who work there.Logan's gonna be one tired boy!!
Happy 4th of July everyone! We're just back from Stockton Lake here in MO, where it was about a million degrees all weekend. I'll have photos later......
John- It is hard to call what we do camping after seeing your photos! But fortunately there is a way to camp for every taste. Our hikes involve walking to the camp store for ice cream...
I agree about John, Bev. We aren't as high class as you all (just a tent trailer), but we also never hit 36,000 feet! We do hike: hence this "find the corgi" photo (hope it comes out turned the right way...
Love the find the corgi in the picture pictures too! Thanks, we enjoy the RV too. My tent camping days are long over and now roughing it is camping without water and sewer but we used to go without and still loved it. I think you need a little "nomad" in there to really enjoy it.
We had a blast on Our camping trip up to the redwoods here in Ca.Our grandpup Logan has benn to the ocean, but not a river, and He took to it like a fish!!He's a corgi with legs a little longer than "the norm" and swam like crazy. Our Merlin loves the water as well (and the 1/2 brother of Logan) but He's still a litttle timid in deep water after the 2 ccl surgeries. He'll be there soon!!Keri of course barely gets her tummy wet, which is easy beings she's the shortest corgi I've ever seen.Hopefull Hubby will have pics soon.He had to head to work 6 hours after We got home :(
Took Rex on his first camping trip this past week. We had an amazing time, and I think he did too! He met a couple other corgis, and he loved them! He actually didn't bark at them, it's like he recognized that they were the same. He didn't love swimming too much, but we were able to coax him in a few times. He would swim a little bit, that turn back to shore.
