OK, how many good looking Corgis were at the Fort Woof dog park tonight? (9-7-11).
  • Danielle

    A TON of fury fun!!

There were about 7 pemmies and two cardies -- There was an Emmie and an Emma, a Meeko and a Zoe, a Preston, a Roo and and ioan, and three whose names I promptly forgot (not for lack of cuteness, lol).  There was a lot of chasing, lots of playing, and lots of petting.  Can't wait to do it again!!

And for those who asked, the two farms in the area (and I say that loosely) are alomar farms in Van Alstyne and Endgate Ranch in Ennis.  I have experience with Alomar; email me off list if you want my opinion.  We train our dogs (agility) at paws in Rhome (30 m. NW of downtown fort worth), and we do tracking with our beagle at deed's canine connection.  ioan is in the beginning tracking class now.

Fun times tonight!!  It was great to meet all of you, and Felix had a blast!  For those of you whose dogs enjoyed our dog ice cream, here is the recipe:

Frosty Paws - Dog Ice Cream

    32 oz. plain yogurt

    1 banana, mashed

    2 T peanut butter

    2 T honey

Mix all ingredients in a blender.  Pour into cups or ice cube trays and freeze.  Serve as a summer treat!

    A few pictures from tonight!!

    Corgi Meetup at Fort Woof

I am working on putting the pictures I snapped into that ^ album. Let me know if it doesn't work.

We had so much fun! Thanks to Felix's mom for the doggy ice cream!

  • Danielle

Wow -- super photos -- thanks for sharing Jenny and Shelly!  Easy to see who the social butterflies are, lol. Maybe we can do a "trick or treat" park visit in October??
  • Suneera and Emmy

I posted my pictures on facebook and I have 153! I don't really want to post all of them again on here, so if you search for me on facebook, the album is public!

Oh my gosh we had a blast!  Emma has hardly been able to keep her eyes open since I got home though!  I forgot how nice it is to watch TV without a Kong toy being shoved in my lap... Ha!  I took a few pictures tonight before my battery became "exhausted" so I'll charge it up and get them on here.  So nice meeting all of y'all!

FYI for anyone interested in the Dog Day at Hawaiian Falls water park....

    When: next Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10:00AM - 4:00PM

Where: Hawaiian Falls Water Park - GARLAND LOCATION

I thought it was cheaper, but that was another water park event from last week.  It is a fundraiser benefiting Metroplex Animal Coalition - so I guess I can understand that :)

Its sounds like the corgi meet up was a huge success!  I love all the pics.  I am really sorry I couldn't be there, I got tied up at work.  I so wanted to meet all of you and meet some of the gorgeous corgis!
  • Denise Gilbert James

Yes, we need to plan another, so for those of that could not make it. They all played and no fighting? Great pics you guys have.
  • Suneera and Emmy

It would be fun to do it again! Maybe we can meet up at a different dog park.
  • Danielle

Any suggestions for the day/time/place for the next corgi round-up?  It's been a nice peaceful day around here, lol. . . . It's hard for us to make it before 6:30 or 7 to Denton or Dallas or Collin counties, but we'll try! I think there's a dog park in NRH that might be more centrally located. . anyone ever been there?
  • Suneera and Emmy

    We have

    Tipps Canine Hollow at NRH,

    Dome Park in Addison,

    Irving Dog Park,

    Wagging Tail in Dallas,

    White Rock Lake in Dallas,

    Wiggly Field in Denton,

    and Fort Woof

  • Danielle

How about Tipps Hollow?  That might be closer for the folks in the north and east?

  • Suneera and Emmy

NRH is about an hour away from Denton on week-nights. But if everyone else is okay with that, we'll make the drive.
  • Suneera and Emmy

How are Tuesday nights for everyone? I can do the 20th or 27th.
  • Danielle

I think the 27th is better for us -- and we'll meet up at whichever park the majority chooses -- how about it guys?  Where will the next meet-up be?
  • Keysia Monte

I have class Monday and Tuesday nights so I won't be able to make it.
  • Suneera and Emmy

We can do a different day. These next few Wednesdays, I'll be at work until 5:30 so I can't make a long drive.

What days are good for everyone?
  • Jenny, Tucker, & Zoey

We can't do Tuesdays or Thursdays. :(
  • Joey Nolegs Gilbert

We'd like to come by but Joey is very much an alpha male who might not get along.  He's not keen on other Corgis.  We tried.  He doesn't care.  To him.  They're just another dog.  We can take him to this park.  Where is the Wiggly Park?  Near the Denton old courthouse?
  • Danielle

What about a weekend meet up instead? Hopefully, more people can make it then, and distance and rush-hour traffic won't be such a concern. . .
  • Denise Gilbert James

Week-end sounds great to me, but not this week-end. Just throwing this out.. October 1st??

Joey and Labus do not need to meet then. I thought I was the only with an alpha Corgi ha ha.... He seems to dislike bigger dogs though. Dogs his size he seems to be ok, or smaller. My other Corgi Boudreaux is very shy. He is the one I will bring though..

  • Shelly Duell

I would definitely prefer a weekend - like especially a Sunday evening might work for a lot of people.  Thoughts?

Although I would LOVE to get everyone up to Wiggly Field in Denton, I know that's a much further drive for most of you.  Any thoughts about the park in Lewisville - Railroad Park?  I've heard good things about it but haven't been.

I also was looking at a place in the middle of Dallas called the Pooch Patio - it's a patio where your dogs can be off leash and you can sit and have beer, wine, or a latte and watch them!  They also have dog grooming and daycare, etc.  Has anyone ever been there?  It might be something really fun to get together and do sometime!

  • Keysia Monte

I've been to the Lewisville railroad park before and there isn't any good shade. Mikko and I didn't stay long because we got to hot.
  • Shelly Duell

Ahhh that's fine then.  We'll go wherever we can!
  • Suneera and Emmy

Can we do the 2nd instead? That's a Sunday
  • Suneera and Emmy

Joey, Wiggly Field is on Ryan Street, which is off of Teasley. If you're going North on 35, take Teasley and go left, make a right at the CVS (still Teasley), and a right on Ryan. Wiggly is the 3rd-ish street on your left!
  • Mysocalledjoey

Mr. Larz and I can go whenever in the afternoon at wiggy park. We haven't gone recently do to it's too hot. But I always get excited when I see other corgis in Denton, or anywhere really :) Larz seems to only like other corgis. He doesn' like dogs bigger than him. He is ok with smaller dogs but tends to get annoyed easy if they are very young. He is 7 years old so I feel like he's a grumpy old man trying to herd the younger dogs around and keep them in order.
  • Curtis B

We don't have a Corgi but are really interesting in getting one.  Anyone object if my kids (12 and 8) and I come by to visit?
  • Danielle

Hi Canned Ham:  I can't speak for any one else, but our cardis (ioan and roo) luuuuuv kids.  Last gathering, there was a really little girl (maybe two YO?) who wandered by to play, and all the dogs were really nice to her. . .
  • Jenny, Tucker, & Zoey

Who all is going to Wags N Waves tomorrow at Hawaiian Falls in Garland? Hope to see some other Corgis there.. We are just bringing Tucker, not Zoey. She'd run off to go visit and we'd never see her again.
  • Suneera and Emmy

Can we have a corgi meet-up at Wiggly in Denton for the people close enough to meet here? I am free Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and most weeknights next week? Joey, Larz, Felix are all Denton corgis, and maybe some other folks can join us!
  • Nicole & Emma

Hi, just joined the group! I have a 10 week old puppy, named Emma. Was wondering if there is anyone else out there with puppies who'd like to get together!
  • Suneera and Emmy

Emmy is 5 months! We would love to meet!
  • Denise Gilbert James

Denton is fine with me, we live in Bridgeport.  How cute, a 5 month old and a 10 week old.  I miss the "cute puppy breath".  There is just nothing more adorable than a Corgi puppy with the ears and all...  Have a great night all!!
  • Suneera and Emmy

Okay, The next corgi meetup is Wednesday, September 28th @6pm Wiggly Field! Hope to see all of you there! We can meet in the little dog side, or take over the middle area so all the corgis are forced to play together! See all of you there!
  • Katherine Jones Burns

Preston and I would love to come but the poor booger is getting snipped this week and he'll be healing. Note to Syneye, I'd love to see a 10 week old but a dog park is a BAD place for a pup under at least 3 or 4 months old. Talk to your vet. I know all us corgi lovers do all we can to protect our little loves but you don't know that the other dog owners out there are as responcible and the littler they are the more suseptable they are to all kinds of junk. Until they've had their last round of shots, usually around 4 months, I wouldn't risk them around other dogs unless you KNOW they're up on their shots and completely healthy. Our vet told us not to even take him into a petsmart till he was full vaxed. Not to sound santimonious or anything but just a word of advice. All that being said Preston got conjuntavitis at the last corgi coral at woof park. No biggy though. It happens and he had a blast but he's old enough now at 6mos. Maybe set up a private play date not at a big park with other misc dogs. ;)
  • Nicole & Emma

Haha, thank you for the helpfulness. I actually wasn't going to bring her to the meetups quite yet. I would rather she have all her shots completed first as you said :)
  • Katherine Jones Burns

Good call. Once Preston is back in action we'd love to get together. He LOVES puppies. I think he developed a crush on Emmy at Fort Woof!
  • Shelly Duell

Argh!  Why Wednesday???  That's the one night we can't come out!  I'll double check, and I might not have rehearsal, but usually we have to punt Wednesdays for dog park fun.
  • Jenny, Tucker, & Zoey

Denton is too far for us on a weekday-- maybe we can come up another weekend. Y'all have fun!

  • Joey Nolegs Gilbert

Yeah.  I agree.  We're in Denton but we're not meeting other dogs.  Joey does not like bonding with other Corgis.  I think that's a fantasy us dog owners have that we project on our dogs.  This breed is very independent.  Plus the shots thing has us concerned.  We take Joey to a secret park that's free of dog poop and other dogs.
  • Suneera and Emmy

I think the meetups are more for the owners but it is still fun for the corgis. I dont think Emmy adheres to the independence thing. She loves to make new corgi friends because they play just like she does. We go to wiggly almost every weekday but I can make some weekends too so just let me know if you want Emmy to play with your corgis!!
  • Joey Nolegs Gilbert

We love to observe other Corgis but Joey will not allow us to get close.  We're at the old courthouse square every morning around 10-11 if you want to visit.  Joey's mid morning walk.
  • Denise Gilbert James

If anyone can not go on the week day, how about a park on Saturday 10-1?
