Loki might swim... I might leave Lilu home 'cause she's been sick the past couple of days. She's doing better now, but I don't want to overexert her.

  • Adrian and Leo

I think me and Leo are headed there around 5ish

  • Nicole & Emma

I will be out there 6:15-6:30. But, I take Emma to the large dog size to play. It's spacious, better seatings & shade.

  • Jessie & Lola

Any corgis up for the dog park after work?  Either Wagging Tails or North Bark around 6:30-7?!?

  • Lauren Heacker

I just learned about this awesome group! I live in Denton with my boyfriend and our 5 month-old Pembroke, Karma. I'd love to meet up with some other corgis up here in Denton some time soon! :)

  • Christina Beasley

I'll be there with gallifrey tomorrow around 7:30
  • Christina Beasley

By there I mean wiggley field its the only denton dog park I know of... If there's others please put up suggestions because I would love one closer to my apartment!
  • Lauren Heacker

Tomorrow night isn't available for me, sorry! My schedule is always a bit hectic. But I will be following this group closely to see if there are any meetups I can attend in the future! I can't wait to meet everyone. :)

  • Suneera and Emmy

I am not positive I can be out there tomorrow night, but I'll try! Lauren, we are out there all the time, so just post on here whenever you are going!

  • Jackie (Lilu & Loki)

Just FYI: There's going to be a bit of a bbq at North Bark Park tomorrow starting around 4, and probably going about 8. Feel free to bring your corgis by (and maybe some food to share). They said they'd have plenty of stuff to grill, but maybe a side or dessert would be helpful.

I also wanted to throw out an idea for anyone interested in going hiking with their dogs... Cedar Hill State Park has some great trails. It's south of Dallas, and probably a bit of a drive for most of us, but maybe if we all go together it'll make the trip worth while.

    Here's the website: http://www.cedarhillstatepark.org/Recreation/trails.html

Let me know what y'all think.

Bookie, I think I can take him, just waiting on confirmation from my husband. We wouldn't be able to pick him up until tomorrow. I'd like to introduce him to my corgi before commiting to taking him, but like I said we should be able to make arrangements to come to plano tomorrow. Will that work for you? You can text or call me at 3258645057.
  • Christina Beasley

I'm making the cupcakes right now, gallifrey thinks the batter ia pretty tasty! We can't wait to see everyone there!
  • Teresa Gilpin

I am really pulling for Zach to get a good home!  Keysia, let us all know how it works out for you.  He really sounds like a sweetie!

  • Denise Gilbert James

Happy first birthday Gallifrey !!!   Yall take losts of pics...  And praying for Zach to get a good home!!

  • Keysia Monte

I'm sorry to say that I won't be able to give Zach a new home. We both really want to, but my husband is concerned that with our baby due at the beginning of September that we won't be able to give Zach the love and attention he needs to feel comfortable in a new home with another dog and 2 cats. After some time to think I have to agree that the timing is a little off. Please keep me updated on how his situation turns out.
  • Shelly Duell

Hey everyone!  We're taking Felix out to Wiggly Field tonight around 7:00.  Join us if you're free!!

  • Shelly Duell

We have officially added a new corgi to our family!  Jack is a 2-year-old pembroke who is a big sweetie!  We have already had some ups and downs with introducing a new dog to our home, but I think we're on the right track.  Check out my blog about our adventures so far and any advice you can give would be much appreciated!!

  • Shelly Duell

We are going to take both dogs to Wiggly Field tonight after dinner (probably 6:30 or 7:00).  Come join us and meet Jack!  We are trying to get the dogs to play together, and Jack seems really interested in playing with other dogs.  See you there!!

  • Bookie

Good luck to Zach!  I hope this will be his forever home.  And thank you for taking such great care of him!  Please keep us posted.

  • Bookie

Not a match, unfortunately....I think she wanted an AKC dog, and although he has a breeders certificate showing his sire and dame are both Corgis he is both taller and much portlier than the standard, and was was registered by someone called the CKC??? So he's NOT AKC.

He did show us all that he's not only willing but able to swim......

He  understands "sit", "get in", "no' and "go get it".  He's housebroken and plays well with other dogs. He has a very nice demeanor, and is quiet and affectionate. Please let me know if you know anyone who wants a really good doggie.

  • Christina Beasley

I have a friend looking for a reputable corgi breeder in north texas would any of you know of a good corgi breeder?
  • Curtis B

We got Kirby from a breeder near Whitesboro.  She had AKC papers for the sire but not the dam.  The person who sold her the dam has been dragging her heels getting her the paperwork for a long time, she said.  We were not concerned with AKC lineage and did come out to look at Kirby's parents beforehand.

We've been very happy with Kirby.  He is a bit smaller than the other Pemmies in this group, but that's not a major issue.  He's had no health problems so far (turns 9 months this month).  We paid $300 for him.

If you want show dog-quality AKC pups, Blue Moon is in Sanger.

    Bookie,

CKC is Continental Kennel Club.  There is a lot of debate about the validity of CKC registration versus AKC.  Here's my two cents on it:

CKC was established in response to the AKC "closed stud book" system.  For each breed AKC recognizes, there is a registry of dogs going back for years and years.  If your dog's sire and dam are not direct descendants of dogs in the registry book, it can never be AKC.  The closed book prevents dogs that may have "undesirable" characteristics from entering the breed. If a new breed is accepted by the AKC, there is a window of opportunity for dogs in that breed to be registered with AKC.  When the window is closed, that is it.

Closed books invite inbreeding problems.  For a good discussion on this topic, see http://www.dogchannel.com/dog-breeds/dog-breeding/article_15328.aspx.

AKC started off the book system the same way CKC operates today: visual inspection of the dog to see if it conforms to a set standard.  I've written to CKC about their process in which you send photos of the dog to be evaluated.  They have a panel of people with experience in the breed examine the pictures and they make the determination.  It sounds like registrations is based on "Yup, that looks like a Corgi." but critics fail to recognize that the vaunted AKC stud book started off exactly the same way.  To a large extent, it's *still* that way with dogs that do not have the approved "look" banned from the show ring.  Your fluffy Corgi may have AKC parents on both sides, but you cannot show him at AKC events since he does not conform to the approved "look".

I am death on the "breed for show ring" concept.  I see the value of AKC and CKC registrations as allowing a prospective dog buyer to be reasonably assured that the dog they chose, presumably after lots of research on the breed's general traits and personality, is a good representative of the breed they want.

CKC today is where AKC was 100 years ago.  In my opinion, a CKC registration is just as valid as AKC when it comes to stating a given dog is a good representation of a specific breed.

  • Christina Beasley

Leah found the pup for he's not registered ckc or akc but that wasn't something that was really important any way. He's 2 weeks old so she won't be getting him for another mont h and he'll be coming to visit everyone at wiggly field as soon as he's 4 months old with all his shots.

Match made in Heaven!!!! The North TX Corgi Rescue found him a home: Match Made in Heaven  and in his newly svelte shape (3 lbs lighter and you can actually see the grooves where his legs meet his body), no longer fuming every room he enters (it was hell in the Prius at first) and he no longer breathes like a bulldog, he was matched with the PERFECT new household. Thank you for all your encouragement! Ollie and I will see you at the Bark Park.

  • Teresa Gilpin

I am so thrilled that Zach found himself a new furever home!  I hope that both of them share lots of laughs and love!  Thank you for keeping us updated!

There is a corgi in the Mckinney Shelter. I would take him, but I already have two and my apartment wont let me have more.

  • Curtis B

That Corgi is no longer shown on the shelter search results.  Looks like someone swooped in to save him.

  • Curtis B

There is a pretty lil' tri female Corgi with Faerydog Corgi Rescue in Graham looking for a home:  http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/23351510

There is also a male Corgi that may or not be a mix in Dallas: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/23406161?rvp=1  Buster has the classic Pemmie red/white colors and an undocked tail (which is the new standard in the UK, as I have been informed).

Pass the word to all your friends, who we all know deeply envy you for having a Corgi in your lives, so they can share the stumpy joy!

  • Jenny, Tucker, & Zoey

We need to meet up again one morning.. or evening.. :)

  • Keysia Monte

Hi Everyone!!! We need to do another meetup soon. Either a Wednesday or Sunday would be best for me. I am expecting our daughter to be born around the end of August, beginning of September and I really want to get Mikko out one more time before then so that he can have some fun. Anyone up for meeting a ft woof, or the Irving dog park. I live in Irving, so I can't really drive very far being so pregnant.

  • Brent Orr

    That sounds good !

  • Jenny, Tucker, & Zoey

I can't do Wednesday (agility class), but Sunday is good!

  • Shelly Duell

Denton Animal Services just posted a link on FB about a stolen Corgi in Denton. She's just a puppy! I know a lot of you guys are out in that area, if you could go and share her photo - I'm sure you'd make her Corgmama/dad very happy.

i go to the dogpark about once a week. i guess im used to my car club hangouts but do you guys do any weekly gathering or anything>

  • Tracy Bell

I'd like to meetup with other Corgi owners at the Plano dog park off of Spring Creek. the Addison park is nice but a little far for us.

  • Jackson Ralston

well im in denton so we have one 5 min away. i work in addison but sadly i cannot bring my dog to work...

  • Tracy Bell

Ours is 5 minutes from the house as well, Denton would be a little far for us, especially since Gertie gets carsick on the highway.  However I did get the fun of working from home and having my corgi work with me every day.

  • Nicole & Emma

We have a get together every monday @ North Bark for the Corgis. We all meet on the big dog side around 6:30-7 and are usually out there til about 8.

  • Mr. Barkley and Debi

I need more friends in the Carrollton/Dallas/Denton area!!!!!

  • Mr. Barkley and Debi

Does anyone know if Penny Lane has been found in Denton?  I am praying he will be found....I can't begin to know what her owner is going through!!!!!

  • Tracy Bell

Debi - I was wondering the same thing, they have been in our thoughts, pray that she is safe and being loved. I would be beside myself in their shoes.
