I had a dog stolen once, and when I offered a reward - a relative of the person who had her actually came forward, for the reward.  I then knew where my dog was, and in the end paid (yes, amounts to ransom) to have her back.  The people who had stolen her were friends of one of the neighbors (not neighbors I knew very well, just neighbors).

I'm so sorry, I know the heartache and the anger it makes a person feel.

I might also suggest you fax your flyer to veterinarians in the surrounding area - they generally will post it, and it gives them a head's up should anyone bring your dog in.
