Alice, I built the weave poles this evening. Easiest part of the project! :-)
Pa'ani, the dog walk uprights are simple torsion boxes built with 1/2" x 12" shelf wood sandwiching two pieces of 2x4. The uprights rest on 4x4 redwood that I salvaged from an old shed skid. The run part is just more 1/2" x 12" shelf wood with flat hinges for the slant boards so they can fold over for easier moving of the whole unit. The slant boards have a bit of redwood on the ends to keep the cheap shelf wood off the damp ground. The whole thing is screwed together with 1 5/8" deck screws.
Hoop jump? I'd forgotten about that one! Well, we're pretty much out of room in the yard, Alice, so we may have to do without that one. Of course we could buy a house with a bigger yard....Hmmm....no, not too practical even for me.
Alice, years ago I had a Springer Spaniel that I trained to jump through my "hooped" arms. Of course he could jump pretty high and I could bend over further in those days and still stand up again. :-(
Gromit is one lucky dog with his own training center.
Anyone WHO was at the picnic March 14th and waited to the end the pictures the photographer took can be seen at www.pupart.com
Hi Everyone.............I just heard from Vicki Combs that Jim Mills from ": Dogs on Course" and Agility", He's a Trainer and was wondering if anyone would be interested in coming to his facility and doing practice runs for $5.00 it will be held on either a mon or fri nite. Date hasn't been set.........It will be in NW Phoenix. As soon as I have further info I'll let you know...............Rosemary
I hate to tell you all this but after all that, Grace was not pregnant:(
She went through a false pregnancy. I cannot believe it:( SO we will be trying again in her next heat. Have any of you been through this? She showed all the signs of being pregnant except for getting really big. So I guess Gods Plan is to wait. Should be able to make the next meet up:)
Are there any other Corgi lovers in the Prescott area? I would love a meet up! On a side note, my roommate was driving around earlier and alerted me to a license plate that said CORGEEZ it completely turned my day right side up again!
Is anyone interested in a play date at the Foothills Dog Park in Glendale before it gets too hot. Would love to see you all and our fluffy kids........Rosemary
I want to have a Tucson get together too! There's a new dog park (opened late February) on Cortaro and Silverbell. It's only a little over an hour away from Gilbert/Chandler area for Phoenix people who want to come. I think the Sahuarita dog park is prettier though but that's south of Tucson.
I think we were at foothills park a couple meet ups ago and didn't like. That's around 57th ave and Union Hills isn't it. It was all dirt, no grass and Finn ended up throwing up. If that's the park I think we'll sit this one out.
Sorry I wasn't back on line had some surgeries done. I really don't go to Foothills Park even though I live in the area. If everyone would like to met at Scottsdale that sounds good. What about this coming weekend if the weather isn't going to be too hot..............Let's try.............Rosemary
Yeah, we can try to meet this coming weekend. Maybe Sunday evening when the sun is going down so it's not so hot? Or we could do the following Saturday. This Saturday we'll be unavailable though.
Are we talking about the Chaparral park on Hayden and McDonald?
We met some Corgis in our new neighborhood and I told them to come check out the site. Finn really liked playing with the female that is about his age so i hope they'll join us at one of the meet ups.
I don't know. No one really confirmed that that was a good day and time to go. We'll try to be there anyway, probably around 6:30 so it's not too hot but I can't promise anything since I have some family stuff going on this weekend too. Maybe we'll see some of you there. :)
I just posted a discussion in the forum but I wanted to ask the AZ group as well. We're doing some landscaping at our house and I'm having trouble finding a good list of toxic and non-toxic plants. The two trees i am looking at specifically are Purple Leaf Plum & Shamel Ash. is anyone familiar with these two trees? You can also check out my 'Poisonous Plants' discussion to comment.
Thanks,
Alice
I see plum on there, not specifically the Purple Leaf but it does say that plum is poisonous so I'll assume purple is too. I don't see Shamel Ash though.

About shaving and the heat: A Corgi's thick coat also acts as an insulator against the heat for short periods of time. As long as your dog has access to cool shade and plenty of water I wouldn't think shaving it should be needed.
You do need to exercise caution when going for walks though because it will be easy to overheat your pal even after dark or early in the morning. More info here and an infrared image of my old Corgi pal Watson laying in the sun on a 100° day.
I use a furminator on Toby daily, as part of his morning routine. Get a good handful of fur each day. I have PetSmart trim his anal area every 2 months to keep it clean back there. Sometimes it looks like a little white donut and looks kind of cute. That furminator is the best thing I've found to keep his fur under control, and really is great in the summer heat.
My wife was using the Furminator on Gromit every day when I happened to read the Furminator web page more closely. Turns out they seem to suggest not using it daily as it can irritate the skin of some dogs. Debbie has taken to using the Furminator about once a week and normal brushing every other day or so. Google "furminator skin irritation" for more stories.
Goodness knows it's hard to imagine you could brush too much fur off of a Corgi. I told someone once there's actually no dog in there, just fur all the way through from one side to the other.
Thanks, Doug. So far no problems with him getting irritated. He looks forward to it every morning, to get that extra fur off of him. Yes, there are times I think he is just a big ball of fur, wrapped around an appetite. Right now, he is just finishing up with 'blowing coat', and I'll be glad when that's over for another year.
I saw it also, but I think it got blown way out of proportion, as his 5 yr old Corgi was just fine and was not in any danger. Sometimes people just get paranoid about something like this. No big deal.
I saw this on the news last night and I felt the same way, it was blown out of proportion. They said the Corgi was in the car and appeared uncomfortable but was perfectly fine. Granted, I wouldn't leave my dog in the car in the summer for any amount of time but his Corgi was fine and I doubt he meant it any harm.
