It will last until2p-3p. Some don't get to the park until noon , please feel free to join us even if at 12:30 or 1p. Lots of Corgi friends, and fun. Easy to find - take the 101 and at the north junction with 51 go south to first exit on right (comes up fast) - Union Hills. Turn left and first stop/go light turn right on 40 street. park will be on your right - go to south end of the park, turn in and follow inside road back to the north. Lots of Corgis will be there at the north end. HOPE TO SEE YOU!
An email from WagsNWiggles - Corgi Picnic officially starts at 11a to 3:30p or so. Should make it easier for out of town corgis to get here. Sounds like a super fun day!!! Hope to see everyone!
So to summarize: this picnic is on Sunday March 20th from 11:00 to 3:30 give or take. At Paradise Valley Park, which is at 17642 N. 40th Street, Phoenix, AZ (40th & Bell)? Park Link: www.phoenix.gov/PARKS/pvcc.html
There will also be agility matches going on and oodles of vendors selling things your Corgi pal can't live without.
We'll be there on Sunday with Gromit, he's not a show dog but he'll have some family members in the ring so we want to cheer them on (and of course say hi to Gromit's breeder).
I was wondering where the dog show was being held. Thanks for the info. Harvey (a tri-colored Pembroke) from Corgi Corral (the breeders where I got Ein) is going to be showing there. Don't think I'll be able to make it though. GO HARVEY!
If anyone would like further info on MARCH 20TH picnic you should go to vickiazcatuscorgi.com for more info on what will be going on from food to games for the pups and a Easter Parade for the kids. Vicki will also have a few rescues up for adoption. This is a big undertaking is has taken on.
I/m also told she has 2 white corgis....................again......reach her at vickiazcactuscorgi.com ....it will give her a general idea how many peopl to expext so she can resrve tables....................Rosemary
Yeah, we are, cause we have our last dog training class near the park, and they are both students. Unfortunately we'll only be able to stay til 12:45, cause the class is at 1pm. Hopefully Philo behaves, cause he's not very social. Fingers crossed. See you tomorrow morning.
Hi Doug and Gromit - Did you see my pictures of the Corgi Picnic on WagsnWiggles yet? If so, can you find a way to make a link to them for Arizona Corgis so that everyone can get to see them? I still don't know how to do that yet. Thanks , Frank and Toby.
We had a grand time at the AZ Cactus Corgi Rescue picnic. Gromit went nuts for the fly-ball demo! I actually had to carry him away to get him calmed down. I've never seen him so wound up!
A few pictures from the day:
"You want me to run around like a maniac for a biscuit? Sure!"
Toby begged Frank to buy raffle tickets. It paid off when Toby won a new doggie bed.
It was good fun to meet some MyCorgi friends in person. Hopefully we can all manage a play day before the summer weather arrives.
The rest of the photos from the day are here on Flickr.
Glad you liked the pictures, Frank. It's hard to go wrong when there's a Corgi in the picture! I took a look at yours on WnW and you got some great shots too. It was a fine day!
Hi there! I'm looking for a Pembroke Corgi puppy but am having a hard time finding one in the Phoenix area. I've only been able to find one breeder. Does anyone have any recommendations?
@Agnes, my female Tegan came from a breeder in Whittman, AZ. Here is her website: http://corgicorral.webs.com/. If you check out my page your can see how gorgeous my Tegan is :)
I got my female from a breeder in Show Low.. She is going to be little.. Thats what I was looking for.. Im now looking for a female Tri.. They are hard to find and to find the right one.. I know of another breeder in Kingman www.walker4farms.com they just had a litter of 5 all boys 2 red and 3 tris.. It took me 3 yrs till I found the right one and she is great! Oh I see two in the AZ repub this week. They were red.. good luck! :)
You may not find many choices in the Phoenix only area. There is only a handful of people breeding Pems in the Phoenix area. Most good breeders produce only one or two litters per year. There is a bigger demand for Corgis than there are good Corgi pups so use caution and do your homework on the breeder and on what characteristics makes a good Corgi pup. Sam has some excellent suggestions on locating a reputable breeder and what to look for here.
There are breeders listed on the website for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America, which is the official AKC club for Pembrokes in America. If they don't have pups or have in "in the works" they can refer you to other quality breeders that may not be listed on the PWCCA website.
You could also contact Vicki at Arizona Cactus Corgi Rescue. Besides rescues, Vicki's pretty well connected in the AZ Corgi world.
Good luck on your search, finding just the right Corgi pup can be quite an adventure and finding just the right pup is well worth the effort!
Oh and watch the signs of a breeder not knowing how to spell Pembroke?? And I had one tell me in my search of a black head Tri they send me a pic of a red/white and tell me its going to turn black with age???? You do need to watch what you do.. Take your time..
Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate all the feedback. The more options to look into the better and I definitely want to know all I can.
I'm a little concerned about the docking of the tail - is there anything I should look out for when it comes to that; whether the tail should be docked so much that it's not visible, or if a little "stump" is okay? I've seen both quite often.
Agnes, the official breed standard calls for: "Tail-Docked as short as possible without being indented." Some breeders may leave a bit of a nubbie, but not much, as the lack of a tail is one of the trademark points of a Pembroke. It's only actually important if the dog is going to be shown in conformation competition, though. Outside the USA many countries now ban the docking of tails so it's getting more common to see on-line, Pembrokes that still have their tail. And some folks that have Pembrokes with nubs enjoy very much seeing the vestigial wagging of the nubbie. :-)
Like Patricia, I got my Ein girl from Corgi Corral in Whittman. I think Lindsay (the breeder) is great. I keep in contact with her via e-mails, and she loves getting updates on her puppies. She puts a lot of love and care into each litter of pups she produces. I highly recommend her... and it doesn't hurt that her pups are sooooo adorable! I mean seriously, how could I not fall in love with this face?
Hurley has torn her right ACL and is needing surgery. There is the older one, stitching the ligament. And there is a newer one with cutting the bone and placing hardware in the joint. Anybody with experience with this?
Agnes, I am picking Daisie up on Saturday from Bev Mills AKA Clearwater Corgis in Waddell, AZ. I also know that another breeder, Micki Sharp from Shennara Kennels is getting a puppy from her as well.
Daisie comes home tomorrow. It was recommended that she meet 20 dogs and 100 people in the next 4 weeks - however, being a puppy, she isn't fully vaccinated. The trainer suggested looking for nice, fully vaccinated dogs to have playdates with. Anyone interested in a puppy playdate?
That sounds like fun Samantha! I have a six and half month old corgi puppy who is very socialized and LOVES to play with dogs, kids, adults, anyone really. What part of town do you live in? And both my dogs are fully immunized, but I will tell you that I take my puppy to the dog park regularly, so I can't be certain what she has come in contact with while there.
Ah man, that's too bad. We live all the way in the NW Valley where the 101 and I-17 freeways meet, and the transmission in my car is giving me trouble.
Hi!! I am new to the group. I am all for T-shirts but how do we know when there is an event? Jax and I would love to meet local Corgi's. Is there a page with meet times or are they by invite only?
