Hi, my name is Clara. I have loved corgis since I was little. There was one where we boarded our horses when I was a kid. She used to herd them. She was so smart and playful. She loved people and seemed like the perfect size. Now I have one of my own. I couldn't ask for a better dog.
About My Corgi(s):
Brodey is my little boy. I got him from a coworker after they had a baby. Brodey craves attention. He is full of smiles and kisses. He assumes that anyone who comes to the house is there to give him love. He demands petting and wants to be on your lap. He loves to travel and does it well. He also loves the water but doesn't swim very well. His little legs get tired, and he doesn't have a rudder (tail). Grammy gave him a life jacket for Christmas. It helps. He is so handsome. I would love to clone him and give a Brodey to everyone.
Clara and Brodey, welcome. I have to agree with you that he is a handsome guy. My youngest Corgi is Brodie -- spelled just a bit different, but the name definately fits a handsome Corgi!
Thanks so much for your kind words. I am far from a photographer; thanks for the compliment. I got my 1st camera at Xmas and am trying to learn bits here and there. It is one thing that I can do with my illness. Just wish I could get Butter to really pose. Anyway, he is 9 and deserves some breaks so I don't push him.
Brody is very sweet looking; he is a Cardigan, he sort of looks like one. Sometimes i find it hard to tell.
Thanks again for your lovely comments. I was just thinking today that maybe i would remove my story because it is so personal and I don't really know if it really helps anyone. thanks for the encouragement. Joy
Wow, your kind words made me want to cry. I went back and reread it. Do you think it helps anyone? I really want to know. I just sent a message to all of our group members as to their thoughts of what we should do with the group. Only 2 of us have told our stories, maybe it is just too personal. What do you think?
Brodey is so cute and has beautiful sable coloring! Is he named after Sheriff Brodey from Jaws? At least he likes the water more than the sheriff does!
i'm fairly new to the area too, i moved here from michigan.
i really dont get to take her anywhere, shes never been around other dogs and i'm a little nervous about how she will behave.
i've done a little research and the only dog friendly beach i've been able to find is in panama city beach, over near pier park.
but i sometimes take chloe to the park across the street from my house, the have a small beach area but shes not really one to go swimming, she just barks at the water
thats so cool that he likes to play in the water. the one time i tried to take chloe in the water she freaked out wouldn't go back. she was fine as long as she could touch bottom but she really prefers to bite at the waves and bark at the water. she will occasionally stick her head in to try to get something on the bottom but shes not a big fan of the salt water.
Oh trust me, it wasn't the easiest thing to get her to wear clothes and boots at first, but now she doesn't really care. My dad and brother - like your husband - don't like it when I put clothes on her, but my excuse is that she's a girl - it's not like I'm dressing up a boy dog in pink clothes! And besides, it's not like it's an everyday occurance (it may just appear that way because most of the photos I post are of her in clothes! LOL) Brodey and Maddie definitely do look alike :) I would say they could be brother and sister, but Maddie's nowhere near Brodey's size - she's only 16 lbs!
i'm taking chloe to a day care class to socialize her a bit, and im starting her
next week. if she is doing good after a few weeks maybe we can get together for a corgi play-date sometime.
that sounds cool. i havent been out to pier park in a couple of months, i didnt even know they had concerts out there.
hopefully chloe will do well with the day care thing so we can do that some weekend.
Hi, thanks for more info on the killing of fleas. I haven't found a flea comb yet.
I can only use Sentinel because I have a disease called Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. It is very severe and I can not be exposed to any chemicals, even on a dog. So that is why i get concerned if a see a flea. WE would never be able to do anything in our home if we had an infestation. I use Sentinel faithfully, which interrupts the life cycle of the flea; it doesn't allow eggs to hatch. However, an adult flea can live its live on the dogs body and continue to bite it, not to nice. We are going to the Big City tomorrow so will have to remember to get one. Does it hurt them? Do you start at the front of the body and work back?
Thanks, I just got my flea comb today. I will be trying to tomorrow. What do these fleas really look like? The first one I caught was like an oval flat shaped disk. I didn't see a head. Maybe it wasn't even a flea? The other 3 I have hardly seen because I grab them so fast and focus on crushing my fingers together. Sounds like you 2 have quite the day of killing them LOL I'll let you know how it goes. Butter seems to scratch more around his lower sides. Thanks for all the advice...onward and forward to fleakilling yeahh
When we move it will be lock, stock (horses, dogs, cats,) and barrel. We have some land near Milton and face the idea of moving a whole fram with both excitement and dread.
Hillary has not had the opportunity to herd yet. She is not running free yet.
Hi Clara, thanks for the info re the sites. I quickly looked at the list of sites and man, there are a lot of them. Which is the one that mentioned "for budding photographers and that they have contests and stuff"? If you don't remember, that is fine. Thanks for the compliments. Joy and Poppet (yeah, I'm into nicknames too)
Brodey is soo cute! Our boy, Kai, loves to swim in the ocean. Thanks for the info regarding corgis in Hawaii. We are starting to think seriously about going through Australia or even New Zealand. I understand, as well, that the quarantine doesn't apply.
Thanks so much the the beautiful compliments and thanks for voting. I often wonder how you are doing? You said something to be once that I have thought of many times and has helped me more than you'll ever know!! Take care, Joy and Mr. Clickaroo (my new nickname for butter...the clicking sound he makes walking over the floor LOL)
yeah, i left mark and moved back to michigan.
it's a shame we never were able to get the dogs together for a play date.
chloe has a new buddy here, my moms german shepard mix...quite a pair they make. you should check out the new chatroom sometime, i'm in there quite a bit.
Hi Clara, thanks for the beautiful message. I was really touched...I just read it to my husband. I am not a trained photograher; just a beginner. I have tried to read books on photography but my concentration is bad at times and I can't make much sense of it. I just got a camera last Xmas for the 1st time so I am happy that they are turning out. You know of course, that some of the photos, like the Armani one and Butter running for Prime Minister are done from an internet program and it is easy to pop my own photos in.
What you said to me once was something like "You are courageously rebuilding your life". It really has helped me when I have down times. It is nice to know that one person realizes that that is what I am trying to do.
You and your husband are soldiers, aren't you. I always wanted to ask you where you got your courage from?
I love that version of Amazing Grace. Without Jesus Christ's Amazing Christ we wouldn't have a hope.
Is your husband home with you these days or are you in different places?
I was just looking at Brodey and he is awfully cute. He looks quite solid, like Butter. How much does he weigh?
Butter's day of reckoning is coming...(or I should say my husband's, LOL). He gained 10 pounds over 2 months. Someone has been overfeeding him. He is supposedly on a diet so I have to take him in to the Vet's this week and weigh him. He was up to 55 lbs....not good. I good weight for him is 43-37. I am looking at him and he looks solid like a little tank.
There are certainly other things one can do other than foster though that is what we need most. Most dogs do need a certain amount of veterinary care before being adopted but rarely do we take in a dog that is contagious. Go visit our web site flcorgi.com and you may contact me privately to learn more about helping corgi rescue. Spiffy is going to a wonderful foster home that is a former adopter of one of our dogs.
HI, THANK YOU FOR THE COMPLEMENT ON JONES. WE HAD HIS FIRST LITTER IN MAY. THEY WERE ALL BLACK OR SABLE HEADED TRI'S. WE ARE PLANNING ANOTHER LITTER WITH ROSE AND 1 POSSIBLY 2 OTHER FEMALES IN THE SPRING. I WILL KEEP THOSE INTERESTED INFORMED AS TO WHAT WE HAVE. I HAD TO START A LIST.
Hi I read your post about Brody and how you helped him lose the weight. Kirby is now approximately 42lbs as well and the doctor said he was overweight. I want to give my baby enough food so that he isnt hungry but I also dont want him to be obese. How did you help Brodey get through this? Also is Brodey maintaining his weight?
Good morning from your home state! About getting a corgi for your Dad, I recommend visiting the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America website: www:PWCCA.org. You will find a button for breeders and then find the button for Virginia. I know that there is a well respected breeder due north of Richmond in Ashland. Your Dad should find that convenient. There are also additional breeders listed on the site that appear to be out in the Roanoke area. Also, we have a very active Richmond corgi meet-up group with fabulous people and great corgis. You can find us at www.meetup.com. Plug in Richmond corgi on the search space. We would love to have him come for one of our frap-fests - even if he hasn't had his pup/adult delivered yet!!!! Our group stretches from Richmond, James City County and all the way down to Yorktown. You may certainly ask him to contact me, too at ngeddes311@aol.com. All the best to you and we are all excited for your Dad! Sincerely, Nan, Bear, Tasha and Linus (Heronsway Land of the Hokies!!)
