I have three teenage kids and I just love being a Mom to a Corgi also! I live in sunny Southern California with the three kids, three dogs, two cats and a most wonderful husband.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.
On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.
Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.
Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.
In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.
And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.
Thank you, I'm so excited to join this site. Tomorrow I will gather my photos. Do you know how one gets points to give gifts? Uh oh my corgi just went upside down. When that happens we all scream "upside down dog" in the house.
Thank you. It's hard not to aptly describe my dog because she's always telling you exactly what she thinks about everything in Corgi speak. One of the things that I so love about Pembrokes is that they have nearly human personalities. Turning her into a character wasn't hard at all. I almost feel like I cheated!
Hi thank you for your warm welcome. It's such a pleasure to be here. Happy is doing great he's being very protective as I go through another bad cold. He seems to really tune in to me and climbs up to cuddle when I have a bad coughing spell. He is my first and I've never had this before I am so thrilled and with Happy's love I should be healed soon.
Thanks. Poor Gunny..that's what happens to dogs that become the focal point of a Mama's affection after when the empty nest thing happens....he tolerates it to a point( the dressiing up for halloween). Tried putting a rain coat on him once and he turned catatonic. Would not move a muscle. Just stared at me. LOL He won that one.
what a beautiful family you have, touch warming story too for the elderly corgi mix. I wish you luck with him! Thank you very much for the add, needed more buddies.
I've been trying to upload photos from my phone but the upload email isn't working for me...grrr...I'll Janis bark at it then maybe the program will fall in line :)
Thank you for the welcome! Your babies are adorab! I wish I could have stoped the breader from docking my babies tail but I got to her too late. I love seeing pems with tails!
Hi Geri and Sidney! we love our HP babies. Our daughter is a huge fan and she named them, and the names totally suit them. Hermione is the smart one, always in charge. Luna is pretty ditzy. For quite a while she had one ear down, as well, which have her an "unbalanced" look : )
Thanks for the nice welcome. I enjoyed reading about Sidney, Bruce and Chester. What sweet dogs. Bruce's story is especially wonderful, and I just love the pictures of all of them!
Thanks! We haven't really named him yet, the kids call him Thunder but I don't know if that will stick. He's tri colored so we have come up with tons of names but non that seem right for him. He's quiet and calm and after 4 days finally chased a ball for them this morning...
Yes, what a sight! A Corgi herding a big black bear. Happened too fast for a picture and anyway I was scared to death! You should have seen that 300 lb animal jump our fence like a deer! It's that time of year again and they should be waking up so we should see one any day....very hungry.
Hi there ! when we found each othershe didt have a collar, so i took her i for a few days , and no one claimed her so i named he CORGI GIRL.. lol. Love you pictures.
Thanks Geri and Sidney for the welcome. We've been "lurking" for a few years enjoying daily doses of cute corgis. I thought it was time to show off my cute but very serious corg, Duncan (Dunks, Dunkie).
They don't, but the theory is a small-time breeder who just couldn't afford them anymore. They weren't chipped and no effort was made to find any loose corgis around town. They're all very friendly, but Mozi didn't know how to play when we got her. We had to teach her to be young all over again. She must have been bred at an early age.
Thanks for the welcome. :) Your dogs are so adorable!
We named him Mohandas after Mohandas Gandhi, and so far it's been a very suiting name. He's just a little saint!
I worked in a library for several years and I was getting ready to pursue my Masters in Library Science before I left for my current job. I guess that my taste in literature isn’t that weird, a bit obtuse maybe, but I never really went after literature that tried too hard to be different or weird for the sake of being weird. I like a lot of African or African themed literature like Things Fall Apart, Cry the Beloved Country, the Heart of Darkness, and the Poisonwood bible. I read a lot of stuff in German like Bertolt Brecht, a couple different versions of Faust, and the original versions of the Grimm fairytales. Unfortunately, I kind of got burnt out on reading through school and my previous career at the library, so when I do read now it tends to be non-fiction stuff like Lost White Tribes, German Idealism and the Jew, and Our Culture: What’s Left of It, and Exquiste Corpse. The latter of which tries to implicate that the famous photographer, Manray, was responsible for the Black Dahlia murder. Though as of late, I just read about Corgis non-stop.
no i do not know what he is mixed with looks like a little like a golden retriver. He is just the sweetiest doggie ever. We got him from the animal shelter, they didnt know what he was mixed with, ill try and get a picture of him up loaded
Hi I have 3 of those beautiful corgi's. The male is Harley(tri colored) and 2 females. A tri-colored female names Chili and a red/wh female named Cricket. Cricket has 2 puppies now. I do not breed often but Harley sneaked this one breeding , so only had 2 babes.
Thank you so much for the kind welcome! I'm wishing we lived in CA because it seems like you have a great support system there of other Corgi owners! :) We have nothing like that here. I'll check out the website for groups near me but only saw NE Corgis. Thanks again! :) Jill
Thank you for the welcome and the condolence. We met a couple with a corgi the other day who told us about mycorgi.com. So, I decided to join. Hopefully, in the not-to-distant future we will find another corgi who is right for our family. We have 2 dogs we've rescued - Casey is an airedale/golden retriever mix whom we found and adopted the day before his euthanasia date. And, Benny is schnauzer we found wandering in the street, he was blind, had mange, staff & yeast infections and hardly any hair. 2 years later, he's doing great. Wish he could see as we could interact and play more with him. Casey misses having Murphy to spar and play with. We have a happy dog-filled home. But, we still miss Murphy, even after almost a year. He was truly our 'baby'. I've had fun seeing all the corgis and their families here. Your Sidney has a face and expressions much like Murph did. Thanks again ... Laura

We got six inches of snow last night. Stumpy, Ruby & Lucy love it. (I get out of giving them a bath.)
I can't wait for warm weather. My buddies go in our kayaks with us.
