About My Corgi(s):
Have had R & W Pembrokes my whole life, usually in pairs. Lucy, our now 5-yr old charmer, is a delight and keeps us laughing. We purposely picked a petite girl so that we could fly with her in the passenger cabin. We had our maiden voyage CA to NY (w. Lucy in the largest sized airline approved sherpa) and we all survived––esp. me, with the help of a bloody mary!

Fast forward a year and we re-homed a tri-male puppy who would have been in the pound if we didn't intervene. He had been left alone basically 24/7 in a backyard, and was all ribs and ears. He was a handful and the most difficult corgi I had ever owned. I don't know who was more upset by the decision to keep him, Jack, my husband, or Lucy. But all things happen for a reason. He's a wonderful, gentle and loyal corgi and we're all in love with him, including Lucy, (most of the time!), haha. RR turned 1 yo this month & surprised us all by becoming quite the looker. Lucy is 5. RR is twice her size, Everyone thinks that she's the puppy. Ya gotta love happy endings!!!
I have:

    Wendy,

I get to the point where it asks for the file, choose the file, open it and it doesn't do anything except show me the orange head. I think I am computer disadvantaged. Does this fall under the government rules for handicapped? Perhaps when husband comes I can ask him. He usually finds what I missed. If he doesn't see it I'll ask Sam.

Ha! Oberon ate a plastic wrapped vegan cinnamon roll this summer. We finally got the plastic back, but it was a long weekend...and, oddly, the plasic came out in one large piece, just like it went in. We think he "Table Surfed" and just swallowed it whole (there is a reason we call him 'piggy').
  • Cindi

Hey thank you guys for the surport.  We are still really proud of our Ducks
  • paul,nancy groesser,FOX,TWINKIE

I want to thank you for the welcome note, I don't do these chat things much. But I love the corgis, so I'll try. Fox is about 25lb. We try to keep him on a good diet, but I can't resist the look he gives me, one or two chips won't hurt! I'll just run him around the yard a few more times! Thanks again.
  • Dee Dee Rypka

Thank you! I've lived with six Pembrokes, Sely, who left me in 1992, then Anny and Jessie, also gone now; I miss them so much. Currently, I have Dexter, my tricolor male, the sweetest fellow, so much like Anny, who was a sable. Zoe is his half sister, a red and white, who has a black undercoat! On Thanksgiving, I rescued a sweet little corgi, who must have been a puppy mill dog. She've very small, but very sweet. That's why her name is Melly, short for the Welsh word meaning sweet. When I picked her up, she was smelly, dirty, covered with fleas, hadn't had any shots for about 3 years, and hadn't been out of the back yard for about that long. She had also been shaved all her life She will never be shaved again. I'm not used to the site, yet, but I seem to have posted a photo of the three of them on the main page.

my tri-boy's "full" name is Bugsy G Stubbs. I wanted him to have a "tough" name. He's always gotta have a piece of the action! & "daddy" is the piano player (& videographer)

I haven't had a corgi in the house in over 30 yrs & he was worth the wait!!

  • Peggy Woods

Rafa (Ricky) is gonna be a lady-killer! Lucy has the sweetest face :)
  • Pat Grissett

Well, Ricky or Rafa.. either one is cute..and he's a sport!  Hoping you and yours have a happy and healthy 2011.
  • Kyrk & Buster

thanks! Rafa is a cool name for a pup.
  • Dee Dee Rypka

I haven't figured out everything yet, but I do like looking at everyone's corgis. I joined because I am hoping to get some help with the new one I have. Since she's been shaved for years, her coat is awful, very rough, almost spikey. I have bathed her and have had her groomed, but it will just take some time for food and supplements to work. At least she's not licking herself raw now. She's got one hotspot on her left leg that she hasn't necessarily stopped working at. I've taken her to the vet and have some Benedryl spray that seems to help. It's better when I can stay home, but have to work so that's when she gets at it. She's also a hole digger! I haven't had a hole digger since Anny died. I expected a bit more trouble between the three dogs, but so far they are getting along very well.

I had to look up Rafa Nadal! Now I know!

  • Douglas Preston

    Hello,

We live in West Hollywood but haven't heard of any corgi meetups. We'd like to!

  • Marion Hebert

What a great idea the Riccardo's and Mertz's all back together again in one house.   I hope you will have as much fun as they did......let me know if you ever take that on...I don't know if I could live with a Lucy and Ethel dog pair if they hold true to their namesakes antics......it would be a million laughs.....I keep thinking about the time Lucy and Ethel were working on the chocolate candy conveyer  belt and got it going to fast....so they stuffed chocolates into their mouths because they couldn't get them in the boxes fast enough....can just see Corgis doing that with treats.....
  • Wendt Worth Corgi's

  • Pat Grissett

We do love having two and the fact that they are litter mates makes the bond they have even stronger.  They are never more then 3 feet from each other and are so affectionate with one another.  They also entertain each other!  That is a plus for sure!
  • Priscilla Fernandez

Rafa looks so much like our baby girl quixote!!! Where is rafa from?
  • Priscilla Fernandez

thats funny that you say the name "rockstar corgi" because quixotes sire's full name is "Gilby what a rockstar" lol From poso creek corgis in bakersfield.

Quixote is also quite the character, she loves kids as well because shes very active and always wants to play. But she is also a jumper, so sometimes that scares little ones. That seems to be part of the corgi breed, they like to greet people by jumping up with two paws on you. How do your two dogs get along? Was lucy jealous at first to have a new sibling? We are planning to get corgi pup number two this coming summer or fall

  • Priscilla Fernandez

Those are just play buddies, bentley her boyfriend ... hehe they lovvve eachother! and the other one (tan and white) is milo her half brother, from the same sire but a different mother. They met for a playdate not too long ago and hit it off. We will be getting number two this summer though, im really excited! Quixote loves having someone to play with so i think it will be great for her.

  • Daniele

Hope you're well! I'm still getting the hang of it here so forgive me if I'm slow in replying :) Little Boots and Morgan say hi :))
  • Dora & Rocky

    Two corgis?! You're so lucky!
  • Bethany

Thank you! I am so excited about getting Oliver...having trouble being patient.  It's funny you say that about your daughter...I always used to pretend my name was anything BUT Bethany : )

The RickyRafanator has some competition.  Maybe give him a roll of TP and paper towels so he can catch up?

  • John Wolff

Yes,  RickyRafa  will have to be cured of his hobby.  Sounds like you'll need a professional behaviorist.  And who knows?  Maybe there is an answer to this.  Maybe there's just one thing he needs to learn.

Somehow, Al & Gwynn know what is ours and what it theirs.  Gwynnie methodically shreds her toys, but they have done remarkably little damage.

I'm gonna give them each a roll of TP on April Fools' Day.

Do you ever give them those big beef bones?  Pet stores sell them.  When we give those out, we'll have a couple of very quiet nights with no sound other than the methodical gnawing.  Something very peaceful about a dog working a bone.

  • John Wolff

This sounds hard, but a dog does have to keep up its end of the social contract.   This is not normal.  For me, it would've ceased being funny after 2 days.   I think you should find not just an animal trainer but a really pro animal behaviorist with experience in dealing with this stuff, 'cause if he can't learn his boundaries, he's gonna have real problems living with people.

We have neighbors who might not be the most dog-savvy people in the world, and they ended up with a problem animal.  The end of a long and messy saga came when that dog escaped one last time... and they said, "Amen".  That could happen to RR if he's literally more trouble than he's worth and more trouble than fun.

Our dogs have a few issues that are totally frustrating, I've no clue at all, but fortunately they're minor things I can live with.  Patricia McConnell's book (Other End of the Leash) recounted some instances wherein she was able to help people who just did not comprehend the dynamic that was going on.  Maybe you can find somebody who can figure this one out.  Good luck!

  • John Wolff

This must be awful for you.  I can tell he's a real sweetie without a malicious bone in his body.  I'm praying you can find a solution.  He looks like such an adorable dog.

Uh... maybe you could reupholster your entire home in Kevlar...?

  • John Wolff

So Lucy's from Nebriowa?  I just dug out Al's pedigree for the first time.  He's got some Nebriowa (Double Exposure is both his maternal and paternal great-granddaddy, and a Vanguard Centerline in there).  So Al, Gwynnie and Lucy are probably related more closely than most corgis.
  • John Wolff

Yup, that's him.  Flash (Double Exposure) is Al's great-grandsire on BOTH maternal and paternal lines, so as close as his great-grandsire.  Al and Lucy are distant cousins.  Gwynnie too.

I work in a medical genetics lab.  I'm used to Western human pedigrees.  These dog pedigrees look like a drunken electrician's wiring diagrams!

Al tells The RafaRickinator to straighten up and fly right.

  • John Wolff

I took that pic of me & Al in the tent, at arm's lentth, so it's kinda fake.  We were alone.  But I CAN use him as a pillow!  Someday, I'll have somebody document the Two-Dog-Night-with-Only-One technique:  two snouts sticking out of a mummy bag.
  • Jane Christensen

OK Wendy...what did I miss about Rafa????
  • John Wolff

Yeah, the Rafanator is like your friends' children; you get to enjoy them but seldom see the tantrums...
  • Jane Christensen

Wendy...I'm sorry sorry for you and Ricky...I hope a trainer does the trick! I'll send positive thoughts your way for a new and well behaved Ricky!!!!
  • Jane Christensen

ps...I will write a longer message later... have to be to work early in the am:(
  • John Wolff

Al's got Nebriowa Double Exposure, Blossom Dearie and Vangard Centerline.  So Lucy's family, she gets to sleep on the bed when she comes visit.

This is making me want to go to a corgi show sometime.  Someday I'm gonna do a parody dog-show pic of Al or Gwynn on a mountaintop, all stacked, with a ribbon made of survey tape and a knotted bootlace for a show-leash.

  • John Wolff

20 years ago, if anybody suggested I'd one day be walking around the neighborhood with a fannypack full of dog poop and even thinking about a dog show, I'd have asked them if they had anymore of that good stuff they were smoking.  We've done a few corgi group things that were fun -- herding trials, and there's a summer party -- all those corgis together -- Lori doesn't think Al could handle the big dog-pack thing though (Gwynnie has a faintly piratical scar on her snout from the last one).  Sure fun though.
  • John Wolff

Great, I sure hope RickiRafa can be deterred from a life of crime.  He reminds me from some kids I knew in my mercifully short career as a middle/Jr. high school teacher, one of whom -- perhaps the one kid I most never wanted to see ever again -- I encountered a year or so later while subbing at the high school, and he had somehow, miraculously, grown up!!

I wish you success, else you may have to send him off to Wolffie's Wilderness Boot Camp for Wayward Corgis.

  • John Wolff

7th-9th graders are the worst (that's when I was getting into trouble).  They should just wipe them all out, except that makes the future of the species problematic.  Maybe humanity would be better off without teenagers.  Al went through a phase where he'd figured out that he did not, in fact, have to come when I called him inside, and that I could not catch him, and he DELIGHTED in this game;  I was utterly humiliated, helpless.  He ran circles around me, making personal remarks.  And then eventually it all just stopped... but not before I'd gotten out my imaginary shotgun.

I must add that some of my best, as well as my worst experiences were in classrooms.

  • Jane Christensen

Wendy...talking about growling...our last pup that we still have was growling and barking at the coyotes the other night...good thing he was in the fence as he might have tried running out of the yard after them...he has no idea and we never know exactly how close /far they are:(

Maybe little Ricky wants a Doberman to play with!

  • John Wolff

Is that Doug Klassen of Gromit 7 Doug who turned you on to the Rafanator?

Where did this lovable little monster come from?  Same place as Experiment 626 (if you've not seen Lilo & Stitch, please do so, charming, only Disney movie I've ever liked)?

RR truly is a gorgeous dog.

  • Bev Levy

Gee, If you were not so far away I would drop our dobe off to you! Misty ate a hole in my bedspread the other night so she and Raf might have a few things in common. She has gone 6 months not eating anything since we started letting her sleep in our room at night instead of her kennel. Agh, Never planned on a 70 lb dog with issues at this time in my life and my husband is still a little annoyed about her residency.
  • John Wolff

Go to the Kodak website; they have a really good tutorial on photography.  I taught photography in Jr. High School; their "10 Top Tips" was the core of the curriculum.  #1 is simply, "Get Close!" (easy to do when you can crop pics so easily on computer).  Photoeditors all have an auto-correction button for exposure/contrast (still best to do it right the first time).  Rule of Thirds.  You can become a better-than-95% photographer with about an hour's study.  You already know one trick with the dogs:  get your subject engaged in something.

Helps to have supercute dogs, too.

  • John Wolff

Lost my comment to a glitch. Rafa, a mystery. Al & Gwynn have been painless; maybe this shows what careful breeding and puppy-rearing is worth. Only objectionable corgis I've met were rescues; who knows their experiences? Carrie Hale's (Haley) litters were in her dining room. Rafa is gorgeous, I hope he makes the cut. Maybe there is just one thing he needs to learn.
You ABSOLUTELY MUST see Lilo & Stitch. Stitch (Experiment 626) is a dog, also an extraterrestrial madman's illegal genetic experiment bioengineered with superhuman powers and one overriding instinct: to destroy everything it touches!!! Stitch & Rafa were made for each other. I think Pixar Studios was somewhat independent from Disney; it's not free of Disney's usual faults but I've watched it several times.
If you succeed in civilizing The Creature, you should put some time and thought into a thorough post of the experience.
How old was he when you got him? How old is he now? Is this just adolescent madness (Al went through a teenager phase)?
  • steve ruggles and Ziggy

    Hi Lucy,

Just saw a few comments.   Sorry I haven't responded but I'm not quite sure how his "My Corgi.com" works . . . apparently.  I don't even remember making the "Thalidimide" comment but sounds like me.

Ziggy is doing great, I'm appreciating her more and more as she gets a bit older.  She had very big paws to fill from my last Corgi.  Glad to see the publicity they're getting from the Governor's house AND the new movie with Colin Firth and Jeffrey Rush.

Take care.  Rafa is a good looking Pembroke, that's for sure.

  • Bev Levy

Yes Wendy I think our husband's would get along great! The advantage I have is that Misty is 7 years old. Hmm maybe that is not an advantage since she probably is not going to improve. I am beginning to wonder what my bedspread would look like with appliques... remember those? My disadvantage is that she is very tall and 70 lbs!
  • John Wolff

RR is a gorgeous corgi.  I suspect his misbehavin' results from nurture, not Nature.

Many of the finest-looking, best-behaved dogs I see in the neighborhood are from the pound.  What's been learned can sometimes be unlearned, deleted, overwritten.

  • John Wolff

    He's under 2?

Nike Jr. 7" childrens' basketball.  Or a volleyball.  And a large fenced enclosure.

  • John Wolff

It's called a "paw-o-graph".  Cheap dog trick:  instead of commanding, "shake", you say, "May I have your paw-o-graph?"
  • John Wolff

Rookie sure looks like a big cuddly fellow.

  • John Wolff

Thanks, Wendy.  Now Gwynnie & Al are demanding a pool.

It looks like the new puppy passed muster with Rookie & Maggie.

Now Gwynnie & Al want a baby, too.  I told them they're 22 years late.

  • John Wolff

Looking at the photo but forgetting their names, I was speculating that Dylan and Emily might be monozygotic twins (presumably this occurs on canines).  We were not allowed to pick Al.  Carrie Hale picked him for us.  She believe she can make some judgement about a pup's personality fit with prospective owners.  We asked for a male and not one of the fluffies, but we didn't know who we'd be getting until she came to our home with Al.  I sometimes wonder if she didn't consider how cool Gwynnie & Al would look together.

I admire the careful breeders' dedication to the breed, but I have to say that some of the best dogs I see in the neighborhood are mutts from the pound.  Geneticists talk about "hybrid vigor", and it is a real phenomenon.

Here's a mix that's close to my "fantasy dog", border collie x Cardigan:

  • LaVerne & Shirley

Oh.....lol. I didnt notice. I thought you were addressing LaVerne herself.  She has a better attention span than I do afterall. Thank you for the nice comments Wendy! My name is Tracey.  I love your pups as well! What did we ever do BC? ( Before Corgis.....lol )
