About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

    Hello Geri & Sidney,

Thank you so much for welcome words! Just add couple photos of Ben made at 4 months and 7 months his age...It is not hard to fing Corgi right now in Moscow, mostly from UK and Finland breeding houses, also about 10 local breeders. The main problem to find the vet with good knowledge of Corgi. With food also not a problem - we are using right now Pro Pac Holistic, in puppy age used Pro Pac Puppy High Performance..

Thanks for the welcome, Geri & Sidney :) We're excited to see another tailed Pembroke!

Your Sydney is one handsome dude. His facial markings are just like our Penney's.

I have to run my finger up that stripe, (is it called a blaze?) in the middle of her face.

Frodo has a real wide stripe. God started a stripe on Roxy but apparently ran out of paint.

  • Patricia and corgi Layla

Hi Geri,  Thank you for the nice welcome!  Your Sidney is absolutely gorgeous and has well defined markings. I will have to verify if my dog has hip dysplasia as well.  She limps once in a while.  Have you heard about glucosamine for dogs?
  • LA Stewart

Thanks for the MyCorgi Welcome.  I am glad to hear from another person who does nursing homes.  At first I thought it would be depressing.  Some seniors say things that make me sad, especially the lady that told me she had a dog before she went in the nursing home and that no one would tell her where it is now.  Very sad. However, most people are so happy to see the dogs and I have met some really cool residence.

Thank you for the welcome!  We will be visiting a breeder soon (Diana Nett) to see about reserving a puppy!  I am heading for Corgi-land!  Hopefully I will be able to join your group one day at a gathering.  For now...I'm going to do all the research and preparation I need to be the best Corgi owner I can be.  I'll take all the advice I can get!!!

    Hi Geri & Sidney,

Thank you for the welcome. My husband and I are hoping to take Max & Rosie to a Meet-Up one day. He works in retail so his days off haven't been on a Meet-Up day. We will get there one day.

  • Emily Journy

Thanks for the welcome!! Trying to figure this thing out, so I hopefully can get Wrigley to meet up with some other corgis in Atlanta!
  • Amie Jo

Thanks for the welcome!  I love meeting and talking with other corgi lovers.  Still trying to figure this whole thing out, but one thing I know for sure...I will never get tired of looking and everyone's cute corgis!
  • Samantha Hassler

Thank you! I have been thinking Ellie would be a wonderful therapy dog but I don't know where to look to have her trained, any suggestions? I would love for her to become a therapy dog but I have also been thinking of having her herd because it is so natural for her to herd the cats. We have a friend who has some sheep and I wanted to take her out there just to see her reaction and then go from there.

Every day is a new adventure. Right now we're working on sitting and staying when we get to a street corner and not eating dragon flies or baby birds.

I don't think there is a meet up for Corgis in  Austin, Tx. But if you use this link you can create your own Corgi meet up.http://www.meetup.com/create/:// Hope this helps:):)

  • Sandy Stickney

Thank you!  My husband and I are fairly new corgi fans, but we are now fans for life.

I see that you are in San Diego County.  San Diego is one of my favorite places to visit.

I hope that all works out well with Sidney & his hip problems.  I worry about our corgis and their backs, as it is impossible to keep them off the bed and couches, and I know it's not good for them to do so much jumping.

  • Leslie Chalmers Gravel

Thanks for the welcome Geri and Sidney!! Our last dog, a dachshund/jack russell/corgi mix, was named Sydni (female). She was the dog by which all other dogs will be measured, an amazing pup we got as a rescue. We lost her just about a year ago (August 17th)--hardest day of my life. We still miss her, but Blossom, our adorable little Pembroke, and Maisy, a doxie/beagle/jack mix, sure ease the pain. We'll be thinking of your Sidney with his hip problems. Do you know about Eddie's Wheels? They are a wonderful company that makes wheels for dogs to get around. Just met a Corgi with Eddie's wheels. The company is right in the area, a a town called Shelburne Falls, MA, next town over from us. Let me know if you want information.
