Knowing my hiking habits, our breeder was quite firm with me: "No big physical challenges until 1 y.o." The reason being mostly growth-plate injury, I think -- avoid big downward leaps; impacts might injure the cartilage growth plates in the long bones, principally the wrists. The carpet is good; if you have smooth floors, provided nonskid throw rugs at takeoff and landing zones.
I wouldn't think you could really over-walk a puppy with gentle, casual walking. I'd think it's the impacts you want to avoid, but I don't know. I never took either dog hiking until 1 y.o., but I'm sure Al was going multiple miles around the neighborhood when he was quite young. Discourage leaps off furniture, down long stairways.
You're going to have plenty of time with that dog, no need to be impatient.
I do like mythical/astronomical names. Our first was Sirius (Orion's big dog).
Spend a lot of time and effort on training now, it will pay off handsomely, This cannot be overemphasized.
