About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

OOPS----I hit the wrong button and deleted the post (okay, okay; so I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer   :-0  ).  Thank you for the welcome.  Today is such a nice day that the park is just beckoning--Travis loves playing with birds.  He's quite the little runner and his favorite game with me is keep away--he's always wearing me out!  Thanks again and PEACE!

Thank you for the welcome, Geri and Sidney.

Thought I'd give you an update.  Turns out Bosco has torn ligaments in both knees that are causing the lameness.  Tests did show he also has a bit of arthritis and mild hip dysplasia as well, but it's his knees that are his main problem.  So now have to get back with our regular vet to discuss surgical ($8K+) and/or non-surgical options.....

  • Becky, Sebastian and others

His name is Sebastian, I call him Seabass for short. I had him and my Shima at the vet the other day and a guy was there with a big German Shepherd and said "that dog is really intelligent!"  I looked at Chloe, the Shima, because truth be told, Sebastian looks kind of goofy but he meant Sebastian.  He is very smart, but looks funny for a cardigan. I'll post a pic.  A lot of people think he is a mixed breed.

  • Leigh-Anna Erin Terry

Actually Meeko didn't originally come from the Disney movie, lol, before we got him we were going to name him Neko, but then it evolved into Meeko and went with that.. then a couple days later, we realized Meeko was the Racoon in the movie, lol

I've gone to Kindred Spirits for the last 4 years-off and on. Both Gracie and Pudge( my corgi that just died) were trained there. In fact, I'm going to the drop in class tomorrow night because Gracie and I need some training! Especially with the new puppy coming on Sat. I'll be taking Rooney to classes in a few weeks! I want to train her for pet therapy also!

thank you for the warm welcome!! (: i must say, sidney is quite the looker himself!! my boyfriend and i also have three cats and currently only one corgi baby. we also have another one on the way from a breeder that doesnt believe in docking tails, so we will also have a tailed corgi as well!!

i wanted to ask you some advice on how you got your cats to get along with your dogs, im having a rough time (although it has only been 3 days) trying to introduce my cats and dog. she just keeps barking at them, and it only scares them and makes things worse ):

  • Leung Vivian

Tks, Goldy is recovering quite well....not sure if the weather here in Singapore is difficult for her, she is not willing to walk outside lately, just roaming at the entrance area of the building, but play a lot at home (actually asked me to play with her....I'm quite tired!)...ha...ha!

  • Julia Kirby

    Thank you for the welcome!

  • Samantha

My corgi's name is Shelby as the mustang, didn't want to give her a sissy name :) i know it sounds weird but giving my puppy a strong name is what i wanted and she fills her name pretty well :)

thank you for the welcome comment!

  • Connie

Thanks! Your corgi has a tail! I can't decide if they're cuter with or without it so I've decided they're cute either way.

  • patti paul

    Hi,

I love the picture and the description- Low Riders!!  You must live in CA.-we live in Mn.

I am not real good with staying in contact by a facebook venue. I haven't really gotten into it.

I will try to stay in touch and will probably only contact you with questions and staying in touch. I hope that is ok with you.

Gracie seems to love everyone. She is 4 months old now and changing so fast.Thank you for your help.

    Warmly,

    Patti and Greg

Where did you take the therapy classes?

  • liane, emi, and helix!

at last, my corgi and cats are finally getting along!! thank goodness! i was almost about to give up hope, but knowing that it is possible or them to get along i persevered! thanks for the advice! knowing that sidney and your cats can get along really helped give me a peace of mind that it is possible  ! haha

  • Jody

We are thinking Archie. We like the AR sound and the ie on the end has a cute sound too.  Still open minded though.
  • patti paul

    Good Morning,

    How are you?

I have an appt. with a local nursing home that will allow Gracie in to visit without being a certified therapy dog. Any suggestions on how to have this go smoothly?

    How old is your Corgi?

    thanks

    Patti
