About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

Hi Geri and Sidney! Thanks so very much for being here!! Our girl's name is Maggie. She goes by many names though, like Princess Margaret, or Princess Maggie, or Maggamuffin, or the Muflinator. She's our first Corgi and we love her so much. She's still at the vet's right now. We have to leave the state for work for 8 days and they are going to board her for us. We miss her so much already. My sister lives with us and watches our place while we travel and she has just been diagnosed with colon cancer. She has surgery on October 10th. My brother has moved in too, and will help her with our place while we are gone. Thanks for listening!!

  • Doug Jackfert

His name is Cooper. He is 3 yearss old and we have had him for about 4 months. He is driving my wife crazy because all of our other dogs latched onto me. Cooper follows her everywhere in the house, sits at the door when she goes out to smoke etc.

  • Andrea & Gracie

Thanks so much -- very nice to meet you, Geri & Sidney! (and hello to Bruce & Chester too!)

  • Puzzle & Sparky

Thanks! His name is Puzzle. Kao would be my/his/our last name.

How do you and Sidney like the SD area? We almost moved out there.

  • Puzzle & Sparky

I visited once over the summer and your 90 degree days felt wonderful compared to Houston's soggy summer. Sidney is very handsome, especially with that bushy tail. I hope his hip isn't troubling him too much.

Please pass along to greeting from my corgi (currently pawing my keyboard) to Sidney, Bruce, and Chester.

  • Sheldon Cooper the Smelly Pooper

Thank you so much for the nice message :) I always love seeing pems with tails, and I'm glad Marco has his! I wish less corgis were docked, but that's a whole other issue. I just saw that Sidney has HD, I'm really sorry to hear that, a friend of mine has a German Shepherd with it too, it really is a horrible thing.

  • Rebecca Davis

Thank you for the warm welcome! Your babies are beautiful!!!

  • Cynthia & Molly

Thank for your welcoming comment Geri! Sideny is such a babe with her tail! :)

  • Cynthia & Molly

I'm sorry, my mistake haha. I should have thought Sidney was a boys name because it's spelled differently. Oh, I love his blaze! So perfect!! :D

  • Morgan Loraine

    Thank you for the welcome!
  • Xebulynn Jei Lindgren

It does get hot here and I've thought about getting those little booties for his feet because I want to be able to take him hiking one day (I just don't know if it's safe to take him, I've been doing a little bit of research on it that's how I found this site) and I don't want his feet to get burned because my feet get burned sometimes even when I'm wearing shoes, but to answer your question I usually take him on a short walk in the morning and longer walks at night after the sun goes down and it's cooled off.(:

  • Xebulynn Jei Lindgren

Yea I want to take him to red rock canyon and take him on the easier trails to see how well he does. I read somewhere though that since he is under a year old hikinh can hurt his joints and such, I'm going to play it safe but I just wanted to know if you knew anything about that. He loves going out and doing new things and I hate leaving him at home I want to be able to take him camping as well. I already know he loves water, which is wonderful.(:

    Hi Geri and Sidney,

Thanks for your warm welcome, and thanks a lot for the nice compliment about Jordi. He sure is very handzame and he has a terrific character. I have been very lucky to find a dog like him; He was almost 1,5 year when I bought him and it was love on first sight! Thankyou for the suggestion of adding fish oil to his nurriture. Can I use the same kind people use or is there a special veterinarian fish oil? It's great to see all kind of Pembrokes here; they all are so different, thats so cute!

How is Sidyney doing after his surgery in September? Is the prognose a completely recovery? I hope so! I notice you have three dogs. That's full house, and I think you will really enjoy it. Thanks again for your welcome.

  • Christina keller

    Thank you!!

  • Janice, Fiyero and Elphie

Yes, we named him Fiyero after falling in love with the musical "Wicked". We are thinking on adding an Elphaba to the family soon. My last two corgis that we lost earlier this year were named for characters in "Guys and Dolls", Obadiah Syke Masterson (Obie), and Ever-lovin Adelaide (Addie) :)

Hi there. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the disease. I haven't seen pets with that at my hospital. Wish I had more to offer. I will talk to my vets at work as well and see what I can dig up.
