Yoda wants to join also and this will be his first time too. Has anyone tried the Sugar Land dog park? Is this a good park? I think a dog park with a lot of shades would be great for everyone's corgis.
I can't wait to meet all the new corgis and their peeps. I have never been to the Sugarland Memorial Park but it looks nice. It sounds like there is a nice pond too but it might be in the big dog area. I took Daisy to the Independence Dog Park in Pearland and there were no dogs in the little dog section so I threw her in with the big fellas. :) (I didn't really throw her.) There were some BIG dogs too! She actually did pretty well and didn't bark as much. Maybe she was afraid to tell off the big dogs! Anyway, Sugarland is fine with me. If anyone has been there let us know how it is.
Ok, hubby & I scouted the Sugar Land park. We went when it first opened & were a little disappointed because Houston has some pretty awesome parks. We thought we would check it out since we haven't been back. There have been improvements but there is still a pretty big lack of shade & there is no pond in the small dog park. In the summer months shade is pretty important to us because we've found if we bring our lawn chairs & sit in the shade other owners will gravitate toward that area & we can sit & relax while the dogs play. I would love to hear suggestions on parks with big shade trees (it's disappointing that most were clear cut so there aren't large trees). I know Congressman Bill Archer has big shade trees but it might be too far for some. We are open to other ares. Does anyone know if the Woodlands parks have good shade?
The dog park on Bay Area Blvd. in Pasadena may be what we want. The Houston Area Dog park site says it has "lots of shade" I have been to that park years ago before they put in a dog park and it does have lots of trees.
We're definitely up for the Pasadena dog park, it would give those from the opposite side a town to go to one closer to home. My goal has always been to rotate parks!
I just posted some highlights from the 5-28 meetup in the discussion above titled "Meetup pictures". If you want to see more there is a link to my flikr photostream at the bottom of the post :)
We just got back from the Bay Area dog park and it has tons of trees for shade. We also met two corgis there and encouraged their owners to join MyCorgi.com so they could meet up with us in 2 weeks. There was no pond but all the nice shade will make up for it. I also read on a local dog site that there are some nearby eateries that are dog friendly if you eat on the patio. Here is the link: http://www.bark9.com/?Eateries If you go to one I would definitely call first. I vote for Bay Area too!
Thanks again Kara for scouting! Looks like it's 3 votes for Bay Area & 1 for Sugar Land. Put in your vote and I'll send out a group message later in the week. Does 9:00 work for everyone or would you guys prefer 8:30? Again, I am not a dictator, we will conform to what the majority votes on :)
I have been so busy and I had a last minute trip the Rio Grande Valley the weekend we had planned last time. I have not seen the bay area dog park, but I will vote for any place that has a pond for the small dogs. a water hole for the corgs in this heat is a must, time 9:00 for me, and date of the 25th is also great. Another note, I will be taking my two crogs to the dog park off westpark and 610/59 area this Saturday from 9 - until they get tired. Looking forward to the 25th.
@ Hector, I wish we could have met you this morning at Danny Jackson. I was not far from there but stuck in a training seminar. I daydreamed through most of it about frolicking corgis in the park. Thanks for the corgiaddict.com site. I can never get enough of those cute corgi pics!
Are there any upcoming meet ups? We would definitely love to join and bring Boudreaux! we will organize one in a few weeks if anyone is interested! Thanks guys and corgs!
passed on this website to a fellow corgi owner I met at the dog park. she has the cutest runt corgi I have ever seen, so small (half the size of radar) but full of life. the dog was way too cute.

Is that right? I'm a total newbie to the area. Thank you so much for scouting the area, Kara, Pudge appreciates the shade!!
Pudge just finished his puppy shots and got his rabies/bordatella series. So he's ready to play with other legless dogs, he just might not have his manners yet.
was trying to get some more information about the Bay Area park for Saturday's meet up. Are there any regulations about neutering/spaying? Johann's surgery isnt for another 3 weeks, but he's only about 5 months old. Otherwise, he's up to date on all his DHLPP, rabies, and bordetella.
There is no restriction on spaying and neutering but dogs in heat are not allowed. I can imagine what kind of chaos that would create (even for the neutered fellas)! I can't wait to meet Johann! :) Here is a link to the rules I found: http://www.hctx.net/CmpDocuments/2/Park%20Rules/BayAreaDogParkRules...
We can't make it this weekend, but Cooper and I will be at Danny Jackson (near 59 and 610) on the 30th at around 7pm to celebrate him getting his stitches out that afternoon if anyone wants to meet up!
We might be coming tomorrow- I'm not sure because of the drive. It's over an hour each way for us... maybe next time we can meet inside the loop somewhere. Which parks do you all go to in central Houston?
It's an hour each way for us too, but if you look back at previous messages you'll see we've met at a variety of locations. Last month was Danny Jackson which seems to be the most popular. I am just trying to be fair to members, by rotating meetup locations. If you have a preference please post for next month - majority vote wins.
We had a great time today! We both agreed that little Pudge stole the show! So cute. I created an album of pictures so you guys can just go to my profile and see them.
I love pudge as a name b/c he looks like the after affect of me with Fudge.... Pudge. Such a cute puppy. Loved meeting you and look forward to one day seeing my pup playing with others in further meet ups!
and yes, pudge was the cutest fuzball, I know he had so much fun, b/c he must have picked up all the "burrs" in the park, the poor thing. Favorite thing.. watching him waddle, cutest thing ever.
YEAH CARDIGANS! we need moar cardis. MOAR. only time we ever interacted with cardis was at the recent national Cardigan specialty. loves them!
i spent the whole ride home picking burrs out of his butt, arms, legs, belly... I think we had about 15 total. he just picks those things up everywhere. i wish i knew what tree or entity made them so we could avoid it!!
I know- we were sad that we didn't come. It's not the length of the drive so much as it is the gas... just gave up a nice chunk of change for my textbooks :\ but next time we will be there.. rain, shine, gas money, or no gas money :P saw some of the pictures that JanRich posted, looked like you guys had a blast! we are looking forward to meeting you guys next month! :)
I have been on OCD, CorgiAddict, and Daily Corgi for so long, I am jealous I didn't get to meet Pudge this weekend. Looks like you guys had a good time though, Spencer and I will definitely be making the next meetup.
I vote for the 30th only because I am suppose to work on the 23rd, maybe. I won't know until the day before so I may be there! Bill Archer is fine with me. Never been there.
We went to bill archer park today, they have a small dog section with a water area and a shaded awning by the lake, they provide poop bags, and a fountain for you and the shorties. Also, something I liked a lot was the shower area, a little place to spray or bath your pup before loading up a dirty dog. Very nice.
Bill Archer sounds great! When I went to get directions I checked the satellite view and I was sold when I saw the bone shaped ponds. I am looking forward to it!
thought i would share this thread here too. i'm formerly from orange county texas. anyhow a friend of mine sent me a link about this poor little corgi mix in houston. so i made a thread here. i feel so bad for the little guy.
