Arizona Corgis!

A group for all of us Arizonan corgi lovers and anyone that wants to join!
  • Alice

I was thinking about creating an Arizona group myself. Great idea!
  • Abbea and Vivi

Welcome and thanks for joining! Hopefully we can round up everyone from Arizona and form a meetup someday!
  • Pa'ani

We have to organize a meet! Pa'ani would love to meet a couple of friends his size!
  • Abbea and Vivi

Welcome Pa'ani! Thanks for joining! This is exciting.. :)
  • Abbea and Vivi

Alice has a Cardigan. :) Welcome!
  • Mike and Tabby

Hello! We are Arizona Corgi owners from Tucson, Arizona. We have a tri-color baby Pem named Athena and a 2 year old red and white named Buttercup.
  • Alice

Yay, we're not the only Cardigan owner in Az! I love the Pems but you've got to have your Cardis too. :)
  • Miyuki

where in Arizona is everyone? Would everyone like to get together to meet?
  • Miyuki

We're in Tucson. Just moved here and would love to meet more Corgi owners :-)
  • Alice

We're in Scottsdale. I think that would be fun to organize a meet up!
  • Alice

We live in an apartment so Finnigan doesn't have a yard to lounge in. When we are outside though, he has no problem coming back in as long as that's where we are going. He just wants to be where ever we are. :)
  • Michelle K. Silver

Hi! I'm new to the site and group. Corky lives in northeastern Arizona on the Navajo Nation in Window Rock. Corky has a fur-buddy Blue Heeler name Jed and they chase each other in a one-acre yard. When it snowed 6 inches three weeks ago, Corky's legs were covered and looked like he was gliding on top of the snow...lol!
  • Abbea and Vivi

Wow! I'm glad I made this group. There are more people from Arizona than I thought!

I live in Glendale near the northwest bend of Loop 101.
  • Alice

My family used to have an Australian Shepherd. She was the best dog we had. She passed away with cancer at 7 years old. I love the herding breeds. They have such great personalities.
  • Abbea and Vivi

So, I still haven't really been able to pick a name for my future Corgi.. Any ideas? I like Gurwin/Gerwin but my husband says it's hard for him to pronounce. It's a Welsh name meaning fair love. I was also thinking of Arthur, meaning bear. My husband really wants to name him Porgy (like Georgy Porgy Puddin' Pie the nursery rhyme) but I had a goldfish named Georgy Porgy and he met a sad end two years ago! Jumped out of his bowl only to dry up and still be barely alive when I found him. I put him back in where he hung onto life until his last gulp of water a few minutes later. :(

Grace is new to Arizona but we are not. We got her in Colorado because we could not find any corgis in Arizona. I saw a breeder in bagdad but nothing in the Phoenix area. Maybe it was just the timing but I was very surprised! I am interested in showing Grace and was wondering if anyone had information on confirmation shows in Arizona? Not too interested in traveling the united states to show her. If you know let me know:)
  • Kristi Reckard

Okay! Here is grace. finally! Had to go buy a new camera. I thought the puppy was expensive! Now I keep spending more money! Just like the kids I guess:)
  • Alice

Cheysuli Cardigans are beautiful but theere is a very long waiting list. It's usually about 2 years long. Jennifer is great though. I often emailed her when I had questions until I found this site . Now I don't have to bug Jennifer, I can just bug all of you guys. :)

Pems are definitely easier to find. Pet stores even sell them now though I would recomend going through a breeder.
  • Abbea and Vivi

Well, Tucker is a cute name and I like the character behind it, but it seems like one of those names that a lot of Pembrokes would have because of the book. I sort of want a name that's unique, preferably a human name, and has a comical sound to it to match the corgi's personality. I'm asking for too much aren't I..?
  • Abbea and Vivi

I know what you mean.. Haha does that mean celebrities name their kids like pets...?
  • Abbea and Vivi

I wouldn't be surprised if a celebrity named their kid "Fido" or "Rover." Haha, well, at least celebrity baby names are creative and unique I guess. It's better than everyone being named one of like ten different names. If no one branched out then that's probably how it would be hehe. It's the same with pet names I guess. A while ago it was considered strange to have a human name for a pet.

Delete Comment Are you a Lord of the Rings Fan? Being that Corgis are short like Hobits, I thought it would be cute to give him a Hobit name like Bilbo, Frodo or Pippin.

It's funny what a big deal we make out of choosing a name for our pets. I had Finnigan's name picked out years before we got him. :)
  • Alice

Not sure why it says "delete comment" before my last comment...
    just ignore that part. :)
  • Abbea and Vivi

I do like Lord of the Rings and one of those names would be cute, but I'm not a big enough fan... Actually, when I was little, I had a stuffed "glow lion" doll with a hard plastic head that lit up, and his hair was really curly like a hobbit so I named him Bilbo Bobbins, lol. I thought the character's name was Bobbins at that time, not Baggins. I was like 5 or 6 and I watched that animated Hobbit all the time.
  • Alice

I watched that too when I was little. :) That's the first I had heard if LOTR. I'm not a giant fan either but I do enjoy the story and I like some of the names.

What about a Welsh name like:

Heddwyn - Friend of peace and blessings
    or
    Mabon - Son

Something a little easier for your husband to pronounce. :)
  • Abbea and Vivi

Hmm... I don't know.. How about Llewelyn? It looks hard to pronounce but it's just like "Loo-a-lin" I think. Lew or Lewy for short. It's a Welsh name meaning leader or lion-like. I have a feeling my husband won't like it.. Lol. :/
  • Alice

I like the idea of Lewy for short but the full name kind of makes me think of the girls name Lou Ellen. :)

Here's a good one, Pantalaimon (Pan-ta-lymon). It is from the book The Golden Compass. I don't know if you are familiar with it (great story) but I think it's a great name and you could call him Pan (like the mythical God) for short. The name Pantalaimon means merciful shepherd.
  • Abbea and Vivi

Hmm, yeah it does kind of remind me of a girl's name. :P I've never read the book or seen the movie so I don't know... Calling him Pan would make me think of Dragonball GT. Man I'm too picky. Oh well, I'll think of something. We all know I have plenty of time.

Here were some other names I wrote down a while ago:

Griffith (fierce, strong warrior), Griffin (strong in faith), Vonn (small), Rowan (red)

But I don't really like all of those as much as I should either..
