One more time...what is a sable?

Hi, I've been reading over the comments and I'm sorry if this is redundant, but what exactly constitutes a sable? Is it red and white with a mixture of black, but not enough black to be a tri? My Heidi only has black on the end of her muzzle, but she was advertised as sable. Her coat IS lightening…
