I am a twenty-something year old born and raised and currently live in San Francisco, California. I am a first-time dog owner and I am a mommy to one (and my first) male Pembroke Welsh Corgi by the name of Bailey...
Bailey was born in Northern California on January 21st, 2008 (an Aquarius - according to doggy astrology, Bailey will be social, a free spirit, quirky, smart, and maybe a rebel!!!). His mommy was a red-headed tri-colored corgi and his daddy Cooper was a red and white corgi. Bailey's fur is much more golden than an ordinary red/white. He gives credit to his parents for that.
Bailey came home on 3/15/08, on a lovely 3 hour drive from Corning, CA. I still remember that day vividly!
Bailey loves meaty treats, the smell of pizza or any other baked carbohydrates (example: french bread!!) , stuffed animals with squeakers, squeaky balls, tug-o-war, wrestling, drinking water, bossing puppies around, peeing on other dogs' poop, doing tricks, going to the dogpark, meeting new people, learning new tricks, exploring, sleeping, and barking too.
Bailey is VERY social and expects every moving thing within a 20 feet radius to say hello to him. If you do not, he will jump on you and insist you pet him. He loves affection from strangers but appears to be embarassed if I display affection to him in public. With dogs, he loves to wrestle, and chase ball-crazy dogs who chase balls. He also loves interuppting picnics at the park, rolling in who-knows-what, and swimming (he's the cutest swimmer too).
I know u will have lots of fun with him once he joins your household. There's never a dull moment with a Corgi in the house...I should know cos I have had 2 Corgis and currantly with my 3rd Corgi who's almost 20 months old! ;o)
LOL. I somehow managed to get Emmy to associate posing pretty for the camera with yummy treats. (She needed quite a bit of bribery in the beginning!) Now when she sees the camera in my hand she turns on the charm! Try keeping some tatsy goodies near by when taking his pics and Bailey will probably change his tune in no time!
Karen,
Thanks for the greeting. My puppy was born Feb. 19 - so I'll be getting her home in about a month. It is unique that we both have the same names and hopes for a corgi. Thanks for writing and keep in touch...
She's not terribly different- a bit calmer, but still go nuts around new people :P nowhere near socialized enough. I hope she calms down though, she's still a crazy puppy girl.
Thanks for the coment on the video Karen - she gets such a kick out of that darn ball, I think it is the best money I have ever spent on a toy for her... she never tires of chasing it. Just a few more weeks until Bailey comes home hua? You must be SO excited and anxious! I can't wait to see his homecomming pics when you post them. :-)
LOL. Well at least you will be ready for the journey. (I did the same thing!) I am sure Bailey will turn you into a ball of mush, but you'll have to grag yourself to your computer to show him off! :-)
That ball is the best investment I have made on a dog toy (and we have TONS!) She never tires of chasing it around the back yard day after day. I actually started with the rubber kind you are referring to, but she popped holes in it within 5 mins. This is actually a hard plastic ball made for dogs that are tough on toys. I got it at petsmart.com (they do not sell it in the store.) Just go to the website and search for "The Amost Indestructible Dog Ball." It comes in a smaller size, but Emmy prefers the "full size" version. She gives it 2 paws up! :-)
Oh my, what an adorable dog you have! I've never heard the term "Cooper" - good to know. I'd love to get another Corgi for Cubbie to play with, he's such a cool dog. I could be like the queen and have a house full! We found a great place to take Cubbie off leash near Lake Chabot in San Leandro. Haven't seen another Corgi though! He sure loves the Bay Area weather, (he's originally from a breeder in Modesto...too hot for his coat ).
Thanks for checking out Bryson's blog! So excited for you guys on Bailey :) This August he should be old enough to go to the Giants Dog Day game, it really was a lot of fun parading in the field before the game! We went with Bryson last year, you can check it out on this blog post here. Maybe we could get a few Bay Area corgis to go together this year!
Yep going to go pick up my little Bax next Saturday. Its a 4 hour drive but my boyfriend and I are going to drive part way Friday so we can be there Saturday morning.=) When are you picking up your little guy, I am thinking it will be soon here in the next week or two? Being a new corgi parent is exciting! =D
Sweet! Happy puppy day next Saturday for us! =) Will be sure to take lots of pictures, hope to see lots of pictures of your new little guy too! Well driving part of the way Friday is nothing we really had to do, but we wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to get back before too late, have plenty of time to bond with little Bax. Plus well...we're just anxious! As I know you are. =)
Thats right! We'll be one hour closer tonight! Wow...that is absolutely the only reason I have to look forward to the time change hehe. Losing sleep sucks! This time next week we shall have our little corgi bundles of joy. We're gonna be such doting corgi mothers. =)
Hey Karen! 6 days!!! Woo Hoo - we're in the home stretch now. I bet you won't even sleep the night before you pick him up. LOL I know you packed for the roadtrip already, so I bet you're now "nesting" and getting your house all ready for his arrival. LOL - you are going to be a great Corgi mon... Bailey is a very lucky boy! :-)
LOL - oh my gosh no! My parents (AKA Santa) gave that to her when we vistited them on Christmas. They thought it would be funny to watch her... the poor thing could hardly lift it - but she managed to carry it around. She had to stand on top of it to chew on it. She made a little progress on it, and it's actually still in my cupboard. I have not given it back to her since Christmas day.. LOL.
