About Me:
I am a twenty-something year old born and raised and currently live in San Francisco, California. I am a first-time dog owner and I am a mommy to one (and my first) male Pembroke Welsh Corgi by the name of Bailey...
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
Website:
http://baileythecorgi.blogspot.com
About My Corgi(s):
Bailey was born in Northern California on January 21st, 2008 (an Aquarius - according to doggy astrology, Bailey will be social, a free spirit, quirky, smart, and maybe a rebel!!!). His mommy was a red-headed tri-colored corgi and his daddy Cooper was a red and white corgi. Bailey's fur is much more golden than an ordinary red/white. He gives credit to his parents for that.

Bailey came home on 3/15/08, on a lovely 3 hour drive from Corning, CA. I still remember that day vividly!

Bailey loves meaty treats, the smell of pizza or any other baked carbohydrates (example: french bread!!) , stuffed animals with squeakers, squeaky balls, tug-o-war, wrestling, drinking water, bossing puppies around, peeing on other dogs' poop, doing tricks, going to the dogpark, meeting new people, learning new tricks, exploring, sleeping, and barking too.

Bailey is VERY social and expects every moving thing within a 20 feet radius to say hello to him. If you do not, he will jump on you and insist you pet him. He loves affection from strangers but appears to be embarassed if I display affection to him in public. With dogs, he loves to wrestle, and chase ball-crazy dogs who chase balls. He also loves interuppting picnics at the park, rolling in who-knows-what, and swimming (he's the cutest swimmer too).

We also have relatives on this website. So far:

Parker: Uncle/Half-Brother? (search Arlene & Perry)
Leo: Blood brother/littermate (search Sabrina & Leo)
I have:
Pembroke

Awesome, Baxter and I will just sign up for Karen and Bailey's online class LOL. That is some helpful advice, I've been rubbing his paws and messing with his ears, though I need to make a nightly or daily habit of it. I cleaned his ears with a swab last night, he didn't seem to mind much, he was occupied chewing on a piece of rawhide. The nail trimming has progressed slowly, like one nail at a time LOL. He isn't afraid of it, he just wants to bite at the clippers and pulls and wiggles so I'm afraid I'm going to nip him in the quick...then we will have troubles with nail trimming. =/ I'll have to work on the watch me thing, I know it was mentioned in one of the books I had on training. That will take some effort on his part to pry his eyes away from that treat. I bet that little shiba inu was a cutie. Glad he found him a playmate closer to his size. I wish there were some puppies around for bax to play with, most of the dogs we know are 3 times his size except for my best friend's beagle. He is a little less intimidated when they are closer to his size. Loves the cats lol. Baxter is not yappy either, for which I am thankful also. He will growl and bark at his toys occasionally...you know...giving them a stern talking to. Mostly his lil woofs are all about what food he can sweet talk you out of heheh. I did buy a clicker though I havent tried to use it yet, that is a good method though, I think I may start him on the clicker. And oh don't apologize about the post, I am glad to hear from you and get caught up! =D I think they must have miracle grow in their food...I swear they just won't slow down with the growing! Baxter I know is far ahead of his 6 pounds he weighed 3 weeks ago hehe.
  • Nicole & Baxter

Oh! And hope you and Bailey have a great week too!
  • Sam Tsang

Hi Karen, I wasn't aware there is a photo limit, do you mean number of photo or size of the photo? as far as i know there isn't a limit on number yet, but size yes.
  • Sam Tsang

I hope it is a mistake, because there's a few members who have posted well over 100 before, one of our highest number was over 800 pictures.
  • Sam Tsang

ok ok..... scared me for a second there :) Glad it worked out for ya :)
  • bill and maggie mae

OK THANX...ILL HAVE TO TRY IT
  • Me

This is one serious corgi. Lighten up fella ! Do not be so stingy - give us a smile. He is gorgeous. And the photos are lovely.

I envy you. Bailey is an interesting dog.
  • Me

It is so unusual to find a corgi with a red face and ears - he is fascinating. A real little fox. Oh and those plumb little legs. I can just gobble him up. Corgis are such neat dogs. Perfect. I hope he continues to bring you great joy for many many years to come.
  • Enzo

Bailey is so adorable ;) We live pretty close to you... Auburn-ish. Any who I see you just got your boy recently as well, Enzo was 9 weeks on the 9th. He came home on Sunday. How did you get your pup to eat dry food? we are having the hardest time with that... our breeder only fed him wet and now he doesn't even look at the other stuff.
Our boy is a red head too!
  • Enzo

Its funny I tried doing a combo of both foods and no matter how well I stirred them together and added water and stirred it some more he still managed to eat around it. I will definitely try soaking the wet food that is a great idea... Our breeder had us buy dry food and then handed a dog who has never seen it before.
    any who thanks again :)
  • Hoogie's Family

You are a lucky dog owner, Karen!
  • Alfredo

Well as much as I would like to keep them all and grow to have a corgi army to take over the world (LOL j/k) we can't. So as of now a couple have been promised to family and friends. The others I am currenly open to prospective parents. Since you're close if you know of any let them know. As I would love to have them go to local folks with the hope of being able to see them again in the future perhaps.

If your interested I can send you more info on them.

PS: I love your pics of Bailey. We go to the same PetSmart perhaps we'll run into each other. Corgi puppies ate BEST!
  • Alfredo

Yes we do sometimes attend those playgroups. The group is called "SFcorgi", it's at Mountain Lake Park on lake and 8th Ave. every 2nd saturday of the month. There is usually like 15+ corgis and at times there has been around 30 of them at the same time.
  • Nicole & Baxter

Hi Karen and Bailey boy! Hope you two had a good week. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Been a bit tied up this week with work and the bax man. We are both doing fine, ecstatic to see the weekend...well I am anyway. I got Baxter signed up for puppy classes this week, hooray! I talked to the closer dog training facility that is a bit of a shorter distance than petsmart. He's going to start next thursday evening, and they are going to do the clicker training as well. He had so much fun last night when we went down to meet the trainer and sign up for the class. There were some little dogs running around playing, a couple of yorkies and a little dachund puppy. He had a ball! =) Glad to hear bailey's training is coming along, I still want pointers! Perhaps I will learn some different ones and we can share. Ooohhh I want to see paw over, you must make a video! I'll bet its soo cute! Baxter is shedding a little...but his coat hasn't started coming out in waves yet. Of course we've had a bit of cooler weather up till now and its only really starting to stay warm on a consistent basis. I'm sure he will start soon...oh the dread heheh. I switched his food from what the breeder had been feeding him to Canidae, and that has made his coat really fluff up and sparkle. =) Bailey is looking very handsome and grown up in his new pictures! He is such a little doll. I'm going to post some new ones of Baxter here in a little bit, the little devil has grown on me again! I'm going to have to get a bigger crate soon, he can't hardly stretch out now in the one he has hehe.
  • Pa'ani

Hes so precious! i remember when pa'ani was that young, then one day get just got huge and mature! enjoy it while it lasts the puppy stage doesnt last long enough. im glad you found your match!
  • Avyon

Ok Im either laughing or being girly and going "awww" at all your pictures hehehe! I love you profile!

and pssstttt! Redheads have more fun! Bwaha!
  • Treez & Spartacus

thanks for the kind words and advice karen! you are so spot on with him waking up at night! the first night Spartacus woke up every 45 min, and then the second night, 3 times, last night, only once! i think he's starting to get the hang of it... i absolutely adore him!
  • Kona

I love all your pictures. So cute. Looks like you went on a crazy photo spree like me. haha..
  • Nicole & Baxter

Hi Karen and Bailey! Glad to hear class went well! Heheh guess the relationship with the shiba inu was a one day playground friendship. =) Ya know, some dogs just can't handle the handsomeness and smartness of the pembroke welsh corgi. Oh well little shiba's loss. But sounds like he has a buddy now! I love pugs, they are sweet little dogs with hilarious expressions. Sounds like Bailey is running the class now, hahah I knew it wouldnt take him long! Such a smart little fellow, glad he is doing so well. Yeah Baxter knows it and down, but he can only do down if I put the treat down on the floor. He hasn't learned hand signals...hopefully they will teach me this tomorrow when he goes to his first class...I am excited for him! Would love to get him to walk on a leash without going everywhere hehe. I have a feeling he will do it for me down there and completely forget it when I take him for his daily walk. He is doing better...still easily distracted though. Bailey played with a golden retriever did he? Hehe those big puppies will wear those little corgi legs out. Ick, sorry to hear about the poo incident, I bet Bailey didn't care too much for it either. Shame people can't clean up after their dogs.
=( Glad he is no worse for wear though. Ohhh Baxter loovvess freeze dried liver, I was puzzled too when I first opened a can of those. It looks exactly like sawdust! But I can shake that can a little and he'll come running hehe. I bought him some chews he really likes made out of dried sweet potato. Who knew they liked sweet potatoes too? Of course he likes vegetables, I give him carrots and frozen greenbeans sometimes as treats, he eats them like candy! Ah well, I've got to go check on the little monster. Will let you know how class goes tomorrow! Hope you and Bailey are doing well and that your week has gone well thus far! I posted some more pictures of the bax man if you want to take a peek at them. Take care!
  • CORKIE AND KAREN

    Hi Karen and hi Bailey.
  • Luigi

Bailey is sooo cute!! He reminds me so much of Luigi, they are almost the same age. Do you ever take Bailey out in San Francisco to any parks? I am looking for friends for Luigi, so let me know! Megan
  • Luigi

That is great info! Thanks for sharing. Keep me posted when he is done with all his shots. Luigi finished all his shots at the end of March so he is ready to play!
  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Thank you for your advice on my blog, I appreciate your input.
  • Sylvia & Timmy

You're right!!! I love the mostly red, with very little white dogs. He's growing up too fast, Karen!! So handsome and what a studly look!! Give him a big kiss for me and a woof from his "uncle Timmy". Have a great weekend and keep up the great work.
  • Sylvia & Timmy

That would be cool Karen! Some of the newer pups look like they're gonna be red heads as well.

Make sure the give the injection sub cutaneous (sp?) not into the muscle like happened to the other pup, who's name I can't think of right now. Have a great weekend!!
  • Juel

thanks for the comment! what an adorable little one!
  • James

A close friend of mine has an adult Corgi. We used to joke that her AKC/CKC name was unusually long and read like a medieval knights name. It was Lord Charlston's Bodacious Kaki-King Cheese Crackers, however she just called her "Crackers". I said that when I get one I will name "her" Cheesecake, (because it's delicious and keeping with the Cheese theme), however I got a "him" instead. So "Cheeze-it" naturally fell into place as a masculated version of Cheesecake.

Besides Corgi's are yellow like Cheese, but it can also be used as an adjective, in that, Corgi's like to cheese, and to "Cheese-it" is a funny way to say "get outta here". Naturally I spelled it incorrectly, but I can attest that "Cheez-it" does in fact "Cheese-it"!
  • James

Definately meant "verb" instead of "adjective" on that post below! lol
  • Tracie & Emmy

Hey Karen, just wanted to say hi and peek in on my favorite red and white corgi. I swear he is cuter everytime I visit your page. (And to think at one time you didn't think you would ever get any good pics of him!! LOL ~ He turned out to be such a ham!) Emmy sends hugs and kisses to Bailey. :-)
  • Tracie & Emmy

OK - you were right.... love the new pics. I don't think he can possibly get any cuter. Are his paws getting bigger too? :-)
  • Tracie & Emmy

LOL - I am uploading two videos on DSL right now too. Great minds think alike! I'm gonna go watch the finale of big brother but I'll be sure to check out Bailey's new videos before I call it a night. Have a great week! :-)
  • Tracie & Emmy

LOL - too funny!! Like I said earlier... great minds think alike! I am actually a "Rye-bread" fan, but Baller is OK to. (I did not like Jenn though.) I promise I won't tell you who won. Too bad we didn't realize we watched the same show until the last night! Enjoy!! :-)
  • Sylvia & Timmy

Thanks for the comments on the pictures. That corgi picnic was the best time I ever had with a bunch of people and whole bunches of corgis. There were like 80 corgis running around on the polo grounds and not one fight (that I saw). Great catered "foo foo" lunch, too and all the wine you could drink!!! A fun time was had by all.
  • Tracie & Emmy

OMG ~ I LOVE LOVE LOVE the amazing race!!!!! :-) I get so into it I actually yell at the TV sometimes! I used to watch survivor, but I did not watch this season. I might start up again next time... I sort of miss it - LOL I was happy for Adam, and that show reminded me again how much I hate Jen. I also am embarassed to admit this, but I am an MTV reality show junkie too! I watch The Hills, The Real World, and whatever "challenge" shows they do. (I don't do Tela Tequila or any of those really stupid ones though.) LOL
Give Bailey kisses for me! Emmy is passed out - today was a daycare day so she is super tired. :-)
  • Alfredo

no not yet. but i can tell it will be very soon.. i put it within the next week. Chloe is starting to act different where she just wants to be by herself and is displaying more nesting instincts.
  • Alfredo

The parks we go to the most are Fort Funston (Mine and the dogs favorite), Mountain lake park in SF for the corgi playgroup and Corona Heights.

Louie the dad is always close to her and just likes to lay next to her and lick her alot.
  • James

Yeah! I'm trying to figure out how to stop him from "sit-shaking" when I only say sit! He was 5.5 lbs on Monday and today he is 6.9. I heard 1 pound a week so he is going a little fast I think. How much is Bailey? (and @ what age?)
  • James

I have given Cheez-it some cheese. Just a little tiny taste and only once when I read that it is a good snack in severe moderation. Now he practically climbs in my fridge even though I put it in his food bowl. Wow Bailey is a hefty pup! (at least in comparison). He doesnt seem too intrested in his kibble though but he still eats it all, it just takes him all of the 30 minutes I allow. What kind of food are you using? Mabye it's something tastier.
  • James

Oh, and I make fun of his name all the time, feel free to participate.
    He is a
Cheese Ball, Cheese Doodle ,Cheese Cake ,Cheese pup ,Chili Cheese Pup (the time he fell back into his own #2) ,Cheese Flake ,Pupsicle ,Cheeseburger (sometimes in paradise).

Occasionally he goes into spurts of bad behaviour we call "Cheez-fits".
  • Bridget

He is just so incredibly cute!
  • James

I have to grocery shop later, definately going to pick up some yogurt. Mabye that will get him more intrested in his kibble! I feed him Eukenuba pup-kibble and some apples and squash. He is learning so treats are a big part of his diet, I need to further divide them and get him more into his food! Thanks for the Yogurt info!

He also LOVES hummus, I give him a tiny bit occasionally. It's very healthy for humans and safe for dogs. It has a high fat content, but it's healthy fat! He would eat a cinder-block if it were slathered in hummus.
  • Kasaundra

hello Karen & Bailey! I am planning on getting a red and white! I'm very excited!
  • Kathryn

HAha. Your welcome! Bailey is just ADORABLE! =D
  • Enzo

heh the food thing is good, were still eating half mushed food... I dont think he likes the flavor I got him so once were done with this bag we will try a different one. Enzo is actually a boy, all corgi's are boys to me too :)
  • Megan and Penelope

Thanks, I can't believe I forgot about the vaccines and worming...I know I had that discussion with the breeder already at least though! Thanks for the reply though.
  • Arang&Mark

Bailey is so cute! i actually never took pictures when we first got scout is its hard for me to imagine him actually growing. Scout is funny about the stairs too. he climbs up three now before he decides its enough and skips back down.
  • Nicole & Baxter

Hi there Karen and Bailey Boy! Sorry I haven't been in touch, work and home keeping me away from the computer. I am sneaking in a moment here at work to say hey. Your little buddy sure is growing up! Baxter is too, by leaps and bounds. Oh and I like Baileys registered name. Baxters is Llewy's Bax to the Future of Immer Essen. Hehhe, Llewy is his dad and Immer Essen is the name of the farm where he was raised. Bailey is a smart boy, I loved his tricks! Baxter's classes are going well, though I don't really feel I'm learning enough and I would have prefered him having a group class so he could hang out with other dogs. But there are small dogs he sees there when he goes. He's learned stay quite well since last week and this week we'll be working on proper leash walking...we shall see how that goes. =P The class only lasts 4 weeks for one day a week so I feel a little cheated. Of course they want you to come back for the basics class but I can't afford it now. Baxter's really smart though, he picks up things quickly and has impressed the trainer. He did away with the clicker on the first class because he said Baxter didn't need it. Which was fine with me, because like you...I don't care for that darn clicker hehe. Yes almost 4 months! Its very exciting and relieving as well...I've been constantly worried about parvo! Such a mom I am. Though its still possible for them to come down with it, I will feel more at ease taking him out more into the public now to explore the world after he gets his final vaccination set in. =) I wish there was a dog park nearby, but like everything else it will require a bit of driving time from where I live hehe. Ah well I am excited for them. They are growing up so fast. And summer shall be awesome! I plan on taking Bax to the Corgi Picnic in Raleigh in September. Best wishes to you both and give Bailey a good scratch behind the ears from me! =D
  • Megan and Penelope

Can I ask you a grooming related question? I see you have the medium FURminator, I just got that too. I still have about a week or so until we pick up Penelope, she'll be 11 weeks. When did you start using the FURminator and was the medium a good size? Thanks in advance.
  • Megan and Penelope

Thanks for the answer, I was really worried about the sensitivity of the skin still at that age. I forgot the large was yellow too, I see a lot of ppl getting the small so I was worried medium would be a little big, but it seems it should fine! Thanks again!
  • Tracie & Emmy

Hey Karen... Hi Bailey! I don't blame you at all, adding the videos can be a pain, but we all love to watch Bailey in all of his cuteness! There is a new puppy that sort of looks like him. I think his name was bubu or something like that. I DVR'ed the finale of the Hills so I will watch it tonight too. :-) I also heard the Mole is starting again next month. That's a good one if you never watched it before. Have a good night! :-)
