Profile Information:

Hometown:
Bainbridge Island
About Me:
I own a small retail pet store in Washington State, and used to do Search and Rescue with my German Shepherd, Gabriel, who passed away suddenly in Feb. (He was happily bossed around by his Corgifriends, who miss him terribly.) I also have several cats, and two wonderful horses.

Surprisingly, everyone gets along fairly well... *grin*
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
Yes

About My Corgi(s):
My Pembroke Corgi is a rehomed/rescue dog, and I breed and show Cardigan Corgis.

Riley: My shop dog and constant companion, Riley was a puppy mill dog. He was dropped off at my shop when he was 12 weeks old; the person who bought him realized she made a bad decision to buy him, and couldn't keep him... He's a great ambassador for his breed, and also a great way to explain why you shouldn't purchase a pup this way.

"Simon Sez" aka Simon - my blue merle Cardigan Corgi. He is my number one photo-fella - he knows exactly what the camera is and he works it like any good model. He's an incredibly intelligent guy with a ton of personality and drive. You ask, he does, and he does it with style -- talk about a truly perfect gentleman of a dog.

"Caleb" - Our other show Cardigan Corgi, a red brindle male born in December 08. He struts his stuff in the ring; he likes to show off, and he likes to show. He's got a bit of an ego, I'm afraid, but he loves any and all dogs, cats, and random hamsters... and assumes they should just love him right back.

Temperance: Our new blue merle Cardigan girl and show/obedience prospect!

Tess and Rachel - Caleb's daughters and my newest show prospects!
I have:
Both Pembroke and Cardigan

Aww, you're a rescue hero! I hear that dogs who are rescued are a lot more loving because they know how bad life was before. I bet Riley and Piper have it made with you. They must meet lots of new friends, and people.
  • Jenni & Dave Fields

Welcome Riley, Piper and the whole crew! You will love this site....lots of amazing Corgis and people too!
  • Katie

    Welcome!

Wow! You are pretty busy, but it sounds so amazing.
  • FuzzyButt

Thank you, I will! My boyfriend and I will be up in Snohomish for Christmas. I hope to be able to stop by your shop. I've been dying to get Banzai an aviator jacket, and cap like Riley is wearing.
  • Sam Tsang

    Welcome Riley, Piper and family!
  • Sam & Shelby

Welcome to Mycorgi! It's great that you rescue dogs. I don't have the heart to, I'd bring home the whole shelter. Is that Piper or Riley in your pictures?
  • Gizmo

Hello, Riley, Piper ,Gabril and family, who is in that costume? That's cool!
You make me smile everytimes I look at the pictures.
  • Cheryl

I love the costume. Do you think Emily would like to be a biker babe? She likes leather. Mostly just the rawhide kind... :) Gotta love a Corgi!
  • Sam & Shelby

Thanks, I love to take pictures of Shelby. I'm addicted.Oh, and, Riley's beautiful.
  • Jamie Jo

Welcome to Washington State Corgis! I too love shepherds, but there is just something about corgis. My two baby corgis and my dad's German shepherd are best friends.
  • Florence Fong

    Hi,
Loved pic. no. 10 with your Corgi sleeping with his paws up in the air. Don't know if that is Riley or Piper. My Ritz would lie on his back when he wants his tummy rubbed. He loves it when I give him massages on the head. neck, shoulders and back. :o)
  • Katie

Hey Shepdog! I didn't know you had horses too!
  • Katie

Wow! How do you do it all? Do you ever sleep? :) A store, search and rescue, horse owner, horse rescuer, and dog owner! Amazing!
  • Katie

ooh! You are a horse woman! You have a well trained DH! HAHA!
  • Juel

Thanks for the comment, I no longer have the Shepard cross, when I move my mother would not let me take her with me. My mother was to attached, and sense she is home by herself during the days she need the company. I miss Weatherbee every day, She was my first grown up dog we taught each other alot! I try to visit as often as I can!
  • Juel

I am glad to see others that have german shepards with corgis! My boyfriend Has a German shepard and I need to consider mixing Families. haha. I was concerned for a little while because when i was talking to breeders, one told me any breeder would be erisponsible to place a corgi with a shepard. But I think that they have fairly similar temperments, from what I have seen.
  • Shepdog

Irresponsible? Wow, how odd. Frankly, I think the Corgis hold their own just fine. Maybe they had had bad experiences with Shepherds, I don't know... The breeders I've talked to were more than happy to place them in a household with a Shepherd, and not once has that been an issue that even came up.

Frankly, most of the Shepherd breeders I've met go to Corgis or a mixed household. It was at a German Shepherd specialty that I saw my first group of Corgis and Shepherds together and I've seen a lot of kennels show both.

The Cardi supposedly has the more Shepherd-like temperment out of the two breeds... I'll let you know after we get ours how he fits into our household.

I thought it was weird also, I am very excited, on tuesday I am going to visit my local Pem. breeder. YEAH!! I still haven't made up my mind which I want to start with. I initially was leaning toward a Pem, then I visited my local Cardi Breeder, and fell in love! Now I am leaning in that direction, who knows when I visit the Pems I may fall in love with them. So hard to decide! Haha, Will the boyfriend go for one of each?

Hi, we haven't met but I have seen some of your comments and am interested to ask you something. There is a lot of angst on the Internet re Canidae changing their formulas and also that they are going to be using Diamond (associated with a lot of sick dogs and recalls). I am Canadian, by the way, don't know if that would make a difference?
I have asked my distributor to find out; he is trying to check out sources but so far says that it is all rumor. I have been doing searches but everything I see on the Internet is people talking about it, I haven't seen any real proof, all hearsay. I would be interested in knowing if you have firsthand knowledge about them using Diamond. Are you concerned about it. My Baby Butter is 9 so uses Canidae Platinum, old version. Do you know when it may be changed. Thank you SO much for any info you can send my way. Joy
  • Butter

Thank you so much!!! He is a sweetie, we just adopted him 9 weeks ago and he is 9 years old. I just started a group called Mature/Senior Corgis and others (that is, any other older dog on this site). You seem to have a lot of experience with dogs (understatement!!). Consider yourself invited, would love to have you....would love to have a really active group, lots of discussion with group members starting discussions, etc. I hope you will consider it. I started it because I don't know really what to expect. When Baby Butter is tired, should I push him to play more, etc. I love lots of questions, don't know if I have many answers. I like your Avarar; pretty cool. Joyful Joy and Baby Butter
  • Butter

Thanks for the reply...strange my distributor didn't get any updates. I will have to check the bag and see if I can find a number that works from Canada. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Joy

Q for you: do you think a tiny bit of ice cream is ok for Buttercup? I give him a bit of Heavenly Hash and he thinks he is in heaven. Just a tablespoonful now and then? What do you think? Thanks, JOY
  • Butter

Thanks... I had forgotten about no chocolate and had been giving him a bit of heavenly hash (choc pieces in it). I didn't know DQ did that for dogs. I'll have to see if they do that in Canada too.
  • Katie

Your Ay-rabs are BEE-utiful! Red is jealous of all of that grass! He called and said he wants to go live with you! :)
