San Francisco, California
About Me:
I am a twenty-something year old born and raised and currently live in San Francisco, California. I am a first-time dog owner and I am a mommy to one (and my first) male Pembroke Welsh Corgi by the name of Bailey...
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
Website:
http://baileythecorgi.blogspot.com
About My Corgi(s):
Bailey was born in Northern California on January 21st, 2008 (an Aquarius - according to doggy astrology, Bailey will be social, a free spirit, quirky, smart, and maybe a rebel!!!). His mommy was a red-headed tri-colored corgi and his daddy Cooper was a red and white corgi. Bailey's fur is much more golden than an ordinary red/white. He gives credit to his parents for that.

Bailey came home on 3/15/08, on a lovely 3 hour drive from Corning, CA. I still remember that day vividly!

Bailey loves meaty treats, the smell of pizza or any other baked carbohydrates (example: french bread!!) , stuffed animals with squeakers, squeaky balls, tug-o-war, wrestling, drinking water, bossing puppies around, peeing on other dogs' poop, doing tricks, going to the dogpark, meeting new people, learning new tricks, exploring, sleeping, and barking too.

Bailey is VERY social and expects every moving thing within a 20 feet radius to say hello to him. If you do not, he will jump on you and insist you pet him. He loves affection from strangers but appears to be embarassed if I display affection to him in public. With dogs, he loves to wrestle, and chase ball-crazy dogs who chase balls. He also loves interuppting picnics at the park, rolling in who-knows-what, and swimming (he's the cutest swimmer too).

We also have relatives on this website. So far:

Parker: Uncle/Half-Brother? (search Arlene & Perry)
Leo: Blood brother/littermate (search Sabrina & Leo)
I have:
Pembroke

i like wellness. mainly because the canned food is labelled all pretty. haha! you should try their canned food if you haven't. mei LOVES her canned food, esp when you microwave it.
  • mikonami

haha, you can always just put a spoonful mixed with dried food. it's my way of spoiling mei instead of giving her human food ;D
  • mikonami

i don't know about baking it...hahaha. but it's good to use when you need to give them medication. you just stuff it in a chunk and they tend to just eat the chunk whole with the pill. you can buy a can lid at petsmart and then store it in the fridge. this tends to make it a lil harder, so you should microwave it each time. if you're cheap (like i used to be before finding the lid for 49 cents...haha) you could just wrap the can with foil. the can usually lasts up to a week after opening it. =)
  • Junbug

Thanks, K&B. Yes, Stanford has been to the meetups once at Lone Mountain Park back in April. We haven't been back since. Where in the city do you live? We're in SoMa by 4th & Folsom.
  • kayla

Bailey is absolutely adorable!!! I love the pic where he is sleeping on his back next to the stuffed animal! priceless!
  • Junbug

Now in hindsight I think it is Mountain Lake Park by Inner Richmond. I think the venue never changes. Bailey is a cutie... Stanford wants to meet him soon!
  • kayla

I am new to this site so I didn't know you can meet with other corgis! Thats great. Our pup is growing slowly but surely. He is only 4.5 lbs right now at 14 weeks! He's going to be the smaller type for sure.
  • Junbug

Yes, we have to join those monthly meet-ups soon. It sure is a lot of fun seeing so many corgis running and playing around at one time.

We have been taking Stanford to fenced-in dog parks in the city like the ones in the Castro and Corona Heights. We're still worried to venture out in fenceless parks for fear that Stanford will just run away when he gets too excited. But we've been lucky. We've only had him five months and he knows us very well now. No problems with recall.
  • Megan and Penelope

We don't mind, she is 15.5 weeks and weighs 14.4 pounds. I almost thought that was kinda heavy b/c some ppl on here have tiny corgis at 6 months! But, the vet said it was good and I know she isn't too big b/c you can clearly see where her body goes in from her ribs and those ribs can be felt too. She may even need to gain more at the moment! Our babies are growing up!
  • kayla

Hi there! Yeah Milo is getting his shots incrementally since he is so small. We signed up for this membership at our vet, kind of acts like pet insurance, which has vaccination shots as well as office visits included in the one time fee. So we've gone to the vet a total of four times this month? Does your pup growl when he plays around?
  • kayla

Yeah when we took Milo the first times, the office visit costs were 42 dollars. This vet is actually part of Petsmart....its called banfield? Every heard of them? We adopted our cat through petsmart and they referred us to the vet facility in store. You should check them out if there is one around your area. I used to take my previous dog to those mobile vet clinics...I have to say, they are great and very affordable! They even give the dogs a little dog treat at the end.

Bailey sounds like a very good tempered dog! Milo likes to growl when he plays and I try to prevent him from this...but he's young right now and probably doesn't know any better. He does bark, but only during play. He actually doesn't bark that often, which is great! WE don't want to have the neighbors complain. He doesn't make snorting noises or snore but I think thats absolutely adorable that your Bailey does that...he sounds like a human! So cute!

I love it when they lie on their backs and fall asleep....its soooooo cute! Whats Bailey's favorite sleeping position?
  • Lexi

Thank you for your WONDERFUL comment! It was nice to hear your experiences and thoughts on my situation. Kuma's got his first vet appointment tomorrow so we'll definitely check what the vet thinks about our outside situation and hopefully start using less potty pads! Plus, Kuma is super particular and doesn't like to use the bathroom on his pads if there are more than two "instances" of poo/pee... that requires frequent changing.

ps. We are in Sacramento, CA... which is not too far from SF!
  • Nicole & Baxter

Hi Karen and Bailey! Hope you had a super birthday weekend! How'd your baseball game go? It looks like Bailey had a blast playing at the meetup. Do tell about it, do corgis generally recognize their own breed and automatically just get together and have a ball? Because it certainly looks that way hehehe. I've got to get Bax exposed to other corgis. He's played with a beagle, a daschund, a border collie mix, and those pups at his school. But no corgis nearby. Corgis just seem to let loose around each other hehehe. Definitely in need of a video camera...though I guess my digital camera does fairly well recording outdoors but it is horrible dark indoors. Oh well I lack funds to purchase anything now. But I digress.

Yeah boy surgery isn't nearly as invasive as the girls. They usually bounce right back in a days time. We'll have to get them a bag of frozen peas to sit on lol!

Have your books come in yet? I've got Baxter jumping through the old hula hoop I actually dug up...couldn't believe it was still there! He's doing pretty good with it hehe. Sometimes he won't jump high enough and get his back legs hung at the hoop. =) But hey if it works well as a deterrant for Bailey, that is just as good, keep him out of places...wish I could find one of those for Baxter hehehe.

Oh I spoil Baxter terribly too. I'm always giving him bites of banana like you and apple when I eat them. He just loves them and I can't help myself. But I do try to give this to him after he has eaten his breafast/dinner (and eaten it all!) I am bad to slip him things from the plate too, like green beans or a cheerio or two at breakfast. Its a very bad habit, if he wouldnt look at me so darn cute. He knows exactly what he's doing. I opened him a new bag of merrick the other day. I believe he likes the flavor of this one better as he is much better about eating it. Its called Grammie's Pot Pie. And you know it does kinda smell like chicken pot pie! Heheh, if I put the warm water over it to make the gravy he will gobble it right up. If he rattles the pan like he wants more I will put some more kibble in there dry and that disappears too. And he will eat them as treats, so I guess its just finding him the right flavor. Oh well, anyway, hope your week is going well! And oh, nah my birthday was last month, May 3. Afraid I've been 28 for too long already..I think I'm ready to start going backwards with age...we can do that right? Heheh, sigh, I am pushing 30 like a bulldozer.

Baxter: What up bro? I've just been chillin out here in NC. Mom showed me your vids and pics of you having fun with all those corgis. Man...that looks like too much fun! Whats this about getting arrested by the man? Oh, oh they were just looking huh? Yeah, even the law can't resist our good looks. Always good to make friends up top Bailey bro. Letsee what have I been up too...not much really. Mom is making me jump through a hoop...thinks its "cute". I swear I wouldnt do it if she didnt give me those little peanut butter things...mmmmmm those are just darn good. I mean what's next, is she prepping me for the circus or something?? Dude I dont know...I may have to come hide out at your house. Oh...here comes mom..I'd better go. Take care my westcoast homie!
  • Nicole & Baxter

Well thank ye, it was a good one. Baxter has been my forever present too!

Giants lost eh? Oh well...yay free shirt! Awsome, beach trip tomorrow! I think the bax man and I are going shopping with our best buds Julie and her beagle Maggie. Gonna hit the hot spots with the air conditioning lol. I've been wanting to take him forever, not really looking for anything (although I will most likely spend too much and regret it later) I think he will enjoy it.

Baxter is pretty much that way too, any dog that runs and wants to play he gets right in there and plays till he can hardly waggle his tongue anymore hehehe. Yeah I believe Baxter is using that herding instinct too. He definitely herds the three cats around. =)

Yeah my camera can do good night pictures, but forget about recording anything. It can't get enough light in our living room to record in the middle of the day!

Hehe yes Baxter loves peas too. I can take or leave peas, I do like snow peas though, although they're usually mixed with so many different vegetables when I eat them, its just part of a merger hehehe.

Cool you got the books! Thanks for the recipe! I'm going to get some wheat flour and bananas after work today and make some! They do sound really easy, and I have some cookie cutters I got for when I did decide to bake him some cookies. I bet he will love those...loves bananas, loves peanut butter. Its a happy marriage. I will send ya an update later and let you know if he approved. Though I am positive he will! Did you see that recipe I put over in the forum? Its really an easy frosty treat if Bailey boy loves ice cubes. Its...

    1 qt Orange Juice
    1 banana mashed
    1/2 cup yogurt

Just mix them all together and freeze in an ice cube tray. A yummy way to beat the heat, heck I like them too! =) I'm definitely gonna give those pb and banana cookies a go. Oh...I know all about the cherries in season, LOL I helped pick some at my grandmother's house last weekend. Somehow I'm getting conned into climbing the tree tomorrow morning...=/. Heheh Baxter went with me last weekend though, I had to get him out from under the tree though...I think he would have eaten cherries till he popped LOL.

Hmm yes beg sounds difficult. I say this cuz I dont know about Bailey, but Baxter has trouble balancing on his hind legs. I think its the lack of a tail for extra balance =). I'll bet Bailey boy will pick up on it though. Yes, I want to see an update of his tricks! I'll be waiting for it! How about crawl? That seems like it might not be too difficult to train. I know my boyfriend told me he was trying to teach it to his dog Rosie. But she's a big dog, it might be easier to teach it to dogs closer to the ground perhaps? =)

Baxter: Yo again Bailey bro, say you been getting the homemade goodies eh? That sounds awesome, I'm going to have to nag mom till she makes me some of those cookies. Oh yeah your mom should open her up a shop and make you the mascot. Can you think of a better job than being a mascot at a BAKERY? Dude...that is the life we dream of! I'll try to keep my composure while mom bakes those cookies...her and my other two humans brought home KFC the other day. Oh my dog I wanted some of that chicken! Drool was dribbling out the sides of my mouth bro! Eh..mom gave me some green beans instead. That was so totally NOT what I wanted. Oh well, chest bumps and high paws westside bro. Stay cool!
  • CORKIE AND KAREN

    HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY BAILEY!!!!!!!!!!
  • Yoshi

I'm finally getting my corgi on Sunday! I'm so excited! I just had one question..what size crate do you recommend I get? I will be crate training him.
  • Leia (aka Princess Leia)

Thanks for the advice Karen....I'll try some of your suggestions!
  • Stephen

Cruise is still on puppy food...we feed him Wellness brand...I may start thinking about the adult food though...heck he already tries to eat Tiki's food already! He is getting neutered July 8th...I will ask the vet then what she thinks.
  • Keith, Joanne, and Range

We usually take him to Richmond Dog park or in Foster City. We've been busy with work so we haven't had a chance to take him out. But after this month we'll be back on our usual walks and trips to parks. Definitely let me know when the next Corg meeting is... I barely have time to check posts, but I check when I get messages or comments. Ocean Beach is close to us, def let me know when you're going there again. Range hasn't been there, so It'll be great to have a Corgi Friend to go with.
  • Keith, Joanne, and Range

Richmond, Ca across the bay bridge. At Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, the largest off-leash dog park in the U.S. It's huge and gated from traffic, dogs can get in the water where they can swim if they wanted. They also have a dog wash after they're done. Here's the site: http://www.ebparks.org/parks/pt_isabel
  • Kevin

The story about the tv show. Well my brother was watching adultswim when he was watching a show called cowboy bebop and saw ein a corgi pet of the main characters. He later reserched what dog ein it was a corgi! Then he looked up corgis and breeders. Weeks later I came home from school and the ball of fuzz came out of no where I instintly fell in love with taters. And thats the story.
  • mikonami

omg! i love bailey's home! you're so creative!
  • Butter

  • Juel

Silvia and I met up at the local dog show this past Sunday and I got to meet lots of nice people and wonderful doogs.I found a local pem breeder and met Steve the Cardi breeder in person. It was so much fun! I will finally have 2 days off this week ( the first time in over a month) so I am hoping I can connect with on of them this coming week. I still am looking at next spring to bring my baby home, although it gets tougher to wait.
My roommate/ probable sister in law agreed to it only if If I redo her back yard fence. Right now my boyfriend German Shepard and her dog go to her folks less that is a mile away
  • James

Wow, he's getting so big and adult looking!
  • James

The fireworks made him absolutely crazy. He wasnt really scared, but each blast made him jump into fits of barking/growling. 23 lbs! Wow Karen, Bailey is a monster! Cheez is 11.5 lbs at 17 weeks.
    17 weeks = 3.90973443 months
He was the biggest of the litter, when did Bailey start to get big?
  • James

Just think, at this rate, in another year he will be 75 lbs of Corgi!
  • Joansie

your pup is a very handsome beast!!
  • Juel

YEAH new pictures! He looks so distinguished ini that colored shirt! How big we are getting!
  • Lexi

I love the new photos! Bailey sure is handsome! He seems pretty tolerant of clothes... did you introduce it early on?
  • Lexi

Well, Kuma is already 15 weeks! Hopefully it's not too late to start dressing him up! I can't wait for winter so i can get him a cute raincoat and sweater. I think the hardest part is trying to figure out size... he keeps growing!!!
  • Juel

I can not believe how Big he is getting!
  • Karen Crich

    Hi,
I had a corgi 20 years ago and because we are on the boat a lot I requested a dog life vest. Everyone thought I was nuts. So glad it exists now.
    Karen
  • Karen Crich

hi, they were only born 6 days ago and I have first pick. The breeder is a fair distance away so she suggested I wait till the end of Sept and see them then. there are 3 females and 5 males. I have first pick apparently. I loved the pictures on this website.
    Karen
  • Lexi

I've started off with bandannas. He's semi-chill about it. When he remembers it's there, he tries to nibble/bite at it and play with it like he did when he first got his collar waaay back in the day. I'm going to try a tank next when I get a chance to make it out to a store... been so busy b/c Kuma's daddy is out of town for a short while. Take it easy and have a happy Tuesday!
  • Ivy & Bryson

Just commented on your photo and think I need to pop by to say hi to a fellow Bay Area corgi! Happy belated 6-mo. old birthday, by the way! Have you guys been to the SF corgi meet up yet? It's quite a riot watching all these guys (sometimes up to 40-50) play. Hope Bryson will get a chance to meet with Bailey there some time soon!
  • Ginny and Diggory

Is it terrible that I'm jealous because Bailey has a nicer wardrobe than I do?? He's so cute!
  • Dannielle

    Thanks :o) Happy belated b-day to u!
  • Ivy & Bryson

Oh, sorry I thought I replied back to you about your question re: potty @ the Giants Dog Day... I don't recall anything inside, but they can relieve themself outside before getting in to the parade, then you'll have to leave the park before coming back in for the game, so if needed they can relieve again prior to the start of the game. If Bailey can hold x 3 hours during the game, he should be fine. :)
  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Bailey is getting so big.....6 months....Happy Belated 6 months! The pictures of Bailey in his clothes are adorable. Lance needs the vacuum shirt like Baileys, too cute. Lance hides from the vacuum. Giants hat and shirt is adorable as well!
  • Ivy & Bryson

We're hoping to go but we'll have to see if hubby can get a day off. :( It's so much fun and you guys will definitely enjoy it! Oh, but be sure to bring some water for your doggie, especially on a hot day, they don't seem to have many doggie dishes out.
  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Lance always has hidden from the vacuum, if I get near him with it he just finds another spot to go to!
The vacuum is one thing he hasnt barked at, and he seems to bark alot! We are currently desensitizing him to the doorbell!
  • Lexi

Bailey's getting soooo big! I love his Giants hat - though, I'm an A's fan. =) I'm tempted to buy Kuma a 49ers jersey... but I want him to be full sized before doing so...
  • Keith, Joanne, and Range

When r you planning to go to Fort Funston again? I wanna check it out!!
  • Keith, Joanne, and Range

Good luck with the Neutering. Range is gonna get one soon too, but my bf doesn't want it. But I think its best. Yeah, we'll probably check out Fort Funston today after my work. I can't do weekends, because were in the east bay during the weekends. And the only time I have for walks is after 4pm. But we'll try to make it on Sept 13th. ttyl
  • Keith, Joanne, and Range

I love Fort Funston Range had so much fun in the sand and water, the guy is so curious. We'll probably be there tomorrow in the afternoon, like after 1pm or 2pm... We went there on Tuesday and saw another corgi... so cute... they also told me about the meet up... r u going there tomorrow?
  • Juel

awe poor Bailey! I am glad that he is doing well!
  • Lexi

    How'd Bailey's neuter go?
  • Lexi

i'm so glad that Bailey had a smooth surgery! i'm sure he's just as happy as you are that he's back home. good luck with the rest of his recovery!
