We live on lovely Amelia Island, Florida, the northern most point on the Atlantic coast of Florida.
About Me:
Animal lovers extraordinaire!
About My Corgi(s):
Our Mia was born on June 26, 2005. We rescued her from an abusive situation when she was 1.5 years old. She is a gorgeous purebred, petite, athletic, and extremely intelligent Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We've put a LOT of time, money and energy into training her because she obviously had a rough start in life. She was never socialized properly as she was kept in a crate for the entire day, day after long day, for the first year and a half of her precious life!!! She is still a problem for us in public because she's aggressive with all other dogs. She is 110% sweet and gentle with ALL humans, but doesn't like other dogs. This is our biggest problem with our Mia. We also have a purebred long-haired standard dachshund puppy named Sadie. They get along very well ... sometimes, but Mia started being very aggressive toward Sadie a few months ago. So, off to the trainer again! Wow! It's been quite a challenge, but I'm happy to report that our love and diligence has paid off. We seem to have turned a corner with Mia's aggression toward Sadie. Now, they're playing together very well, but I ALWAYS have one eye on Mia, and I think I always will. We love both of them and we are devoted parents. Mia needs a very firm hand, a true pack leader, or she gets way too bossy! She will definitely take over this family, IF we aren't on our toes with her. She knows I mean business -- Drill Sargeant Mommy -- and she has responded to the new boundaries we have set for her. It's been a challenge, but a great learning experience for us. Looking forward to hearing more about all of you and your little darlings :-)
Thank you, Kristen, for our first welcome message. Is your Fern pictured in the thumbnail next to your message? I enjoyed viewing your photos of your furry companions and your farm. Sure looks like a peaceful existence!
Our Mia is a petite 21 lbs. We love her dearly, bad attitude and all. Jack is an Ultimate Frisbee fanatic, so he's met his match with her! Together, the pair of them are tough to persuade that frisbee is a sport, not a lifestyle!! haha.
Fern is the rescue in my blog that you can see on my page. Not so great pictures of her yet, but the one in the water in the blog shows a striking resemblance to Mia. The thumbnail is of Lizzie and Basil. My first two Corgis. Basil was killed by a trapper over a year and a half ago. Sad story and I still miss him terribly. Fern weighs in at about 18 lbs right now--we think she is about 3-4 years old. She is a little thing and very sweet. Our Lizzie is the one with true Corgi attitutde.
Hi There! Welcome to MyCorgi! I have rescues too. They have adjusted very well, but we still have some issues to deal with. I will be working with a trainer as well as soon as my new rescue is done with HW treatments!
Hi Katie! I can't say enough wonderful things about people who rescue and foster. Bless your heart for saving the HW positive ones, too. I'm glad to hear you're seeking training advice, even though they've adjusted well. I'll continue to reintroduce professionals into my dogs' lives, whether or not there are issues. I learn so much and am grateful to all of them for sharing what they know. I've had animals all my life, but I know I'll always have a lot to learn. Thanks, Katie, for welcoming us. Looks like a great site of BIG hearts.
Hi Jenni and Dave! Your Spencer is quite a handsome boy, and so is that lovely lab looking fella. We're having some fun exploring this site, especially meeting new Corgi friends, viewing photos and reading stories. I've been so distracted and entertained, I haven't done a bit of work today. Shh...don't tell! ;-)
Welcome Susan, Jack, Sadie & Mia! Wonderful how you have helped Mia overcome her earlier years to be the best dog she can be. We have issues with our dog but opposite of Mia. Scared of people and loves dogs. We start obedience in Sept to help train her and me to overcome some issues.
Welcome! It is so heartwarming that you have put so much of your heart into Mia! Great pictures! I love the life jacket. Emily doesn't swim so well. Maybe she would like the water more with a life jacket to help her out.
