Grace is a born Colorado girl just like me then quickly came to Arizona to stay warm! I love to golf and read and play with my dogs, kids, and hubby too:)
With a new puppy in house, life just got a whole lot more entertaining, and full of clean ups (if you know what I mean). I had 2 corgis as a child and I always remember them nipping at my heels. Amazing how they even herd me and now my family too! Can't they just stick to the livestock???
Grace is a born Colorado girl just like me then quickly came to Arizona to stay warm! I hang out with my golden retriever buddy ginger who is 8 years young. Ginger loves to wrestle with Grace even tho she weighs 10 times more! . Grace can't stand it when anyone else has a bone. She wants the same bone Ginger has. Hers is just not good enough! Her sister also came to Arizona where she has a great home! Grace is friendly but demands to be the ALPHA dog!
Aw, she's adorable. I don't know about any shows in the area. I considered getting a Cardigan to show but decided I wouldn't want an unneutered male running around the house so that wouldn't really work. We're thinking about getting into agility instead. I think that herding class you mentioned would be a lot of fun too. Finnigan has great herding instincts and I'd love to see him at work. :)
I have not done any showing yet. I am looking into getting that started with a couple of our dogs. In fact I have an email in to a couple people in my area asking questions - so when I hear back I will pass the information on to you. You might want to get in touch with your local kennel club - they would have a list of shows in the area.
Your Grace is adorable -
Finn came from a breeder in New Mexico. The only Cardi breeders in Az either didn't breed for blue merles or they had a waiting list at least 2 years long. Finn came from a great background though so we are very happy.
I'm undecided about the collar/harness issue. I like the collar because I think it makes the corrections easier and you can redirect the head if the puppy becomes distracted by something. I like the harness because he isn't choking himself and you have a little more control when it comes to pulling. When he is an adult and has better walking skills I will go back to using the collar only.
Hi Gracie! Corky too is from Colorado and moved to Arizona like you to stay warm, but where we live, it still gets cold. Corky was born in Mancos, Colorado on March 1, 2005. I live in northeastern Arizona, so we get our shares of snow and when it snows, Corky's legs are covered in the snow and it looks like he's gliding on snow with no legs...lol! So cute!
Oh my gosh! Gracie and LaVerne could almost be twins! Too cute X 2! lol Thank you for the sweet comment on LaVernes video! :o)
Im taking LaVerne in to get spayed this morning and Im way stressed. Her whole body trembles when she is at the Vet and I hate the thought of leaving her there. :o( Oh well.....has to be done. Wish me luck!
Hi again
Yes I think LaVerne would have been a great mommy too but Im so new to the dog world I decided to leave that to the experts. As for showing I dont know anything about that either. I do know that her Grandpa is Sammy Sosa, some fancy schmancy show dog but that too is lost on me.....lol. I just wanted a full time companion and she fits that bill perfectly!
I upload videos using a Flip Video camera. It does all the work for me. It has a USB that flips out of it and I just plug it into my computer and it autmatically transfers them to my computer. Then one more click and it goes onto Youtube. Too easy! They are pretty reasonably price. From around $90 to $230 dollars. You can check them out at amazon.com and see what you think.
I did ask my vet about peanutbutter and she says its just fine to give it to your dog. She likes to put it in kongs and then freeze it. Keeps them busy for quite a while. I personally wouldnt give my dog any peanutbutter dog treats. I saw they added some dog treats to the recall list yesterday because of possible salmonella. They say that jars of peanutbutter are fine tho. I think Id wait just the same but Im that way. Neurotic my husband says.....lol
Hi Kristi and Gracie!
I get to go pick LaVerne up at the Vet is about 20 mintues! I cant WAIT! They called this morning and she came thru the surgery fine. Thank you for asking. That is so sweet!
I dont know how to put videos on my computer with a regular camera but I know lots of people do! Maybe google it and find out how. Id love to see videos of Gracie! She does indeed look a lot like LaVerne. My fave picture is of the boy, ( your son? ) holding a not so happy looking Gracie....lol....that cracks me up! So cute!!!
Diamond is doing really well! Still itchy but not as much. She spent the day at the park with the kids and is tuckered out.
I haven't decided if I am going to breed her yet. I would wait to her 1st birthday to have her spade so I figure I have that much time to think it over.
Are you going to breed Grace? Does she miss her sister or is she adjusting ok?
Thank you for the sweet note. LaVerne did great with her surgery. She was really dopey when we got her home that first day and hardly moved the rest of the day. It was unnerving. About midnight she woke up and decided it was time to eat and visit. She was up most of the night and pretty whiny but the next day she was much better and today she is her old self again.
I love your videos. Did you upload them from a regular camera? Was it hard? I want to get my son a camera and he likes to put videos on youtube but I didnt know how hard that would be.
You mentioned you are going to show Gracie. How does that work? I guess I didnt know you could show dogs that young! That sounds like fun! There is nothing us Corgi owners like more than showing off our dogs..lol They are just the greatest!!!
Kristi~
When are you planning on getting Gracies last set of shots? I will probably take her to your vet to keep it simple. She is still itching....not as much....but still. She is such a good puppy!
Thanks so much for the vet tip! I was going to check that place out, it is just a few miles from where I live. I can't wait until Molly is old enough to start socializing her--and I don't even have her yet! :o) Grace is too precious, we will definitely have to get them together sometime.
i posted another discussion about the meet up for #2 and some possible days. since i havent venured to parks outside of the scottsdale one- you guys pick!
ps--little grace is a doll. i cant wait to meet full size grace- the one that matches her bark!
I'm glad to see there's more people than just us in the East Valley. I thought most of the members lived in Phx. I was expecting to get shot down for suggesting Cosmo...lol
Hi and thanks! Yeah, we got here in late August, so we got at least a little taste of the sonoran summer. We're eager to make a corgi meetup but unless one happens down here in Tempe or close to it, i dont think that between school and work we'll be able to make one til summer or maybe spring break.
Yes we might be awhile too. Grace just got a great vet check up and is ready for breeding. Let me know if you know someone who wants to buy a new corgi. They will be AKC and the dad is a champion, working on Grand champion status right now. HE comes from a long line of champs. I think Grace could do great in the ring, but I have no time to show:(( Not ready to give up tho!
Have a great weekend
Kristi and Grace
Hope everything goes well. Who gets the puppies? Do you intend to keep them? I am not a breeder. I wouldn't know how I would sell any of my corgi pups. Thank you for the welcome gift.
