Long Beach, NY, but have lived in CA since college.
About Me:
Married with children...all 3 grown and flown the nest.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Have had R & W Pembrokes my whole life, usually in pairs. Lucy, our now 5-yr old charmer, is a delight and keeps us laughing. We purposely picked a petite girl so that we could fly with her in the passenger cabin. We had our maiden voyage CA to NY (w. Lucy in the largest sized airline approved sherpa) and we all survived––esp. me, with the help of a bloody mary!
Fast forward a year and we re-homed a tri-male puppy who would have been in the pound if we didn't intervene. He had been left alone basically 24/7 in a backyard, and was all ribs and ears. He was a handful and the most difficult corgi I had ever owned. I don't know who was more upset by the decision to keep him, Jack, my husband, or Lucy. But all things happen for a reason. He's a wonderful, gentle and loyal corgi and we're all in love with him, including Lucy, (most of the time!), haha. RR turned 1 yo this month & surprised us all by becoming quite the looker. Lucy is 5. RR is twice her size, Everyone thinks that she's the puppy. Ya gotta love happy endings!!!
Thanks so much, we are actually expecting a new corgikid in January. Going to visit them in a few weeks. Nothing will ever replace our "Lexi", but your right, we need another corgi in our lives!
Adventures for sure...little worried about house training a dog with no legs in 4 feet of snow though LOL. Maybe I'll have to start shovelling now HA HA.
Really? Good thing you said "No!" I would have done the same thing with Paris. I am hoping to show her this summer. To a smaller shows..do you show other corgis besides Maggie?
Our main problem is biting. My husband has been bit 3 times and me once. She is very aggressive when eating or chewing on a rawhide or dog bone. She recently attacked the older dog when he came over to see what she was chewing on. I was petting her last week (no food or bone involved) and she bit me on my index finger. We spoke with the breeder and she was willing to take her back, but mainly just told us to keep her outside and toss food over the fence so she couldn't bite us. We want a pet we can bring inside and feel safe. Suggestions to break this bad behavior?
Never had to try the bitter apple but I might have to now...between sage and my shoes and 3 pups left...there vare days that are better than others:) How are you? I have been either busy or gone!
Thanks. Well valentines day was coming up and we had the labs already but Jackie wanted a small dog that was like a lap dog so I started looking on the internet and found corgis she had mentioned before that she thought corgis were cute. So jackie wound up with cooper for valentines day. Then I decided I wanted a female for breeding and also so cooper could have a friend more his size. We got both of them from Missouri but cooper came from east MO and Daisy came from west MO we wanted them to be close in age we actually got daisy a week after we got cooper. They just happen to be very close in age. As for hank and hailee I got hank first because I had always wanted a chocolate lab. he is 3 years old. and then I later decided that Hank needs a friend and mate so i got hailee a couple of months later. She is also 3 they were born days apart hank came from arkansas and hailee came from mo. thats my story
I will have pictures of all soon I just joined this site last night and also daisy is due to have pupies any time now her temp has dropped to 98.2 and has held all day but she isnt making a nest and she is still eating so im not sure what to think and comments would be great thanks.
We have had her since she was 6 weeks old. Didn't know the two breeds might not get along but now we are committed. They are getting along better and we are trying to quickly correct them when they act bad. They both want to be beside me and are jealous of each other. The biting is VERY aggressive, brought blood, sliced me open and I thought my finger was broken. She really chomped on me. Of course it wasn't broken and is healing well. She has been doing the puppy teething chewing also and we have started being more stern in correcting her when she is teething on us. My teen daughter thought it was cute when she would playfully bite and chew on her.
No, the JRT is not aggressive and has never bitten or growled at us like this. We could take his food away while he is eating and he would just look at us.
The Corgi will aggravate him and jump across his back sideways, not like they are mating. Sometimes he just looks helpless, other times he will growl and snap at her and try and get away. She will also come up behind him and sniff his bottom and he really doesn't like that. We went through a dog obedience class and have trained the Corgi to sit, lay down and wait while we put her food on the floor. She will also walk some beside me rather than jerking and pulling, but we need to work on that a lot.
Me too! He is so hyper lately! Haha! I'm trying to teach him sit, but I fear he is a little ADD. Oh well, hopefully I can catch him in a calmer state to where he will pay some attention!
Yes. The breeder told us to bop her on the nose when she bites and then suggested just leaving her in the back yard and be careful when we feed her. She also said she would take her back if we wanted and give us the money if she re-sold her which she thought she could with no problem. The dog trainer thought she was placed with us too early (6 weeks) and that has contributed to her bad manners. We really don't want to get rid of her, just figure out how to train her not to bite and not be aggressive when she eats.
The breeder was going on vacation and wanted them gone before she left. She has gotten under our skin also and we want to keep her if at all possible. She stays outside during the day but comes in during the evening and night. We Kennel her when we are not with her.
I think he weighs about 5lbs. Almost quite literally "nothing". The fact that Lucy is petite (for a small dog) just melts my heart. That is so sweet.
Adderall indeed! It's difficult to get his attention and keep it. He's doing pretty well with potty training. He'll get it when I take him in there, but pretty much does his own thing if I'm not on top of him. Silly boy. But I am sure he'll get it.
It's good to see that they both get along so well. Yay! I know I was relieved when I found out that Loki and my cat, Julie, were pals. Phew! :)
I am THRILLED to be Rafa's godmother. THRILLED that YOU are his mother. And, happily, he lives hundreds of miles away, so I won't be called upon to babysit.
I know that in your heart what you REALLY want to gift me with is a slightly used Corgi. And, by the way, Doug said the bitter spray is just a condiment to a Corgi.
Jack and Wendy, I don't know if singletons are rare in corgis but for Baby Nike's sake I think she would have enjoyed siblings. She loves to play and is extremely sociable and sometimes Ruby and the other older dogs think she's a pest.
Merry Christmas!! Toby sure has enjoyed his 1st xmas with us , he was so spoiled with alot of new squeaky toys. He is enjoying all the snow we have as well-- we have alot of corgi trails in the backyard again...He loves to run and jump and put his face in the snow, just so darn cute..... Please check out my new pics of Toby in the snow - took them yesterday... We want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas-- and Toby says he hope's that the puppies got alot of squeaky toys too....
Hi - just wanted to let you know we added a new boy to our family this week -- his name is Chevy and he will be 3 on Jan 16th , Toby and Chevy are doing wonderful together.. I had him fixed yesterday so he is sore but doing well..He is such a sweet boy and alot bigger than Toby and he even is a fluffy boy.. Such a mellow boy as well he is gonna be a wonderful addition to our home.. He is also wonderful with the cats..I have put a few pics up that I took yesterday so please to see him ..
Thank you Lucy, Jack and Wendy...my heart has grown larger since having these special dogs in my life. I really don't know why everyone doesn't have one...or three! lol Happy New Year to you and yours!
Hi Jack & Wendy, we actually live in NYC but are originally from LA. We brought Louie back to LA for Christmas and wanted to take him to Huntington Beach for the Corgi meet up, however the holidays were too hectic. We hope to bring him back to LA the next time we visit, perhaps we can meet up then since our puppy has way too much energy and loves other dogs.
Judy at Sua Mah is a very good friend of mine. She has the first dual champion (show champion and HERDING champion) male in the breed! Tim and Tom of Nebriowa are also good friends. You have some good dogs!!
Thanks for the kind welcome. Life is certainly louder with a corgi:). The only dog I had before Oberon was a sweet Aussie mix named Calliope who was quiet and Velcro with no herding interest. I had no idea what I was doing when I got my husband a corgi puppy for his 30th birthday, lol! I must say that having a smart dog is much more of a challenge than a sweet one...tho Oberon hasn't been skunked as often as poor Calliope was.
Well I addressed my question to Lucy because I figured she was the boss. Just kidding. I am trying to replace that silly orange head by my name. Any suggestions. I think even one of me would be an improvement.
