I live in the country and love animals so I have a variety of dogs(2 of my own corgis, Wynn and daughter Sage)2 rescues,a corgi mix and an Aussie) cats and free range chickens. I am lucky because I get to work close to my home and my dog(s) get to come with me...My husband and I have grown children and several beautiful grandchildren who love to visit and play with the animals. My love for Corgis started when I went to pick a female Corgi and Wynn picked me... he proceeded to walk up to me, lay his tiny little head on my foot and fall asleep.Wynn still parades around my house with one of my shoes and I always have to "look" for my shoe before I can leave...I did a Corgi rescue April (08) I felt like I wanted to help other Corgis...wow what an experience and I learned a lot. I also do corgi rescue when needed..Jackson now lives with Jennifer Markley. Calvin my Cardigan rescue lives with Joanna and Rainy my own Pembroke was rehomed and lives with Joanna's parents where she can be the "princess" and have her own people!
I have 4 Corgis.Wynn is my male Corgi that started this obsession with Corgis and he is now 9. Wynn's daughter Sage is 3 and a Therapy Inc.dog that often travels with me.Wiley my rescue is also about 8. Teddy my other rescue is about 11. Armani is my Aussie who thinks and acts like a corgi! Tank is a 4 year old Corgi mix. We decided to adopt him instead of another Corgi because he had already been in 3 homes at 1 year of age. He can run for hours in our groves and wear off his energy and is such a sweet boy. 1/2.
That HAS to be the coolest thing I've ever heard of for a dog house! You and your husband made it right? I think that if my pups had a deal like that with their own fenced yard we'd almost have a hard time getting them in (I say almost because we all know they'd rather get an occasional table scrap than have their own house).
Thanks!! Them sitting at the window together only happened once so far, but Amber managed to get a picture! Jackson is doing great with his leg since we put him on the previcoxx and limited activity. You can't even tell there is anything wrong--he hasn't limped at all or favored it in the last two weeks. We're going to keep an eye on him for the next month, and if he has problems in that time we'll go see the surgeon. In the mean time, we're going to go see Seanna's rehab doctor and do some hydrotherapy to strengthen that leg and the other leg (it's really wobbly too and a time bomb), and the rehab doctor has me looking into a brace. Honestly though, he's doing great. You'd never know it by watching him!! I'll post some new pictures hopefully later tonight.
Treibball is a new dog game kind of like soccor where the dogs push the ball into a net toscore a goal. It started in Germany and now I see that a few training places in Chicago are introducing it. My Therapy club has started doing something like that just as a dog skill. The herding breeds love it! I just started Tanner with "touch" command and he touches the ball with his nose or foot, then a child can push it back to the dog. For the physically disabled, this is much fun! The actual game, Treibball looks like it might be a team sport. I am going to see if I can take one of the dogs to an introductory class in it.
Yes... Cali is quite the "power house". She loves to play somewhat rough..tumble, wrestle, etc. I don't think she realizes how stocky... sturdy she is. I think she thinks she is a toy corgi...at the doggie park she runs at all the other dogs full speed, and suddenly veers off...I have never seen a group of dogs scatter like that before... Yikes! She is not a bully... she comes in low with her ears down in submission... but her bulk is a little intimidating to the "toy" breeds. I guess she needs other corgis her age to play with : )
Hi Jane! Just got on my site and saw that you had left me a message. We are doing great. Getting a little sick of the cold and ice though. We had to plow a path through the yard for the little ones with no legs, and even then, poor Jackson can barely make it through sometimes. You should see him run all out for the house though when it's time to come in....it's so cute!! We are holding off on therapy for now--his leg is doing great, no limping at all with the previcoxx so the vet and rehab vet thought he'd do OK without. We are just waiting to see how the other leg does. He is getting along great. Interacting a little more with the other dogs each day, and he's getting way more comfortable. He's still a little skittish with loud noises or sudden movements, but he runs straight to Amber if anything is amiss. He runs into her room (his den) with all his treats--my dad even said he's noticing how much more at ease he is--said "he knows he's home doesn't he?".... I'll try to send some more pictures soon. We don't have much since the weather has been horrible. Hope you are doing well!
Thank you for the welcome. I cannot understand why anyone would give this little girl up. I was told that the families' three year old child cried and screamed when they surrendered her. How could they do that?
Oh Jane. I don't even know where to start. I didn't realize that I kept you and Bev out of the loop. I was mostly just emailing Doug and Debbie (and Gromit). I didn't want to post negative stuff on mycorgi. But, Ricky/Rafa has regressed and has been doing major destruction inside and outside the house. He also barks whenever he's bored, which is pretty much all the time when we aren't trying to exhaust him. He has boundless energy. He exhausts all of us, including Lucy, physically and emotionally. If he weren't so very sweet, I would have had to re-home him months ago. Now wer're working on getting a professional trainer. We have no peace when he's awake. It's like he's got faulty wiring...
Aww Jane, thank you so much. It's been really hard. I've never had a corgi quite like Ricky/Rafa. He's so sweet, but he's so difficult and destructive. We will not give up on him until we try a professional behavioral trainer and if necessary, medication. Only then will I try to re-home him. And, I don't think that I have the heart to ever re-home him. I will need to be re-homed first. : (
Jane, take your time. Don't ever worry about sending a timely message or a lengthy one. Whenever you have time is just fine with me. You are someone I count as a friend always.
Ricky definitely disliked the Doberman. Really got his hackles up...and I've never seen Ricky upset (he usually is upsetting us!!) or heard him growl. This was a first. The rest of the show he watched with great interest. We have coyotes going through our property nightly. We don't see them (except once when one was in my pool @ 3am), but we see their droppings. They have made off with so many of my neighbors small dogs and cats. I have occasionally seen one walking on the street or driveway of my neighbors in the middle of the day, but that's rare. I wish they would take the raccoons, but they're probably too big. We have the best fed raccoons around here--huge!
Good luck with Sage--it just takes time & patience. Corgis are sooo willing to learn & they truly need a 'job'.
Snoopy got his Canine Good Citizen last year...My daughter 'owns' him & is working on his intermediate obedience right now. Snoops will be 9 in April ...was held in a kennel until he was abandoned at age 6. He'd never worn a collar and didn't recognize that he had a name. We've had him almost 3 years now--he'll never be as vibrant as other Corgi's but he's made huge leaps from an ultra timid-wet himself when folks approached to Mr. Lover in CCD roaming around making buddies tonight. His personality continues to expand the longer we have him.
Hi Jane- Thank you for the compliment! This is a beautiful litter and I'm so proud of them! Panda lost 1/2 of her last litter so these 8 sweet babies, all healthy and beautifully marked, are a real blessing! I enjoyed your webpage. I, too, live out in the country, a great place for raising corgis (and my quarter horses). Aren't corgis wonderful? Can't live without them! Take Care, Diana
Thanks, it is the first picture I have gotten of them together. They were "begging" at my sisters feet and I was fast enough with the camera. It is funny, I take and sell photographs all the time (it is my business) but I never can catch them together.
At shows people that know I have corgi's always say why don't you have pictures of your dogs. They don't believe me when I tell them it is easier to take a picture of a butterfly, bee, cricket or anything that moves than the wild corgi's. Besides who would buy a photo of my boys?????
Thank you so much for the card and the photo of the gang! I had a really terrible week (I have finally hit kidney failure and am being prepped for dialysis, and with work things are getting harder) so the picture of those smiling faces really cheered me up. It's now hanging on the mantle so I can see it every day. Rainy is staying with us for a few days while my parents went to Baltimore. My dad kept trying to figure out ways to take her because as he tells her, "I love you so much, my little girl." Tonight is her first night so we shall see how she does. Thanks to the gang for the cheering up!
it was gone a half hour after i took those pictures it actually was melting thats why in some of the pics there was grass seeable XD I hope it snows again it looks like it will and it was 19 degrees this morning x.x; ugh! lol
Thanks for asking Jane! The sessions have gone well. The trainer is excellent and I just wish that I made more time for practice sessions with Ricky/Rafa during the week. But, I think all will work out. Fingers crossed. ; )
Thanks for your support. It means a lot to me. I guess Ricky/Rafa is ours, for better or worse. I have to think that we were meant to be together. I love this craaaazy dog so, but, oh my...
Though my husband hates when I use this expression, I love it, and it works for me, "No good deed goes unpunished." I read with envy all the new owners who purchase, or like me purchase to rehome (what a dupe) that have perfectly behaved corgis. But, that wasn't in the plan for us. I guess, at some level, we all love our bad boys. I adore R/R, but some days grrrrrrrrr! ; )
It really is love at first sight. I'm still learning about corgies. She is wonderful. Going for training next week. She jumps a lot. I don't know that's something that corgis do. Still waiting for "everything corgi" book in the mail.
Jane, I posted about Team CorgiPals and the Walk for Animals in MN Corgis. You are more than welcome to sign up anyway. If you can't make it, it's not a big deal. :)
Jane....Did you see the notice of the red headed tri that needs a forever home. Wasn't it you that said you would like one? Actually I am laughing just what you need another corgi. I wish we could take her.
