Long Beach, NY, but have lived in CA since college.
About Me:
Married with children...all 3 grown and flown the nest.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Have had R & W Pembrokes my whole life, usually in pairs. Lucy, our now 5-yr old charmer, is a delight and keeps us laughing. We purposely picked a petite girl so that we could fly with her in the passenger cabin. We had our maiden voyage CA to NY (w. Lucy in the largest sized airline approved sherpa) and we all survived––esp. me, with the help of a bloody mary!
Fast forward a year and we re-homed a tri-male puppy who would have been in the pound if we didn't intervene. He had been left alone basically 24/7 in a backyard, and was all ribs and ears. He was a handful and the most difficult corgi I had ever owned. I don't know who was more upset by the decision to keep him, Jack, my husband, or Lucy. But all things happen for a reason. He's a wonderful, gentle and loyal corgi and we're all in love with him, including Lucy, (most of the time!), haha. RR turned 1 yo this month & surprised us all by becoming quite the looker. Lucy is 5. RR is twice her size, Everyone thinks that she's the puppy. Ya gotta love happy endings!!!
Haha, thank you so much! I just went through your pictures, and they're really good for someone who claims to have not so great photos!!! Your corgis are so precious and adorable, I love how they end up posing for the camera. (Kabob runs EVERY TIME, it could be my cell phone or my DSLR, she just knows!) But thank you for the welcome!
That's a nice mistake, a Welsh Gorky! I'm sure Corki would respond to Gorki. He seems to respond to anything said in a high pitched, happy tone anyways hahaa. I was born in LA and then my family moved to Hong Kong for a few years and now I'm now in Vancouver!
Both of your pup's are beautiful dogs, I work night shift so enjoy pictures. My girl I don't think is considered a Tri-color though as she only has a black mane in the front.
I've seen the ball bounce before as Jazmin does that...she gets all excited and just can't hold back anymore...she was taught to lay down though to wait for the ball.
Thanks for taking a look at Jazmin though, I'll tell her you said " Hi" when I get home ;)
re "@John - Your wife is beautiful, and I enjoy her postings on mycorgi. It took me a while to put the 2 of you together, but I'm a bit slow!"
??? I'm a bit slower than you are, 'cause to the best of my knowledge, my wife Lori hasn't posted anything on Mycorgi. She does do some FaceBook stuff (takawolffie). You're not confusing our lovely daughter Carina?
One thing to try with dog photos: get down at eye-level, like your pic #3 (hey, you're covered with dog hair already). And get close, really close, like pic #6 of Ricky.
The tele zoom really helps for this, and it makes your subjects more comfortable/candid because they don't have a camera stuck up their nose -- but remember that telephoto magnification requires much more light, and it magnifies hand shaking too.
Kodak's #1 Tip was "Get Close"; they say too-distant subjects is the #1 fault in amateur photography.
Don't be afraid to dive into the camera manual; these things are complicated, but fun; and it really helps to know how the thing works.
There are a lot of online tutorials that'll greatly improve your photography (mine too; after perusing these, I've decided to do some homework):
Well to be honest...I'm not sure that I chose to be a Corgi owner but Rosco, my Corgi, chose me! I just fell in love with his warm smile and personality. And when we play together he "sings" to me. He's just adorable!
Bucher had his surgery Friday and things have gone pretty good. We won't get the results back from the labs until the end of the week. This morning he woke up limping on the leg that had the IV in it. Vet says not to worry, but he acts like it really is bothering him. I guess the waiting to find out what's wrong is starting to get to us. That and my back kind of went out from lifting Bucher everywhere!! We love him and just want to make him feel good and do what's right for him. Thanks for asking!
Well I think you are doing a fine job, I gotta get a better phone camera, lately there are coming out fuzzy. Don't want my boy looking bad because of me!!!!
I always thought Emma was a little off because I never saw a dog sleep on her back with all four in the air or use a shoe as a pillow. Or lay on her belly with the back thrusters all splayed out like she was flying. But the more I see of other Corgi's it must be just a Corgi thing
Emma lies on her back and chews on her toys and frisbee while holding it in her paws, she will also run circles around the car when you ask her if she wants to go for a drive until you open the door. I guess looking at the humans that live with her proves we were meant for each other.
Hi Wendy, you are so kind. I have not lost any Corgis, but other four legged children I have, so I can lend a helping hand. That is why I joined this group. My male Corgis are 6 and 10, with a 14 year old lab. So you can see I might need a shoulder to cry on one day. But I hope not for another 90 years! lol. But 11 years ago we did loose 2 shelties.
OK, OK, I heard about Rafa Nidal on the sports news again today.
I was confused at first 'cause I thought they were talking about the notorious corgi, not the tennis player.
Depends on male or female. We are most likely getting a female so I mostly have those names figured out. I picked names like izzy laney Zoey. Names that are kinda cute and sporty like our corgis. I have found that simple names work best for training and as for males I like those unusual non human pet names like moose or trigger haha. I don't know I guess ill have something picked out when I get to meet my little one and see the personality
Hi Wendy - Do you see it on the front page for events? It's going to be at the Garden Grove barking lot off of Westminster and Deodora...Do you know where that is? It's from 12-5 on Sunday. Do you think you can do Sunscreen and a hat or you have to completely stay out of the sun? I'm not fair skinned but even so, I always try to wear sunscreen. I wish my husband would do the same but I think for me, I always do it cause I want to prevent as many wrinkles as I can, hehehe....I did tanning once and I immediately noticed the roughness and wrinkle-like texture to my skin....So hopefully it's slightlyl cloudy so you can join us....
Thank you for the compliment. :) I actually have never owned a corgi. The closest has been a half corgi half dachshund mix named Trudi. I just spend way too much time observing them on the internet. :D
Some crazy engineer invented an automatic tennis ball cannon/slingshot for dogs. The video was yanked from YouTube; he must've been selling it in violation of their rules. That's what RickiRafa needs. And a clay court so he can track in wet clay mud when it rains.
Wendy, Thanks for the warm welcome! I've had Boomer for several months now and I've only recently thought to connect with the corgi community and I'm happy I did. Your corgi's are adorable - I love that little mischievous glint in Ricky-Rafa's eyes that you can't help but love! He seems quite the charmer and Lucy is darling
I think I sent you a comment via facebook in error. I don't use facebook and don't know how to take it back which probably can't be done. Abigail Rose would know how, however, she is having her breakfast and can't help me. Your pictures are wonderful and directly describe the breed and how they "hang out". Abigail Rose is not really into other dogs, just mostly people being a therapy dog, she is mostly around hospitals and care facilities. We just joined Curves, of all things, and she will be going with me for a new experience and hopefully the exercise will help my back and her weight. She will be five this month and my husband feeds her human food when I am not looking and her weight is too much. I will have to learn to add pictures to this and send you some. We took some wonderful ones at church yesterday with a two month old, five year old, and three year old children. They just about wore Abigail Rose out running in the parking lot after everyone left. I work with the disabled community so she is with me a lot.
Awwww...gee Thanks Wendy! :) She is my dearest one...and craziest one...and I will make sure to give her a big hug when she comes in later! I think you have a couple of gorgeous Corgis there yourself! :)
Aw, thank you for the compliment (and the encouragement)! I am just finishing up my second year, interning in NYC for the summer (with DC Comics, SUPER excited!!) Law school's a lot of work, and stress, for sure, and people questioned my decision to get a puppy, but Schatzi has had such a positive effect on my life!! Even though she's a crazy corgi, she is a wonderful break from school (and provides great structure)!
Your puppies are adorable!!! I would love to have a pair someday! I think Schatzi will be small like Lucy :)
You too Wendy ~ I hope your day is sunny and filled with happiness!! I, on the other hand, will be working all weekend 3rd shift....such is my lott in life :) (I kinda like it tho) Talk to you soon!!!
BTW...I love Frank and Dino ~ they're the best! Glad you enjoy the tunes!
