This is one of the last of the 1400 pics I took on our 5-day Labor Day trip;  I'm so glad you got to see this magic place:

Just hiked Umtanum ridge with a pal.  Great dog hike.  Saw several hunters (it is road-accessible) and heard a lot of shooting in the distance. So wear safety hunter-orange colors.  I flag the dogs with day-glo magenta survey ribbon, I only trust 99% of the hunters, and a corgi can look lie a fox in tall grass.  It was cold, snow.  I'm told the tiocks can be heavy there in warmer weather.  Wide-open up on top, 3500'.

google it.   Umtanum Ridge, south of Ellensburg on SR 821.  I've heard that ticks can be heavy there at certain seasons (spring?).  There's a trailhead with a pedestrian suspension bridge.  Occasionally closed at lambing time for bighorn sheep?  Stiff uphill hike, to maybe 3500' at the microwave relay.  Road-accessible up top, so expect hunters.
