Is the sandwich also the one that is weighted down?
• Jane Christensen

The string steak is wonderful as it is cooked slow and that bacon and onion flavor soaks into the meat! mmmmmmm and the gravy is a lovely dark brown with all those flavors!
• Roger/Laurie

Thanks for the recipe. Think I will use it this weekend
• Roger/Laurie

I was looking at the pictures you have of your dogs. I never thought of my Tenby as a red-head tri but he is.
• Gail L

Thanks for the picture comments.

Hi Nancy: Love the pictures on your site....where do you do the sheep herding...that is something I have always thought would be fund to experiment with....Thanks for the information on Waller Mill Park....I only was there one time.....and they told me then that I would need a vacination record...I was not given any information other than that. I do love the York River Park...and used to frequent it often, but since I have moved a little further away I do not get there much anymore....but, I would love to do a Corgi get together sometime, as Sadie suggested.
• Marion Hebert

Nancy, I would love to go walkies with you and the corgi crew....just let me know when you would like to do that.....Also, when the weather is better, I would be interested in the sheep herding....Sammy and Merry would love the chase, I know.....it would be interesting to see if they can be trained to herd instead of just run after the sheep....they are both very well behaved....What do lessons cost? Are they weekly session and what time of day are they held? I can hardly wait to tell Sam and Merry that we might have some new adventures.....Marion
• Marion Hebert

Sturdy shoes? Do you mean like a work boot....This is just too exciting...I usually go down 10 from Hopewell to Smithfield. Maybe we could meet and travel together....Would love to meet with you before then, so if you have time some Sunday, we could meet you and go for a walk, or you and I could just have a cup of java somewhere.....Do you like Starbucks? I will not be available for the sheep herding until 13th...

Have a nice day=]
• Alicia

thank you. I like to think Peach is the most beautify corgi ever but every corgi owner thinks that about their corgi dorks ^_^
• Ace and Jen

Ya there are several im sure but my favorite is Multnomah Falls im not sure why lol =)
and Muddy Corgi is twice as easy to get the mud out then our Golden Retriever mix lol =) but i dont mind.. i just slip on a grunge shirt and pants and get to work =)
• Marion Hebert

Thanks so much for the information, Nancy.....Just let me know when....and we will do our dandest to join you....I feel a little apprehensive about this, but also very excited. I guess we start at the beginning.....Will be looking forward to hearing from you.
• RILEY, MAGGIE and Christine Kemp

Nancy...I reworded my blog, I didn't intend to imply that I could knit sweaters for others. I would be doing good to get one sweater done for Riley. Perhaps the person Sam mentioned knits for others :)
• Gina Mac/Fergie & Minnie

Michigan is a great state. Winter is not my favorite, but now that spring is here - all is well. I have a brother in Shelby Twp as well! Go figure!
Anyhew, let me know what colors you would like for the sweaters and I can make them. I need to be inspired to knit, and corgis are quite inspiring! This will be a nice, juicy project for me to tackle as I sit outiside while the kids, - with and without fur - play outside. Once completed, I only ask you throw a few dollars in the direction of your local animal shelter as far as payment is concerned.

So I'm excited! Let me know what colors and I'll get started!
Thanks - Gina
• Quincy ^,,^ & Michelle : )

Hi Nancy,
Glad to be part of your group. Thanks for the flyball tips! It is suppose to be near 80 this weekend we will be able to practice. Will let you know if we have any questions. Love the pictures of your crew at the beach. Quincy LOVES the beach!
• Michelle, Mochi, & Draper

What a beautiful group of doggies! They look like they had a blast at the beach :)

• Newfoundland STORM

Thanks for your note - my husband and I were married in the Highlands of Scotland - his heritage is also Scottish. We go back every few years and love it. I wonder if you cook with beer? I've made some bread fro our brewery spent grain, and do include some of our ales in some recipes.... Three corgis - wow! We are hoping to get a Cardi this fall to go with Chinook Hops, our 1 year old PWC.
• Newfoundland STORM

I love the Dyson, its very powerful - Chinook likes to bark at it! We're hoping to get a Cardigan this fall, so the Dyson will really be put to the test! Cheers!
• Kitty Kirwin

Your Baby's are so beautiful! Thanks tell Linus sadly Gwenie isn't allowed to date she is young only 2&half! I am a nutter over corgi's what can I say.
• Marion Hebert

Hi, Nancy. I have finally landed back at my home base. Had a great time in Minnesota with the family.......Sure do love those sparkling waters ........and boy are they cold. Are you still doing the herding? What are the chances of joining with you? Do you do it in this heat? Hope you are having a wonderful summer.
• Marion Hebert

Nancy: I know the trail you are referring too....actually have walked a small portion of it. I can walk either Sun or Mon....lets pick the one that is forecasted to be coolest.....Will give you a call Wed. evening if you are going to be home and maybe we can decide which day will be best and where to meet....Will be looking forward to talking to you. Love the photos of your dogs.
• Marion Hebert

I think that Sunday morning should be good.....I want to check the weather for that day....since I cannot take a lot of extreme heat...I would guess that sometime between 9 and 10 a.m. would be good....Should not be too hot by then......Will give you a call this evening and will know about the weather projections then...I wonder if they aren't expecting rain for the weekend...

We are excited to meet you and your wonderful corgis.... Marion
• Sadie May

Dear Miss Nancy,
AThank-you for all the compliments - I have to say that my mom (Monica) and I really enjoyed your pictures as well. What's better than one corgi? Three!!! They seem to have lots of fun together. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Sadie and Monica
• Gromit, Sparkle, and Doug

Nancy, you have a nice batch of photos there and it's fun to see some in black & white.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

Very interesting advice & coming from a very reliable source. Rafa was a rescue and already was lifting his leg when we got him at 16 wks. We just wanted to give him time to adapt to us before having the procedure. Given how easily it went, I'm glad we didn't wait any longer. He was beginning to "bother" Lucy and we felt it was time. Thanks. I'll remember this advice and pass it along. Makes sense.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

Lucy, Rafa & I are delighted to be friends. I miss NYC too. I grew up in NY and have been in S. CA for more than 30 yrs. My middle dgt. goes to school in NYC so I get to go back pretty often to visit. It's a fabulous city. I love the photos of your Corgi crew, esp. the ones by the water and the B/W pier. Where were they taken? The herding photos are also wonderful. Are your tris litter mates? They look alike.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

I had a feeling about those photos. Almost added that they have the outer banks, Prince of Tides feel. I'm very familiar with Heronsway Kennel and Anne Bowes. I have had Corgis my whole life and own most of the old hardbound books and subscribed for years to the PWCCA newsletters with all the photos of the great kennels and champions. I picked most of my breeders from those newsletters. My daughter goes to Columbia in NYC. Coincidentally, she did her undergraduate in Raleigh-Durham at Duke. I love NC too! What is your daughter studying?
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

I think I lost something in the translation. Who's Kate?

Anne Bowes is one of the renowned Corgi breeders and her Heronsway Kennel.
Ironic that I study breeders and the type of dog they produce. I love long and low Corgis (Pems) with a flashy white collar and white on their face. And now I have this 5 mo. old rescue that is so different than any corgi (from a breeder or a rescue!) than I've ever owned. Rafa is such a goofy puppy. But, he is as sweet as they come. He just makes us laugh every minute. He's long in the leg, short coat, small eyes, but he's a tri (which is what i would have gotten because i never owned one), still a pup, and male. lucy's a bit miffed since his addition to our family. but, he's a love bug. and for a rehomed pup, he clearly wasn't mistreated, just malnourished. he loves everyone and everything he meets. he's mr. personality. no manners. Lucy and I are teaching him some. All in all, he's just a wonderful puppy.
We have mycorgi.com and doug and gromit to thank for getting him. this is such a wonderful site. anytime i'm feeling a bit down, i come to this site and look at corgi photos and videos. cheers me to my soul! glad to have made friends with you. your 3 are beautiful. i've never had 3...always 2. but since my kids have flown the coop, we felt we could fly with one corgi easily (yeah, right!). also, i'm home most of the time so i didn't feel the need for another corgi for companionship. once lucy reached 4, she was becoming as lazy as me (and i'm a lazy bum!), so I was thinking she might need a companion. plus, how can you look at these corgis on mycorgi.com and feel that one is enough?
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

Signs of a great breeder. Lucy's predecessors were Roughhouse, from Blandie and Maitland Ijams. We had 3 little girls and only wanted a female corgi, but Blandie did not want to separate dylan and emily. So long story short, we took the two. But Blandie and Maitland were out in CA to judge a specialty show, and they made it a point to stop by our house, and check out our home! ya gotta love breeders like this.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

PS
Our three little girls were of the 2-legged variety.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

Corgi life is the BEST life. Rafa has been a little handful, but this past week I'm seeing signs that all my work is paying off. He's housebroken (watch, he'll make me eat my words later!). He goes out the doggy door and takes care of business in the wood shavings. He's chewing primarily on his toys and seems to be learning Lucy's boundaries. He's a delightful little charmer. If he's not following me, he's following Lucy and she's a great teacher. He's walking on the lead with the lead slack. Again, Lucy's teaching. He's yipping far less and seems totally relaxed and happy. He's a quick learner and knows how to make his needs known. We're wild about him. His namesake, rafa nadal. is playing at the US Open Tennis tonight. Since naming Rafa after him, Nadal has lost 2 tournaments. : ( But, this is the big one, and we're hoping for a win.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

What is your daughter studying?
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

I'm glad you have fond memories of tennis. Obviously, I'm a huge Rafa Nadal fan, and am really hoping that he can win this US Open and join an elite group of 6 or 7 players that have won all 4 slams. Plus Rafa has an Olympic gold. Hearing the crowd, between points, yelling "Rafa" "Rafa" helped me choose my puppy's name. They love him in England and in NY. He has almost rock star status. I just love to watch him play and he is rather easy on the eyes. ; ) I need a nutritionist! It's a great career choice. Obviously she got her interest in food from you!

Hello! I attached the map of the area with the meet-up location marked. I'm excited to see your fur-babies!

Nancy, Thank you for the warm welcome. It sounds like Tasha was quite determined! haha. It's very hard to stay mad at these doggies! I enjoyed looking at your pictures.. I am curious which dog is which? They are all so cute in there own little ways. I have many pictures and stories to tell. The life as a corgi mom is never boring!
Annie, Sniper and Cal

PS- please let us know if you're ever up our way in Northern VA!
• Annie

I had a feeling Bear was the bigger boy! It fits him. :) Who bit him? is he okay? Our boys had an aggression issues for a while and Caliber got Sniper's ears twice... Once pretty badly. Luckily, after lots of positive reinforcement training and some separation they are back to being best buds.
• Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

@Nancy. hahaha! loved your advice about corgi gardeners!
• Marion Hebert

Hi Nancy.....Sorry to not have contacted you sooner, but the summer was so hot that we just stayed at home and waited for the cooler weather. We are ready to go for some walks with other corgis now and I am also actively checking on persons who would be willing to instruct a group in sheep herding......A friend who does sheep herding is calling her friends that have taught this art and asking if they might be willing to take on a group of corgis. Sure hope this works out. Last weekend we went for a walk at a park near us with two other corgis. Merry and Sammy do love having the other dogs with them. They came home so energized from the walk in Williamsburg....I think they thought they had been on a very special outing.
• Marion Hebert

OK that is funny.........JACK RUSSELS.......where did those dog lovers ever get that idea.....I will be happy to let you know what I hear further about herding.....I am excited that we may be able to get some training closer to home. We are trying to walk around 3 miles a day.....but sometimes can't manage to get that all in.....boy do the pups ever sleep well.....I want to keep them as active as I can.....
• yvonne reames

Curious - Did your tri's come from same breader? Beautiful pet family you have.

• ding u

we live for the corgi smile ;-P
• yvonne reames

Haha! I would think the contrary: A woman who is an executive chef (aka: cooks wonderful food), obsessed with dogs means more time for man to watch sports all the time and not be asked any questions -- lol

I hear it was quite a scare with the earthquakes. I'm very glad it was more scare than damage.

I was in VA once white water rafting. Absolutely gorgeous country.

My Tri, Truman use to attempt to herd our Jack Russell, Stuart. Not pretty. They respect each others boundaries now.

If you're ever in Michigan, you are more than welcome to stop for the harvest and show a fancy dish or two.

It has been my dream to go to culinary school but it wasn't my reality. I think I'm better and growing the food.

Enjoy and beautiful family - Yvonne

• Bev Levy

So glad you guys are safe and sound. You had an earthquake and a hurricane to talk about!
• Robert and Ein Hayes

I know it is kind of last minute, but I am inviting all VA Corgis to come play on Oct. 15th at at 2pm. Meeting at Neptune statue at 31st street bordwalk VA Beach. There is available parking in the lot between 30th and 31st at the starbux parking lot for free 2 hours. Or available all day parking at any of the parking lots, normally 10 dollars. • Robert and Ein Hayes

That sounds like fun! I am planing a corgi meet-up in this winter. Maybe in December when the parking is free and the weather is good. I will let you know! Thanks for the reply and join Corgis of Virginia Beach for any updates on Beach walks.
