My husband and I are dog lovers from way back. We met each other while volunteering at our local humane society.

Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Wynne and Will are red headed tri Pembroke Welsh Corgis. They are half sister and brother from Wyndtree kennel in Iowa.
They visit nursing homes, dabble in agility for fun, run with the big dogs in the park, and love to attend car shows.
yes, I am trying to gather Iowa corgis together. I'm afraid it's going to be hard going. Most of the Iowans have not been active here for quite some time. No matter what, I am sure to be at the 2012 Illinois picnic!!!
The table idea sounds great! The one nursing home we visit is large with 2 stories and we go back and forth and to so many units that the wagon works wonderful. Sage has no problem walking but after about 45 people and even more lifts...the wagon works better as she is just the right height and alot less stress on my back. I had wanted to find a smaller wagon but couldn't:( Oh well, if I ever don't need it I can give to the grandchildren.
Thanks for your comment on my new pup, Sparkle. I got a kick out of hearing that your boy Will is a son of Sandyshire's the Phantom. He would be a half brother to my first two Corgis, Watson & Tinsel. Their sister is Mistletoe who my friends Joe and Liz just lost last week at the age of 13.
Your Will definitely has the Phantom face that I've seen when I've searched for "kinfolk" around the Internet. In some of your photos of him that smile of his is just like looking at my old pal Watson.
So thanks to Phantom's busy "retirement job" we all have lots of relatives around the country. Great fun!
Lisa, Thanks for the inside scoop on how you got Will. Lovely little story. Years ago I traded a couple of e-mails with Pat Sandy-Smith as I thought it would be nice to let her know how much I loved the offspring of her and Art's pal "Tommy."
Of the four Phantom kids in the litter my W&T came from, one sister, Holly, is still alive. I just this week was able to make contact with her owner and will make arrangements to visit them in here in AZ. Holley is 13 now and last time I saw her had the unmistakable Phantom look of W&T, Mistletoe, and your Will.
Like you I get a big kick out of these "family connections," to me it's part of the Corgi magic. Sandyshire's the Phantom sired 29 AKC champions so there are certainly dozens and dozens of other kinfolk of our friends out there. When I've run across pictures of Phantom off-spring on the 'net I usually save them. I've added one of Will to the batch.
Lisa, I decided to write Pat Sandy-Smith, Phantom's owner, and just say hi again after a long time and send her some pics of my Corgi gang. She wrote back the following about Tommie: " So nice to hear from you and to receive the pictures. Yes, those tris do have Tommie's stamp on them. He was a great dog - and such fun. He's play "ball" until he fell over - nonstop. Loved the water. We live on a lake and he'd go out on our pontoon with us - and when we'd anchor we'd play ball in the water. Great swimmer. He'd sit on the pontoon and shove the ball to me in the water, which meant that I was the retreiver now. I'd put it back on the boat and he'd push it off again for me to get. He sired 40 Champions, but most of all he was a great companion. We miss him. Pat"
I would really like to, but I'm not sure how realistic it is :( I start my classes again that week as in addition to I'm scheduled to work every Saturday and I already had to ask off two Saturdays that month for weddings (one that I didn't even get off). So I am going to try and make it, but it's not likely. If there is another picnic or meet up (although we are already working into winter, crazy!) I will definitely try and make it a priority to go!
We have heard so much about that RV park ( only 2 hours away) plus they have Corgis and we have never been, maybe this fall. I was telling some other mycorgi people we should plan a MyCorgi trip there. Those that don't have an RV can rent cabins like you did.
We spend most of the winter in the RV around Florida and stay at parks near Key West and Tampa. Most parks are OK with our boys. Some parks don't allow certain breeds---corgis are never on that list.
We are going to Michigan (Berrien Springs) next month for 10 days. We have a good RV book that has 99% of all the parks in the US. Chepstow loves traveling and meeting new people. He prances around the parks as the goodwill ambassador of corgis. Tenby is more of a homebody and prefers to stay inside most of the time.
We have to get there soon. Might need to call ahead and see what "party" is happening when! If you ever plan to go back let us know, would love to have our RHT, Tenby (and Chepstow) meet yours.
Lisa, Thanks for your notes on my neglected page! George and I are planning on coming to the WI picnic, but I'm pretty sad to report I'm going to have to pass on your IL picnic due to family coming in from out of town. I really hope you get a grand turnout and can't wait to catch up with you and your darlings in September!!
Hey there! That is such a bummer! I did not hear about it! I would love to get her together with some other Corgi's I am hoping to make the picnic, it is a far hike though. I would definitely attend Corgi Con 2013!! I am so happy to see you on here as well!
Yep, I brought the Black Bean Salad also. :) Lately I've been making a Greek Pasta Salad for pot lucks that seems to be pretty popular. So I can make either dish.
Hi Lisa, Olympic + Corgi lovers killed the internet, we were one of the first non - UK site with the video and was not able to handle the sudden surge of traffic. Sorry for the interruption.
thanks lisa. i was so looking forward to the picnic. but, there will be more in the future. i talked to her this morning for a minute and she told me they were going to scan her brain. but she did rest good thru the night. have fun at the picnic
It was so great to see you and your precious two (plus hubby) on Saturday. I wanted to say goodbye, but George started getting tired and cranky, and before he picked a fight, I thought we'd better get out of there. :P
I really hope the IL picnic is a bouncing success--with such a gathering of cute corginess, how could it not be?!
(My mom just bought her train tickets to come see me that weekend, so it's official i won't be able to make it.)
Thanks so much for being such a great, faithful corgi friend. I wish you a great year until we meet again!
Well, Lisa, I realized it was under 100° late in the afternoon so I had no excuse not to take them out for a little fun in the backyard and of course snap some pictures. Got me out of the house too, it's been a long summer indoors!
Shandy would have LOVED to come to the Freeport picnic. We had such a good time in Wisconsin with all the Corgi's. Unfortunatly we have another commitment that day and won't be able to make it:(
Thanks for letting me know! I was just thinking about it, but given the weather and that I am bogged down with grad work I didn't know if I would make it! I appreciate you thinking about me!!
Thanks for letting me know. I hopped on the event page earlier today before I saw your comment because I figured the weather was going to mess with our plans. *le sigh* Oh well, hopefully next year.
Hi - I AM the corgi mom with the corgi scarf. I just now saw your message to me about it. I do have the original fox pattern on my computer and a few pix, and I should have the yarn labels lying around. I can pull all that together for you, but I can't tell you exactly how I did it. There was a lot of doing and un-doing, thinking and experimenting. That's what made it fun, especially since it's something I can't really wear anywhere. I'll work on collecting all that info and send it on.
If I still tormented the banjo, I would try to sound like Pete Seeger. Here's links to John Prine playing "Dear Abby", "Paradise", and "Late John Garfield Blues":
Oh, no, I forgot all about this! So sorry. I did go on a really big search around Xmas time for the yarn from this, because some one "cleaned up" my stuff, but claimed to have never seen any of it.
This is the pattern that inspired the Corgi scarf.
I modified it as I went along. Of course there was no tail, except for a little tiny nub added to the end. I made the feet from rectangles, folded them into little hollow paw-shaped tubes, and used duplicate stitch for the paw prints. A hair clip from the craft store made the jaw clip to bite onto the body of the corgi. I made it long enough to wrap twice to be short enough to wear with my shelter T-shirt, or once for a "stole."
Yarns: Vanilla Lion Brand Cotton-Ease. Another similar cotton yarn, light peach color, same color as my corgis fur. The 2nd and 3rd yarn are missing their labels, but one is an eyelash yarn, an orangish bronze color, the other an eyelash that is silvery white. These were used on the same #15 needle with the peach body color. I also used a white eyelash with the Vanilla cotton for the bunny butt. The feet were Vanilla cotton alone.
I do have some pictures. If you send me your email address, I can send you those. I struggled (in a good way) over how to do the feet and the bunny butt, as well as shaping the head. I'm not thrilled with my corgi's ears, but I'm happy with the rest. I've worn it at the shelter and received many compliments, though no one knew what it was :)
In fact, if someone could explain to me how to post pictures in a post, I could post the silly thing.
Hi, I really did not know what to leave either so just picked a number that sounded reasonable that did not make my husband choke too much :) I also included wording that our two kids (adults) can make the choice between rescue or homes with them or someone they know. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and realize that depending on when my husband and I pass that our kids may not be able to committ to having our animals too. I tried to use a sum that our estate could support that would be enough for average old age costs. Just guessing though. Good luck in your desicion making! Bev
I will be! I was thinking about it the other day and I'm glad to hear its the 18 and not 19 becuase I am a teacher and we have graduation the 19! I will see you there!!
Yes, the Faery Tails Corgi Rescue Event Corgis and want to be corgis and their humans are welcome.
The picnic event is our yearly fundraiser that allows us to visit with old friends and meet new ones too as we work together to continue the FTCR mission of all pets being "safe at home". We especially enjoy seeing Faery Tails alum and we always welcome well-behaved corgis and friends. All dogs need to be on a NON-flexi leash.
Hi Lisa, I'm so sorry I meant to get back to you, we are in the process of moving... it's not to Tuscola, haha, not sure who that couple was. We're actually staying in a town up here but anyways, I would love to recieve the keychain if you still have it. If not, no worries. I will send the address in a private message. I hope to make it next year, by that time I will have a 6 month old, so we will see how that goes! Thank you for taking the photos also, they came out great, and there are a lot of them.
Lisa - I am devastated. No, I didn't we had it all set I told her the exact boy I wanted, I ordered dog tags got out my puppy gate and little puppy bowls then I contacted her to let her know I was leaving (2.5 hr drive). And she said, "Hurry, they are going fast" -I asked if mine was still there and she said, "I'm not sure.. I don't know which one you wanted exatcly" - He was gone. She still had two left, but I was so made and completely heartbroken because I had my heart set on that boy I didn't want to go to her. I began searching again and I found another beautiful guy in Springfield and the woman didn't contact me back for a day or so then when she did I called her back and she said a man called her 10 min ago and put a deposit down. I am so emotional right now because I had my heart set - I keep searching and searching. Do you know of ANYONE who has an available male puppy right now? I got screwed out of my deposit so I really don't want to spend too much upfront. The upkeep cost is fine but $800 for just the dog with losing money already I can't do. Help. :(
Thanks! I found their sight as well. I also found another woman who has a litter due in 2 weeks. I was hoping for sooner than later so I could use the summer, but I will take what I can get. I think I'm on a good path now! I appreciate it! Thanks Lisa
Thanks! I think we will go. It would be really nice for my Corgi to be around her own kind since she is only around other dogs who do not understand her. I'm pretty sure we will be going!
Hi Lisa, We just passed our CGC and TDI tests this weekend so will look for a place to vist this winter. Sonny also loves doing tricks (paw, high five, roll over, freeze, wave etc) and at the baseball games there is usuall a group of about 8 kids (all armed with treats) shouting out commands. He smiles the whole time doing tricks for treats...it's really cute especially because it's so chaotic...the kids have trouble waiting their turn and they all shout out at the same time.
The chincilla belongs to my son's friend. He was chincilla sitting while his friend was out of town for 3 weeks.
Lisa, The people won't remember you, your husband or the car but they will come looking for the corgis at all shows in the future!! At least you know good dogs as well as good cars.
It was great meeting you, too. Unlike our Corgis, I hate winter. Just cannot stand the cold anymore now that I am getting older. Our new Corgi boy is Fortin's Thorian Barks Like Norse God of Thunder. Thor for short ....... Kallie is Fortin's Kalypso Miss Wigglebottom When She Walks. They have different fathers, but have the same mother. Yet Kallie is a smaller corgi and Thor is, as you noticed, a pretty good-sized Corgi.
We will keep our eyes sharp in watching for the next CorgiCon dates and we will be there, for sure. Stay warm ..................
Looking forward to CorgiCon, I will be there with the two kids in tow. This will be Kallie's second but Thor's first, I think I'll also try to make the Normal, IL one so maybe I'll see you there.
Looking forward to coming out for corgi con! This time it will be our whole family. Last time I made it out for the picnic it was just me and Izzie. This was a month before my wedding. Lots has happened. Now we have a little boy named Dechlan. (Human not corgi lol)
Thanks! You're little babies look just adorable as well :) Sadie and I both can't wait for Corgi Con, May can't get here soon enough! This will hopefully be our first of many Corgi Cons!
There's no way we would miss it! Sadie had a blast last year, I would get an ear full if she didn't go again this year :) Thanks so much for putting this together, it's so much fun!
Figures that the weather outlook is grim. Here's hoping the weather forecasts are lying! And thanks for the welcome - looking forward to being a part of the community!

Hi Lisa,
It was great meeting you, too.

There's no way we would miss it! Sadie had a blast last year, I would get an ear full if she didn't go again this year :) Thanks so much for putting this together, it's so much fun!
