I can see Tess in your Tenby - same smile.  Yep - Tess has the crazy gene - leads to mad running in circles and jumping on my head when I'm sleeping.
  • Jennie Cooper

Hi - Yes my move is to Albemarle.  Looks like there will be another corgi in the neighborhood!
  • Mark Segers

Thanks! Your boys are adorable. Our Mickey has had two "sisters" in his life so I think he would not enjoy being an only corgi. I had three for a few years which was bit of a hand full since the elder gentleman, Rude did not really like the other two.
  • Jane Christensen

Yes, I would definetly give him 1 benadryl, this will help the itching and make him tired.

You could also take a lukewarm cloth and hold it gently on each eye but a seperate one for each eye. Good luck and let me know how he is doing. Poor baby!

  • Jane Christensen

I am soooo sorry, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I just got home from work and that's why I didn't awnser earlier. I always give my dogs the gel caps or tabs...I used to know the dosage for the liquid. Please keep me updated! I work again in the am so I may not get back to you right away.

    Good luck!

  • Jane Christensen

How are you and the doggies??????
  • Jason

Hi! It looks like a few people, myself included, are wondering about the corgi picnic this year, and you seemed to know what was going on last year... Any idea on what the plans are? Thanks!
  • Heather Black

Roger/Laurie -  I think that sounds like a great option!  If our yard was fenced, I would offer, but it is not.  It sounds like you have a great set-up for a possible corgi meet-up.  Where are you all located?  I'd be happy to work with you to coordinate planning.  Heopfully we can get this off the ground and plan something for late summer/early fall?  Maybe even wait for September when it might be a little cooler outside?
  • Bev Levy

Hope Tenby is feeling better. Your story with the treats and pills reminded me of several years ago Sparty was on several medications that I carefully buried in treats for him. Until the day that I dropped a pill and he caught it and swallowed it! Now if I have to medicate I just toss the pill to him. Much easier having a real "pig" around.
  • Heather Black

    Hey Roger/Laurie -

I wanted to circle back about the possibility of co-hosting a corgi gathering/picnic late summer or fall.  I really would like to help make this happen.  We have only had our corgi for a little over a year, so we are new to the world of corgis, but we enjoyed the corgi picnic last year and would like to be part of one again this year. If you all have a good set-up and are willing to host it, I would be more than willing to help plan and publicize.  Would it be easier to swap email addresses and/or phon numbers to try to talk and coordinate ideas?  My email is heatherbl@bellsouth.net.  I hope to hear from you soon!

  • Lani & Chewie Harrison

Thanks! I need all of the luck I can get!

  • Edward and Gemima

Hi Chepstow, I was sorry to hear that Tenby was not feeling well, I hope he is better now. I have been having a great summer out at the Lake. Edward has been spending so much time in the water that his paws started to itch...so my mom has to dry them real good and put some ointment on them every time we go out there which has been often. I only daintily go in for a swim when I need to cool down whereas Ed runs up and down the beach all day chasing dragonflies and bugs. I get tired just watching him.  I hope your summer is going good. lovingly, Gem
  • Shannon Hoffman

You have some great looking dogs!!!! Thanks for the greeting!!

I will not be able to make it to the SP Picnic but I will attend the one in Wake Forest near me. I would love to come to both but my other hobby is mule riding and I will be camping and riding the Uwharrie National Forest that weekend!!!!  Hope we gave good weather for both!!! Thanks! Shannon

  • Heather Black

    Hey Laurie -

I agree.  We probably just planned this too close to the big NC Corgi Picnic.  I bet there will be more interest in the spring.

Hope you all have a wonderful fall and winter!  Talk to you after the new year!

    Heather

Where in North Carolina? I was born in High Point and grew up in Asheboro, North Carolina. Small world. Your corgis are beautiful.

  • Ally Singleton

I know where Southern Pines & Pinehurst is been through many times growing up. I have had a tri and red and whites too. My Boomer was a rescue and I have had him 8 1/2 years.  Boomer is turning into a ham when it comes to pictures these days. Getting ready for his book to come out this spring. Having to take a lot of pictures for website, & book stuff. I miss North Carolina

  • Jane Christensen

    Hi Laurie,

Glad you found Steve on MyCorgi...I was going to ask him if he lived anywhere's near you. Too bad I didn't have time to drive Reggie there as we could have finally met:)

  • Jane Christensen

We have been busy too, my husband just had 3 months of cancer treatment(it's gone:), 17 pups(1st litters in over 18 months) and I broke my finger and had surgery...hope the 2nd half of the year is much quieter!

Your pics always bring a smile to my face...hope you're enjoying the RV!

  • Jane Christensen

Glad that you're ok...as for my finger I can "thank" Livvy and Bella...we had a female hormone thing going on, Bella was out by Livvy's goats and Livvy snuck out, I knew immediatly it was a bad situation but neither would come to me. So I broke up a battle had each one by their collar and when I got them separated and got in the house I looked at my hand and knew it was bad...no bites but I have a plate and 6 screws in the one finger portion and never knew how hard it is to not use one hand...it will take quite awhile for it to mend...darn dogs...but I love them and that's part of having unfixed females.

  • Bev Levy

Yes the RV park sounds cool. Don't know if we could commit to that length trip since my husband is not retired but would love to do it.

  • Melissa and Franklin!

You already have the Calming treats don't you? I can't remember for sure if you had them or if it was somebody else....They sell them at places like Petco and they are in a light blue and cream colored package. They seemed to help Kirby. Or you can get Rescue Remedy. Benadryl/Diphenhydramine works well too on some dogs, you can give up to 1 mg per pound every 8-12 hours so that might do good to make him drowsy. It makes Frank crazy though and I've never tried it with Kirby. Those are all I can think of off the top of my head for over-the-counter stuff. A lot of Kirby's sedatives/anxiety meds are prescription, Alprazolam works the best by far for Franklin but Ace works best for Kirby, maybe your vet can give you a supply to keep on hand for traveling?

  • Gail And Percy

Thank you - love the Welsh names.
  • Gail And Percy

He maybe has some royal blood -you never know? Haven't been to Bristol but been to Oban many times -it's really pretty although usually just passing through on the way to the isles.
  • Gail And Percy

Yes- we haven't has much of a summer this year in Scotland at all. I think I'd prefer that to the weather parts of America have had - have you had the heatwave where you are- how are the doggies coping? Percy likes the snow better than heat but even he is really fed up with all the rain we have had this summer.
  • Gail And Percy

The Uk has had so many of these torrential downpours this summer- we got caught in one on scout camp a few weeks back - we have a river at the bottom of the back garden that Percy would normally swim in but he has had to be on the lead because it is so fast flowing and bursting the banks at bits he would just get carried away.has been or wettest April, May and June ever and has been wet every day here since the start of June.
  • LA Stewart

I am curious where you go with the RV in the pictures.  My husband and I just went to Rutherfordton, NC and rented an RV at 4 Paws Kingdom.  The place is set up for dogs with 8 dog parks on the campsite.  The owners have 2 corgis.  It was a great vacation.  Have you heard of the place?

    http://www.4pawskingdom.com/

  • LA Stewart

They do have cabins to rent which are tiny.  My husband and I rented an RV from them.  They are set up with a large deck and a couple of them have small fenced in yards.

We liked it too because no children are allowed.  We have gone places before where the kids will not leave our dogs alone.  Our Corgis go to dog parks to play with other dogs, not to be held by kids that won't let go.  The no children policy takes care of that problem.

On the weekends they have social events.  Special breakfasts, potlucks, dog training, craft classes, cooking classes, etc.  That is all listed on their events page and it varies every weekend.  The week after we left they were having Corgi-ritaville.  (Like Margaritaville)  The regulars were decorating their RVs with lights and displays.  There was going to be a big party that weekend, but alas we had to get back to work.

Our dogs loved running everyday with other dogs and hanging out by the pond.  We also tried the agility equipment and just let them explore all the areas.  I wish it was not so far for us because we would go there for weekends and such, but it is 10 1/2 hours of pure driving time for us.  It could be a few year before we return.

Hope you get a chance to visit their campground.  It is great to go places where your dogs are welcome and not just tolerated.

Your Corgi's are just beautiful !  Our 10 1/2 year old Corgi Winston just passed away two weeks ago.  Needless to say we're grieving terribly and I'm spending a lot of time online looking at Corgi sites and all night long I dream about Corgi's !   : )  Ours began to gain weight a couple of years ago despite a controlled diet and exercise.  We lowered his food intake just a little bit and he began to lose weight very slowly.  Unfortunately he developed diabetes and for a period of time we didn't know he had it because he was a happy healthy acting dog and his blood work was normal.   By the time we found out he had diabetes it had done some damage and a problem developed that he was not able to overcome even though he had very good specialized veterinary care.  I find myself asking other Corgi owners how much their dogs weigh because in a lot of photos other people's dogs look the same size as ours.   I can't help being concerned that other people's Corgis will develop diabetes and not know it.  Checking a dog's glucose levels isn't really a normal part of a dog check up, but because of our experience I recommend it.

  • Wilson Waddlepants and Joyce

I love the way you call Tenby a free spirited wild child.  Do you mind if I ask why he takes pain medication ?

  • James Cox

We plan on it. Ours are so rude we will probably be banned from future events, but we plan on making this one!
  • Wilson Waddlepants and Joyce

I'm glad you mentioned that you replied on the Rv'ing Corgis page because I hadn't seen it.

It's wonderful that Tenby is doing so well.   How in the world did you ever find out about him in the first place ? He's a blessed little Corgi to have been found by you !

It won't be long and we'll have a new Corgi, and if we get a girl I'll be sure to let you know so Tenby and Chepstow will have a heads up about meeting a potential girlfriend in their camping travels.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Cut and pasted from the RV'ing Corgi's page)

    Hi Joyce

We would love to come for a visit. We usually come to Nashville in June for the CMA festival.   When we were in Michigan last month the boys found a cute corgi girlfriend at the RV park.  We just love finding corgi's on our travels.  I am sure it is hard for you without Winston, my thoughts are with you.

You asked about our free spirited wild child........yes that is Tenby. If you look at my 1st Aug 9th post you will see one reason why he is our "crazy tri".  Tenby is a rescue and lived in a small kennel his first 6 months.  When we got him (at 6 months) he had no muscle mass and was afraid of his own shadow.

At 18 month a developed a limp. After xrays from the orthopedic vet they decided that due to his poor nutrition and in activity his shoulders didn't develop correctly and he would probably have to be put down by the time he was 3.

He was on 3 pain pills a day for a few years, but now he is just on 1 and is 6 years old.  Our vet isn't sure what caused the stabilization, but who cares!!!

  • Wilson Waddlepants and Joyce

All I can say, is Tenby and Chepstow are two blessed little Corgis ! Enjoy your fall art shows !

  • mara

Thanks.  And we love it here; it's easy to forget we're in LA when you're surrounded by trees and craftsman houses.  Oh, and Corgis; there are a lot of Corgis in this little town!

  • mara

There you go!  I grew up in Northridge, and was graduated from Granada HIlls High in 1969.  So we're contemporaries.  We came to So. Pas. for the schools in 1996, fleeing LA Unified schools, and live on Garfield.  When we came here, we were warned to avoid buying in the 710 path, and we took that advice, although the 710 seemed like a dead issue at the time.  I keep saying that if they really want to plow another freeway through this area, they should  put it straight up Garfield, since thats the border between So Pas and San Marino, and it wouldn't cut So Pas in half.  Of course, San Marino would never have stood for having a freeway on its edge, so it's an easy offer for me to make!  Meanwhile, I love the pictures of your kids.  They are adorable.

  • mara

We got William as a runaway about 10 years ago.  The rescue organization said he was about 1 1/2 years old based on dental, but we suspected he was younger.  His tongue was too long to fit in his mouth, so he drooled incessantly.  He was very poorly socialized, but at least housebroken.  He eventually grew into his tongue (mostly) and has learned basic social skills, but I swear, the dog is ADHD.  He was a real challenge to train, and never got past basic commands.  He's very bright, really wants to please, and you can see he understands we expect him to do something specific.  But he clearly struggles desperately to keep anything in his head for more than about 15 seconds.  Rescue dogs have their issues, but they are definitely worth the effort.

  • mara

Funny; I think of puppies as "so much work."  I'm just happy to give these poor abused and rejected guys a home where they can feel loved, and can blossom.  And boy, do they, even if the heaviest baggage never goes away completely.

  • Pamela

Thank you for welcome. Your dogs are cute.

  • Christine

It sounds like fun! Unfortunately we just took our last trip and are winterizing this weekend:( The Farmer's Almanac has predicted an unusually cold winter starting in Nov for the Carolinas! Nothing like seeing a Corgi romp in the snow!

  • Elizabeth Throneberry

Hello Laurie and roger! I'm Elizabeth I had you as my corgi gift exchange. I sent out your gift to FL and it should be there Monday so if you not there that early you can let your daughter know to be expecting it :) wanted to make sure you got it. Merry christmas!
  • Laura and Tommy Jefferson

oh Tommy is goofy without a DOUBT.  I didn't realize that was a tri trait!!! Your boys are beautiful by the way!

Hope you guys are having a great time in Florida! I'd sure love to be there right now instead of in Cleveland ... although our weather has been good so far ... fingers crossed!! :)

  • Laura and Tommy Jefferson

Laurie, thank you so much for the awesome cards!! (we posted a photo in the secret santa discussion) You do beautiful work!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!! :)

  • Wilson Waddlepants and Joyce

Wilson is doing great !  His soft puppy fur is gone.  I told someone today that he looks like a full grown Corgi that was shot him with a miniaturizing gun !  He is so cute!   It's still pretty cold here on the Cumberland Plateau, but the days are getting a little warmer.   I can't wait for spring.  Thanks for staying in touch.  Stay warm !  Joyce and Wilson

  • Orville V

Hi! Thank you! Happy to be part of the community =)

  • Suzy Sowder

Our "bratty sweetheart" is almost 3.  We got him from a breeder in Eden NC. (We live in Fairfax VA).  He looks amazingly like your Tenby!  His head was almost all black when we got him at 11 weeks old....reddened over time.  He's very smart...always knows when it's time to go to the bus stop or when the dishwasher is being loaded.  He' s lovable (wants to cuddle on the couch when it's Netflix movie time) but also very stubborn and definately has some bad habits.  He's very social with other dogs (has lots of neighborhood buddies and likes to get together with them) but I'm not sure he's mastered the social graces when he meets new dogs... barks at them loudly to try to say hello...they don't always want to say hello back!  Some of his bad habits...sigh... making a mess of his water and throwing his food bowl when he's hungry, stealing food off the edge of the table from unsuspecting kids,  stealing things to initiate a fun chase, lightly nipping at our thighs when he really wants something (yeah, this is a bad one we have to work on!).  He's definately better behaved when he gets the attention/stimulation he needs.  I'm trying to take him with me more when I go out.   He's definately all Corgi... highly highly motivated by food, won't come when he's called unless there's something in it for him, pushes limits!  At the same time, he wants to be part of everything social in the household...my husband will wrestle with my 10yo son and Tenby comes running to get in on the action.  When kids play basketball, he's the ref.

He's also very big!  I have him on a diet (he's 48 lbs), aiming to get to low 40s...he's just big. (Luckily he's very fond of carrots).

He has definately mellowed with age some and I'm hoping for more mellowing, but I know some of his bad habits, we just need to work on ourselves.  He has just trouble controlling his "enthusiam" for life. :) Has your Tenby mellowed with age?  I love the name Chepstow!

  • Suzy Sowder

Hi Laurie.. you've probably seen this toy,but I'll post just in case.  I bought one of these for my kids this past Xmas.. it's almost like a custom stuffed animal for our Tenby's!  Even has a bit of black mixed in the red head.
